Idol Defense Force Hummingbird is a Light Novel written by Hitoshi Yoshioka and published by Fujimi Shobo in imprint Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. Two volumes of the light novel were published, volume one in 1993 and volume two in 1994.

A four-episode OVA was later adapted from the light novels produced by Toho Company, Ltd., Toshiba EMI and Youmex. The OVA series culminated in four episodes that covered the plot of the Light Novels and were released between September 1st, 1993 and December 1st, 1995.

Both incarnations of the work follow the five Toreishi sisters, Kanna, Yayoi, Satsuki, Uzuki and Mina, teenage idol singers who are collectively known as The Hummingbirds. They are also of am ace fighter pilot squadron in the Japanese military, the military is owned and operated by the large entertainment and music corporations in this alternate timeline. The plot follows the girls between saving the world from from major overseas threats, and onstage appearances in their singing careers.
