Fridge Brilliance

  • The animation makes the characters (with the possible exception of Dragon) seem like sophisticated marionettes, and fantasy adventure stories are popular subjects for puppet shows.

Fridge Horror

  • Dragon is about 300 years old, and may live to be a thousand. He jokes about calling humans "short-lives", but that doesn't change the fact that he will outlive Jane and her family and friends for generations over. Maybe the whole kingdom, for that matter -- the story takes place around 800 CE, so Dragon might well live to see the Norman Conquest, the wars between England, Scotland, and Wales, the Wars of the Roses, and maybe even the beginnings of the age of colonization and the Renaissance, if we're generous with the 'thousand'.
