Jeeves and Wooster (TV series)/Fanfic Recs

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for

These are recommendations made by tropers for Jeeves and Wooster fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. After a few samples, you will be able to note the interests of the tropers recommending them, and judge whether you might be also interested in a certain 'fic.

Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.[1] Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual[2] or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Reviews of fics are encouraged, but if you choose to write one, please make it substantive, and give specific details about what you liked / disliked in the fic. If you want to give a fic a thumbs-up without writing a full review, you can add your troper handle to the Recommendations Line. Please refrain from posting "Comments" or Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Recommendations Template

Title of the Fanfic by Author OR Fic Trope Page, by Author (Link) Recommended by: Troper Name

  • Synopsis: What's the story about? Give here a brief summary of the plot. It would be also useful to point out in what moment of the series the story takes place. If it's a Gen Fic but it has some romantic elements, note here the characters involved too.
  • Pairing(s): If it's a Shipping Fic, list here the pairings that feature in the fic (warn here if it's het, male slash or female slash). If it's a Gen Fic, remove this line. To tell the difference between the two, notice if the focus of the fic is on a romantic relationship or if it focuses on the other aspects of the story. In case of doubt, classify the story according to the genres it's been tagged: the Romance tag for Shipping, absence of that tag for Gen Fic.
  • Tags: If any are known. This would be things like WAFF, Lemon, Dark Fic, any known Crossovers etc.

Green Ice by Adina

  • Recommended by: Paul A
  • Synopsis: Lord Attenbury's emeralds have gone missing while he was staying with Aunt Dahlia, and for once Bertie had nothing to do with it. Fortunately, Bertie's old Oxford chum "Flim" Wimsey is on hand, and proves to have a knack for the detecting business; Bertie also shows hitherto-unsuspected depths. Starts as a typically fluffy Wooster story, but turns over some unexpected rocks; the narration is all Bertie, but the villains are more in Lord Peter's line, as is the undercurrent flowing from the aftereffects of the War.
  • Warnings: See above about "aftereffects of the War", some of which get described in detail and language not usual for Wodehouse. Also, Alternate Character Interpretation of a canon character which is not going to be everybody's cup of tea.

Shipping Fics

Stories whose primary focus is on romantic or sexual relationships between the cast.

Jeeves and The Club for Inverts by triedunture

  • Recommended by Goodwrench
  • Pairings: Bertie/Jeeves
  • Synopsis: Bertie goes to a rather rummy sort of club, the last place one would expect to find one's brilliant valet. What follows is more rummy stuff, lots of drinking, much too much smoking, and some other unmentionable things.
  • Warnings: Slashy. Very, Very slashy, in fact. NC-17.
  • Comments: Despite the unpromising title, this is a simply killer piece of writing. The author has written many excellent Bertie/Jeeves stories besides this one.

Sorting Out The Dance Card by Thirstyrobot.

  • Recommended by Marksthespot
  • Pairings: Jeeves/Wooster
  • Summary: An overheard conversation changes everything. Histories, mysteries, romance, and a dive or two into the soup.
  • Warnings: Mentions of past dubcon. R or NC-17 overall.
  • Comments: A quick and absorbing read. Very good use of secondary and tertiary characters. I have this saved to my harddrive and have read it multiple times.

Pace the Meadows with a Heavy Tread by Lisztful

  • Recommended by: Amethystasheryn
  • Pairings: Jeeves/Wooster.
  • Summary: Bertie has a rather rummy realization, but there's hardly time to consider it, what with all the dratted relations who've decided to invade the old Wooster homestead, not to mention Honoria Glossop. Only Jeeves could possibly save this day.
  • Warnings: Slash, but nothing worse than a kiss.
  • Comments: A story that does a fantastic job of capturing Bertie's unique style of narration, this would be a great read with or without the romantic element. Bertie's realisation that he loves Jeeves is understated, but not forgotten: He has other things and people to deal with, but when all's sorted at the end of the day, the romance gets its turn. Jeeves and Bertie are both flawlessly in character while working out their feelings for one another, and Lisztful gracefully preserves both their voices and their dignity throughout the encounter. Very worth a read.

Time and Again by darkeyedseer

  • Tags: hurt/comfort
  • Pairings: Jeeves/Wooster.
  • Summary: After a catastrophic bicycle ride in the rain, Bertie has a painful realization about his family, friends and possibly Jeeves.
  • Warnings: very mild slash (declarations of love), planned suicide, WWI remembrances, copious amounts of angst
  • Comments: If you've ever thought Bertie deserves a hug for all the abuse he has to cope with, this is your fic. The parts about the war are a bit of a stretch for a Wodehousian narrative, but the sheer emotional intensity of the story and the ever-present humour manage to keep it fresh and enjoyable. Definitely worth a read.
