Jesus (manga)

Jesus is a 1990's shounen manga, that later came to include a 2000-2004 crossover with Yami no Aegis, and a 2009-present crossover with Until Death Do Us Part, as well as its own sequel.

Jesus is a world renowned assassin, feared by many a Mook and wanted by almost every government organization out there. One day, he gets the bright idea to steal one ton of heroin from a Yakuza group, fake his own death, skip town and then profit from the stolen drugs. However, he soon hits a snag in his plan, and things go from bad to worse. His fake visa isn’t ready for him to leave the country yet, the body double they used is a high school history teacher, and to top it all off, the drugs get sealed inside a reinforced blackboard, and hung up in the very school his body double worked at.

And so begins the tale of how Jesus became an assassin-turned-history teacher. The manga, crossovers and sequel all follow Jesus as he adapts to a "normal" life, all whilst keeping his real identity a secret, and protecting numerous innocents from all of the enemies after him.

Not to be confused with... well... y'know... the religious figure.

Tropes used in Jesus (manga) include:

Anti-Hero: Jesus, most definitely. Sure, he may do bad things (to even worse people) for the greater good, but he’s still not willing to go out of his way to help people.
- Proven when he raids the Shibayamagumi HQ, and sees them dragging a drugged Mizutani into a car. He has a few moments where he tries to justify saving her, and insists to himself he's not doing it to be a nice guy.
  - Also, earlier when the same Yakuza group launched a driver-less logging truck at the school, his first thought was to protect the heroin housed inside, not the students and faculty.
Appropriated Appellation: Jesus earned his moniker due to that name supposedly being invoked by his targets & cannon fodder right before they die.
Badass: Jesus in general. So badass, that when he saved Mizutani he was able to wrench a guy out of an open car window, while sitting on the roof of the speeding car.
Bad Guy Bar: The Nest Of Geese is Jesus’s hang out in the original manga, when he's not teaching. It's later revealed to be a central hub for all sorts of mercenaries and guns-for-hire.
Badass Longcoat: Jesus wears one when he's "on the job".
Cool Shades: Jesus sports a pair of these on a mission in Brazil.
Cool Old Guy: Kashihara, the owner of Nest of Geese.
Crossover: Jesus shows up later in Until Death Do Us Part and Yami no Aegis, and in the sequel characters from those two series also show up.
Improvised Weapon: At one point, Jesus shoots out the tires on a truck with screws.
Jerkass: Good god, Togawa. He didn't start out one as it is implied he was a friendly art student in the past before a nasty incident made him unable to paint. Also a Jerk with a Heart of Gold since Togawa would protect people he truly cares about.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Jesus shows a bit of this, when he’s even nice enough to take Mizutani home after he saves her.
- He also does his best to keep his high school class alive on their overseas trip gone bad, and later makes sure they get back to Japan safely.
- Let's not forget how Jesus tried to make sure Togawa, who he considers to be his younger self, does not get involved in the underworld.
- Togawa, like Jesus is also this. He's a delinquent, but he's never been shown actually bullying anyone. His status as one is more because he fights a lot.
Not So Different: Jesus admits he was exactly like Togawa when he was young. Possibly counts as Foreshadowing of Togawa's potential future self, especially with Jesus as a teacher.
Revolvers Are Just Better: Jesus’s main weapon is a .357 Colt Python.
Took a Level in Badass: Thanks to Training from Hell, Jesus' class goes from normal high school kids to skilled mercs, due to circumstances.
Training from Hell: Jesus puts his class through this to impart to them the skills necessary to survive a war-torn country and make it back to Japan.
Viewer Gender Confusion: Misaki Kaoru, full stop.
Yakuza: Jesus has had dealings with them.
