Kantai Collection/Fanfic Recs
Proof that the remaining 10% is worth sinking for.
These are recommendations made by Tropers for Kantai Collection Fan Fics, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in a certain 'fic, based on who recommended it.
Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found below. Make sure you sign your recommendation! No-name recommendations may be deleted at other tropers' leisure. Do warn when a fanfic includes sexual situations.[1] Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business. Likewise, warn if it may head into non-canon territory.
Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

- Synopsis: What's the story about? Give here a brief summary of the plot. It would be also useful to point out in what moment of the series the story takes place. If it's a Gen Fic but it has some romantic elements, note here the characters involved too.
- Pairing(s): If it's a Shipping Fic, list here the pairings that feature in the fic (warn here if it's het, male slash or female slash). If it's a Gen Fic, remove this line. To tell the difference between the two, notice if the focus of the fic is on a romantic relationship or if it focuses on the other aspects of the story. In case of doubt, classify the story according to the genres it's been tagged: the Romance tag for Shipping, absence of that tag for Gen Fic.
- Tags: If any are known. This would be things like WAFF, Lemon, Dark Fic, any Trigger Warnings, etc. This is also where you would put character names with Characterization Tags if doing so would be equally indicative. ("uber!Harry" for Harry Potter, for instance.)

- Synopsis: Abyssal forces have a stranglehold on mankind, and it's taking everything the combined naval and kanmusu forces of the world can to just to break even. USS New Jersey finds herself thrust into the middle of this world, but how much difference can one battleship do? Are you really waiting for an answer? The answer is a LOT. Seriously. She's a frigging BATTLESHIP.
- Pairing(s): USS New Jersey x Prof. Arthur Crowning (male human OC), USS Washington x Yeoman Sarah Gale (female human OC), which also has some chemistry with Kirishima, and there is also some attraction between New Jersey and Musashi.

- Comments: This is what I (NotaBene) wanted the KanColle anime to be. The Abyssals are serious adversaries who have exacted a heavy toll on the world (a world that we actually get to see!), fleet girls from navies besides the IJN get to take center stage (not that the Japanese fleet gets neglected), and while there is adorable slice-of-life, there's also time devoted to less adorable (but no less important) matters, like how personified ships deal with life in a world where everything has changed since they were afloat.
Things Involving Shipgirls That Are No Longer Allowed and More Things Involving Shipgirls That Are No Longer Allowed by CV12Hornet

- Synopsis: It all started with one stupid decision, and spiraled out...
- Comments: Like Skippy's List but with ship girls and a little backstory for each rule. Daily bite-sized chunks of goofy slice-of-life. Be warned that there are a lot of Shout-Outs, and some of the humor will be missed if you don't have an encyclopedic memory of WWII naval history (for example, why William D. Porter starts out as a screw-up) - but the story is actually better if you don't recognize the pop-culture quotes that were copied into the text.
Anchors Aweigh by Xcalated

- Synopsis: The Americans have finally developed their own Kanmusu. In the war against the Abyssals, the Japanese receive help from the Americans as they send their Kanmusu to aid them in the Pacific. With the history between the ships of IJN origin and those of the USN, how will these girls act with each other as they live and hang around together?
- Comments: Mostly 'slice-of-life' featuring American shipgirls interacting with their adversaries (and making friends). Some of their early interactions with the Japanese fleet are a little jarring (e.g. Enterprise takes a little too much joy in tweaking Zuikaku, almost seeming mean-spirited), but things smooth out. Also noteworthy: Kongou the friendship coach, teaching American escort shipgirls the meaning of tsundere and dispensing advice on how to get closer to their desired sempais.
Indestructible Spirit by SkywalkerT-65

- Synopsis: Born and raised in Britain, HMS Indestructible served a worthy career under the flag of the Royal Navy. She had expected to rest in peace, and be remembered for her service alone. She had most certainly not expected to be summoned in a human body, in the country that had abandoned her...abandoned the battlecruiser Kongou...
- Comments: An AU in which the construction of IJN Kongou ran so late that the Japanese government basically washed their hands of her, and the Royal Navy completed her construction and 'adopted' her into service as HMS Indestructible. Mostly slice-of-life (in which Hiei and her sisters discover that 'Indy' is not Kongou...), and also some interesting speculation on the Abyssals' origins and point of view.

- Synopsis: "In the end, it isn't hope that called out to me. Not the desire for someone to save them, to give them mercy. I failed at that once, and would never be able to answer that call. It was vengeance. The simple human need to make sure that whoever hurt you, whoever hurt those you love, will never be able to do so again. To ensure that even should you die, that your enemies would too." (Crossover with Halo.)
- Comments: UNSC Leviathan is destroyed by the Covenant. Meanwhile (or possibly in a parallel timeline?), in the early 21st century, the Abyssals attack a summoning chamber mid-operation, and her spirit is brought to life as a not-quite-Abyssal. Still early days but looking promising.

- Synopsis: A portal opens, connecting two realities in which humanity is in a desperate struggle for survival. Co-authored/edited by Cpl.Leon and SCM7. (Crossover with Halo.)
- Comments: Yamato gets poofed into the Halo universe/future by Forerunner meddling. She makes the closest thing possible to an Odd Couple with the Master Chief.
Harry And The Shipgirls, by Harry Leferts et al. on Sufficient Velocity. (Crossover with Harry Potter.)

- Synopsis: "Various Harry Potter/KanColle snippets and discussion were filling up the idea thread, so they can go here. They won't be in any particular order though. And without further ado..."
- Pairing(s): Lightweight ship teasing between Harry and several ships and other characters (including, but by no means limited to, Shinano, Hibiki/Verniy, and Hermione Granger who is a natural-born reincarnation of HMS Hermione), various admirals and ships, and Haruna x Rose Potter, the spirit of a Potter family tea set.
- Comments: Eight-year-old Harry Potter gets adopted by Nagato, flagship of the Japanese fleet. Even though shipgirls are magical phenomena themselves, they soon discover that the world of magic is much bigger than any of them ever knew. Harry's upbringing on a Japanese naval base, outside of the notoriously isolationist Wizarding Britain (or "traditional" Japanese magical society, for that matter), leads all sorts of creatures and powers to come crawling out of the woodwork, and his education at Hogwarts will leave its marks on both wizarding and muggle society.
