Mikey Simon
The main character of the show. An enthusiastic but naive and egotistical 19-year-old American actor from Cleveland, Ohio, who wins a contest to fly to Japan and is hired to play the hero, Kappa Mikey, on the anime Lily Mu.
- Acquired Situational Narcissism - He reinvents his image as "Bad Boy Mikey", so he won't have to face the fate of winding up in a wimpy kiddy show. He's pretty narcissistic to begin with.

- Betty and Veronica - The Archie for Mitsuki's Betty and Lily's Veronica.

- Breakout Character: In-universe, he becomes the most popular character among the Japanese Audience, which is why he was made into the main character of Lilymu.
- Catch Phrase - "W'ever" and "chill'ax".
- Character Title - Averted, in that the show is named after Mikey's SHOW name on LilyMu.
- Cleveland Rocks - It's his hometown.
- Comedic Hero - "I never wear a belt!"

- Non-Standard Character Design - Mikey is drawn in an "American" cartoon style, with four fingers and black dots for eyes. Just about everyone else follows anime art conventions. This is taken further as Mikey is unable to perform typical anime visual gags like Super-Deformed shock.

- Whatever - Actually, "w'ever". First appears in The Good, The Bad, And The Mikey, where he uses it as a by-product of remodeling his image as a bad boy. It stays, and he uses it so often it becomes his Catch Phrase, and the other characters start using it as well.

The Cell-like bad guy on-camera, but off-camera, he's just a large, pointy-eared, lovable, oafish moron, and Mikey's best pal.

Lily
The tempermental diva used to be the star of LilyMu and the biggest one in Japan, until Mikey dropped in and stole her thunder, which she totally hates him for.

Mitsuki
The other lead female of the show, Mitsuki is shy, polite, and totally has the hots for Mikey!

- Boobs of Steel - Being a children's show, they're never emphasized, but there they are.

- Gasshole - In Live LilyMu. But she didn't enjoy it, and it wasn't her fault.

- My Friends and Zoidberg - Mitsuki often gets the short end of the stick when trying to earn the other characters' respect. The other characters often forget her name.

- Non-Singing Voice - Mitsuki was the only character who's talking voice actor had to be replaced when singing.

Guano

- Everything's Better With Guanos
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff - Invoked in-universe, the American version of Lilymu was macekred to turn Guano into the main character.
- Getting Guano Past The Radar - His name is Spanish for 'bat manure'.
- Interspecies Romance - Guano falls in love with a human teenage girl who saw some of Lily Mu. She admitted that she always thought he was a puppet.
- Parody - of Pikachu from Pokémon
- Sidekick - his role on LilyMu
- Talking Animal - Though it's very probable that he's a guy in a suit, Guano's costume is VERY expressive.
- The Un-Reveal - Despite confirmation that he is in fact wearing a costume, we never see him without it.
- Later episodes give credibility to the possibility the costume isn't exactly a costume at all, or that his body underneath the outfit is exactly the same as the suit, tail and all.
- Worthless Foreign Degree - Guano has a Running Gag wherein he always fears getting fired because otherwise he'd have to go back to doing such-and-such random jobs like shampoo commercials, mining, or dancing in a kickline. Granted, Guano seems to be of the same ethnicity as his friends. He did go to film school, however.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes? - Has a phobia for basically anything you can think of, and beyond.

- This troper recalls one reporter that was an unholy fusion between Yubaba and Joan Rivers.

- Humongous Mecha - They are sentient actors on Lily Mu, but aren't seen that often off-camera.
- One episode features Gonard facing off the Lily Mu Team with a pair of granny robots.

- Large Ham - Most of the antagonists... all usually voiced by Sean Schemmel.
- Last-Episode New Character - Lawrence, a parody of Clarence from [dead link] It's a Wonderful Life, in the Season One finale, is Mikey's Bishonen guardian angel. The sound engineers in the Season Two finale may count.
- Leitmotif - various side characters, including Socky and Ozu's twin brother Brozu, who both have hip-hop tunes play whenever they're on-screen.
- Name McAdjective - Richie McMillions.
- Shallow Parody - Characters resemble famous anime stars, but the parody pretty much stops at appearances.
