Kingdom Hearts III

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Kingdom Hearts III is a 2019 Video Game, the final installment of the Xehanort Saga in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, but not the entire series as a whole.

In this game, Sora, Donald and Goofy are off on another adventure to reclaim Sora's lost Power of Waking, which will be essential to him in the final battle against Master Xehanort and his Thirteen Seekers of darkness.

The game was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 19th, 2019 to mixed reviews. Most gamers found the game fun to play, but the plot however, in their opinion, left much to be desired.

Tropes used in Kingdom Hearts III include:
  • Acting for Two: Sora and Vanitas and Roxas and Ventus as usual.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Ventus saves Aqua from Vanitas in a repeat of a scene from Birth by Sleep, Yen Sid saves the heroes from the Heartless and Rxoas appears out of nowhere to save Xemnas from killing Xion.
  • Hate Sink: Played straight and then brilliantly subverted in the ending. Master Xehanort's actions towards the Guardians of Light, regardless of whether he’s doing it for curiosity or balance, are unreasonably cruel and despicable, and the series as of this point loves milking every opportunity it can to make you hate him even more while making you root for Sora and the others, so you want to see Master Xehanort eventually getting his ass whopped for the final battle. This is crucial for the final twist, where before Master Xehanort dies for good, we discover his true motives, which paints his actions and personality, horrible as they may be, in a much more tragic light.
  • Rule of Seven: The seven Princesses of Heart and the seven guardians of light who will protect them from Xehanort's thirteen Seekers of Darkness.
  • Smart People Play Chess: In the opening, a young Xehanort and Eraqus are playing a chess-like game; and if you take a close look at the pieces, they have symbols corresponding to different characters — ones whom they've yet to meet at that point in time.
  • Twist Ending: At the end, Master Xehanort reveals his true motives. It was thought by everybody (even the fans) that he tried to create a world where light and darkness are balanced, but he actually wanted to create a world that was pure and blank with himself as ruler.
