Origin theories

Kirby is a Bizarro Eldritch Abomination

Meaning he's a Neutral Good Lovecraftian monster. Kirby is all-consuming, omnipotent (doesn't Kirby always beat the boss that had defeated entire worlds?), but omni-benevolent. Kirby appeals to our aesthetic sense in an innocent way. What does that sound like? Let's face it, Kirby is the good twin to Hastur.

  • Kirby is chaotic good. Consider Kirby's reaction to forgetting he ate his cake - go beat up King Dedede. This is why Meta Knight opposes Kirby; he's lawful good and despises Kirby's chaotic nature.
    • If you look at the sprite sheet, [dead link] a Waddle Dee took the cake. Waddle Dees are Dedede's minions. Technically, he DID take it.
      • The fact that a Waddle Dee took it doesn't prove that it was on Dedede's orders. Not all of them work for him, and even if that one did, it might have taken the cake for itself. Regardless of who ate the cake, Kirby's reaction to its disappearance was a little extreme.
    • Dedede would be Mischevious Good; Meta Knight flips out at said mischief, while Kirby incorrectly perceives it as evil. Unfortunately, Meta Knight is a bit overzealous, as seen in his attempted coup of Dream Land.
    • Kirby's powers are rare in Dream Land, but not completely exclusive to him. Kirby just seems like an exceptional resident of popstar, the Eleventh Hour Super Powers coming to him in his time of need are usually why he beats the great big thing of evil every game.

That cute pink puffball you think you see? That's your mind doing you a favor.

If you beheld Kirby's true form, you would spend the rest of your life in a state of catatonic euphoria.

Kirby is a rejected form of Majin Buu.

Both are pink and copy powers through eating.

  • This fanfiction proposes a similar idea.

Kirby is a Digimon.

In Kirby's Dream Land 3, some levels have Kirby look-alikes called Batamon; we'll assume that's the name for Kirby's species. Now note that all Digimon have a name with the suffix "-mon". Kirby's enemy-eating ability, then, is an offshoot of the standard Digimon ability to grow stronger by absorbing the data of defeated opponents combined with the ability to change modes easily.

  • Works well with the 2010 series, Batamon could be a type of Digimon who developed independently of Earth and have no level. Kirby is forcing a Xros when he swallows enemies.

Kirby is the light-powered counterpart of Dark Matter/Zero in pocket format

Dark Matter symbolizes everything evil, planned, and unhappy. Kirby was created from happiness, love, peace, and cuteness. You could see him as light incarnate, while Dark Matter is darkness incarnate. Although Kirby is just a child and too cute for words, he is a good fighter and even has super powers; this is meant to show that The Force of pure Goodness is beautiful and strong at the same time.

Also, isn't it funny how he's always there when Dark Matter is doing something evil?

Example: When Ripple Star was invaded, Ribbon coincidentally bumped into Kirby for no obvious reason. She could have landed on Rock star and ended up wandering the desert on her search for the shards forever; then Kirby would never have met her and would have kept the crystal shard, thinking it would have made a nice souvenir. But for some reason, Ribbon did meet him, the only one who can stop Dark Matter, and that happened though she came from another planet!

Destiny intends for Kirby to balance out every single imbalance Dark Matter causes. He will always be there whenever evil is involved, whether he wants to or not.

Kirby is Lavos.

After years of eating, the horrific black hole in his stomach becomes an all-consuming force, corrupting Kirby's body and soul beyond recognition. After destroying and consuming Pop Star, he drifts through space consuming whatever he can find before landing on earth; this leaves Crono and friends to deal with him before he wakes up and eats everything.

    • It should be mentioned that in Chrono Trigger mythology, Lavos, in addition to ending the world... empowers dreams.
  • Look at Shiver Star's icon on the map. Remember what happened after Lavos destroyed the world?

Kirby is an evil SOB.

He kills and eats the souls of innocent civilians if they happen to get in his way and commits genocidal rampages all the time just for some cake or something.

  • If you go far enough ahead, and then double back, the enemies are back where they were before, none the worse for wear.


Kirby is immune to Metroids.

Proven in Kirby's Dream Land 3, where Samus Aran herself cameos near the end of the particular stage.


Kirby was created by the Chozo

Though improbable by out-of-universe means, it makes quite a lot sense in-universe.

  • There is no Word of God for the origin of Kirby’s species. The closest is a SSBB trophy that says that he’s a citizen of Dream Land. That says nothing of where he came from.
  • Samus appears in KDL 3, along with Metroids. This connects their universes. (In fact, Nintendo seems to love connecting its universes.)
  • The Chozo are not unknown for genetic experiments attempting to create an ultimate being (“Metroid“ means “Ultimate Warrior” in the Chozo language). He is still a bit overly destructive, and naïve enough to crack Pop Star in half for the sake of a game.
    • To be fair, the other competitors are just as guilty of destruction in said game.
  • Furthermore, Kirby seems to be the ultimate being in his world. When Meta Knight summoned "the ultimate warrior" he got Galacta Knight. As far as battles have proved: Galacta Knight < Meta Knight < Kirby. Alternatively; Kirby himself is Galacta Knight. Other WMGs detail that. That nicely connects to the "Ultiamate Warrior" motif.
  • This could also explain abilities like Sword, Yo-yo, Cupid, and Stone (when he becomes statues) - because the Chozo are supposedly this all-knowing race, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that they could know of Link (Sword, maybe Bomb), Ness (Yo-yo), and Pit (possibly Cupid). Stone is particularly odd - he even breaks the fourth wall with that one as of Return to Dream Land. How could Kirby know of all those things? Does he get to choose what statue he becomes, or is it truly random? Either way, Darwin doesn't account for Kirby's spontaneously appearing Link hat.
  • Kirby is immune to Metroids. Which suck out life force. Does Kirby not have a life force?
    • Otherwise, perhaps he was created after the Metroids, and the Chozo had since discovered how to infuse that immunity within him.
    • The following quote found on a wiki, no idea what game it comes from: "The creature took on the host's… appearance, abilities, everything. It sucks everything dry.” (Shortened for relevance) …Sound kind of familiar? Perhaps the Chozo wanted to modify the general traits of the X Parasite to use for good, which they ultimately decided to dump at Pop Star for who knows why.
  • If this really is so, then Kirby helped with the extinction of a species much like his own (even if he did only kill 6). Remember - the Metroids were created with good intentions. But they got a bad rep (Not like their diet helped much. And Kirby's isn't much better.) and were annihilated by Samus. If Kirby were to get a similar reputation, then he better start avoiding Samus like the plague. Because he cold be next.
    • Also note that places/planets that Samus visits are prone to being destroyed. So if Kirby gets out of control, then it could also be bye-bye Pop Star.

All of Kirby's species are about as strong as him, and can copy abilities too.

The catch being that they are so unbelievably lazy that Kirby is a downright athlete in comparison. Sure, they're all capable of taking down that Eldritch Abomination, but It's Up to You.


Kirby's species

Meta Knight, Kirby, and Galacta Knight are the same species, and they represent the stages of life for this species.

"The Void" for shorthand purposes. (Kirby is his name, not his species). Each one of these are different stages in its life time. Kirby is a young child, so his powers are unpredictable. While The Void grow up they start to get comfortable with a form and master it, or become a jack-of-all-trades and keep their improvised ability. Meta Knight represents Teenage / Young Adult who decides to take up the sword form. He is stronger then Kirby's Sword Ability. As The Void get older, their skills naturally improve. Galacta Knight represents being an older adult considerably stronger then Meta Knight.

When The Void choose a form, they can lend their skills to an improvising Void. As seen in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Kirby may be just be hitting puberty because he can borrow Meta Knight's skills.

Kirby's species is somehow related to Potemayo and Guchuko's

  • They all belong to the "cute spherical critters" phylum, but they have diverged because of the different evolutionary pressures of their respective universes.

Found out Kirby's species at last!

All the Kirby and Meta Knight species can do naturally is inhale.

And instead have to train themselves in mastering a certain ability. Meta Knight obviously chose Sword, while Kirby learned Copy somewhere between Dream Land and Adventure, and improved on it in Superstar. This explains why Kirby can't use the Sword ability as effectively as Meta Knight, even when he copies it. This may apply to other species, having the pathetic Waddle Dees and Waddle Doos carrying parasols, even if the latter can use Beam naturally. Also, when copying Copy itself, you gain an improved Copy.

    • This + Milky Way Wishes = at least two more theories. In said game, you can't copy anything and have to use Essences Deluxe. If you find one of those, you can use it whenever you want. My theories based on this are as follows: Any Kirby/Batamon/Enderman/Whatever can get an ability by pedestals or Essences Deluxe. Meta Knight uses a Sword Essence Deluxe and got it to Master. Master ability is what a mastered ability is called. MWW takes place when Kirby chose an ability.

Kirby's digestive system ends at his stomach.

Everything he eats is converted into pure energy. This is why he always dances after every level. This is also the reason that a lollipop makes him so hyperactive.

Kirby is inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and the inspiration of God of War

Related to above topics. If Nightmare, Dark Matter, and Dark Nebula are Eldritch Abominations (and thus godly), and they all were defeated by Kirby, then Kirby was slaying beings worse then the Greek Pantheon before Kratos got doublecrossed. If Kirby killed forces of pure cosmic evil, gains abilities by absorbing matter, and uses stars as weapons, then that means he is the manifestation of the power on the Universe in pure, sentient form. Talk about Alternate Series Interpretation.

  • So Kirby WOULD kick Kratos's ass. And Kirby's a nicer guy, too.

Kirby is the lost child of an evil race of aliens.

To correspond to some of the "Kirby is evil" theories above. The evil aliens somehow lost Kirby on their travels through the depth of spaces, and he was raised by some Dreamlanders to be nice and cuddly. It will get interesting if his real parents ever show up and try to get him back on their side...

Kirby is the child of Dedede.

They share more or less the same abilities, and Dedede is unusually affectionate and defensive towards Kirby at times. Perhaps Kirbies are some larval form of whatever Dedede is?

  • I heard Dedede learned how to inhale because he was jealous of Kirby.
  • He might be half of Kirby's species.

Kirby is set in a universe where penguins have larval forms

If the above WMG is true, and given that Dedede is a penguin, then Kirby and other Batamon must be the larval form of the Kirby-verse's penguins.

Kirby is the same species as Pac-Man

Plot/Setting

Dream Land is Pop Star's equivalent of a war-torn third-world country

You've got an illegitimate monarchy ruled by King Dedede. Kirby is a biological weapon running rampant, killing people for their food or eating them whole. Meta-Knight's formed his own cadre of questionably-noble military separatists and has a flying warship capable of subjugating entire provinces by itself. The very trees and animals are sapient and hostile to all other forms of life. There's at least a half-dozen instances where nightmarish monsters and space aliens have invaded. Civilians are forced to defend their homes with whatever they have available: swords, mallets, magic wands, improvised explosives, yo-yos, umbrellas... It's a sugar-frosted warzone. The rest of the planet must think Dream Land is like Mordor.

The Squeaks were suicidal.

  • Suicide by Kirby. They should have known what would happen if they screwed with Kirby when it comes to food. Everyone in Dream Land knows, after Kirby's Dream Land. Fortunately, Kirby wasn't quite blind enough with rage to commit murder.

Dedede wants to get everyone in shape.

In Kirby's Dream Land, he's putting the residents of Dream Land on a diet. He almost always fights Kirby in a boxing ring. In games with the Hammer ability, he tries to get Kirby to use it. In the cancelled GC Kirby, he takes away Kirby's Warp Star to get him to walk around more.

  • This is likely related to his past attempts at fending off Eldritch Abominations- he wants the inhabitants of Dream Land to be in good enough shape that he, Kirby, and Meta-Knight aren't the only defenders. His trying to get Kirby into shape is much like Meta Knight's main objective - help him be a better Star Warrior.

Meta Knight attempted to conquer Dream Land because there was a massive famine at the time.

In the beginning of Meta Knight's Revenge, MK briefly states his intention to change Dream Land's wasteful, lazy lifestyle. Poor administration and lack of work ethic finally took their toll on the fields, which were too degraded to bear crops anymore. The innocent citizens were starving, while the aristocrats were living comfortably on what they scraped away from everyone else. All the enemies fighting Kirby were part of the coups, on their way to the palace to join the main siege. Meta Knight was attempting to take over so he could prevent the death of thousands. His initial plan failed, so he went to a backup plan of working for the administration, funneling the ill taxed food to the needing public behind the scenes, which is why he followed the orders of Dedede for a brief period of time.

    • We can assume that Kirby has stopped the famine since then in the several endings where he gives the Dream Land residents food, but then again, you'd think that Kirby would be able to find another cake in Squeak Squad... Unless, of course, there's none left.
      • And even if there is; if he gets his back, then he can find another cake after, and then have two cakes.
    • Doesn't hold up as well in the Japanese version, where his motivation is to cleanse Dreamland's corruption, whatever that means.

Dream Land is Hell, and the characters in it are the 7 deadly sins.

  • Kirby - Gluttony, obviously
  • Meta Knight - Pride/Vanity
  • King Dedede - Greed
  • Lololo and Lalala - Lust
  • Marx - Envy
  • Nightmare - Wrath
  • Whispy Woods - Sloth

Popstar is a chaos world from Warhammer 40,000

Kirby is a greater daemon and champion of Slaanesh, decadent and self-indulgent yet protecting Popstar against all outside threats. Meta-Knight is a greater daemon of Khorne, a war-hungry conqueror. Marx is Tzeentch's servant, a power-hungry schemer. Dark Matter, an infectious being who fights by amongst other things bleeding on the enemy, is of course Nurgle's attempt at taking over the system of Popstar.

Kirby's Adventure is a training mission set up by Meta Knight.

Many times, in the game and the show, Kirby is implied to be Meta Knight's apprentice. So, that leaves the possibility that Meta Knight set up the entire game without Kirby knowing. However, he didn't expect Nightmare to show up; when that happened, the "training mission" turned into a life-or-death situation.

Meta Knight only attacked Dream Land to save its inhabitants.

During the Revenge of Meta Knight, he invades Dream Land just so everyone can stop being lazy. That doesn't seem like a good reason to use an army and a giant warship to take over by force. In reality, Meta Knight knew of the upcoming threat of Marx, the ultimate villain in Kirby Super Star. He wanted to take over Dream Land so he could teach everyone to stop being lazy and learn to defend themselves in case Kirby couldn't defeat Marx.

  • If this were true, then what would happen if Marx did win?

Drawcia and Yin Yarn are just the beginning.

Both enemies are very much connected to each other. Megalomaniacs from strange art dimensions? Check. Block Kirby's usual abilities, but at the risk of giving him new ones? Check. Dwell in strange alternate worlds resembling certain art aesthetics? Check. Decked out in wizard hats and billowing capes? Check. Feature in games endemic to certain revolutionary consoles, utilizing their unique properties to their fullest? Check. What's more, they're not the last. Sometime in the future, Kirby may have to fight a wizard wielding a massive fountain pen; or a sinister sorceror armed with a pair of scissors and a lot of paper. Villains from every corner of the art-media multiverse will come try their best against Kirby, until finally, their master arrives... Craft, Lord of Art.

Grand Unifying Guesses

Dark Matter is the/a Major Villain in all Nintendo Games.

In Kirby's Super Star, the Great Cave Offensive, Kirby comes across items from various Nintendo worlds. For example, he finds Captain Falcon's Helmet, the Screw Attack, A Mister Saturn, and a piece of the Triforce. This could mean that the Kirby World is connected to all of these worlds, and most likely ALL Nintendo worlds.

And why shouldn't it be? It's Dream Land after all; it's literally the land of dreams. And Nightmares. It's not impossible that Dream Land is the world that connects all other Nintendo worlds together. What one character could dream about could easily be what is actually happening in another world. Say a kid, Ness perhaps, dreams that he's some kind of legendary hero who has to claim a legendary sword to destroy a monstrous evil, while in the Zelda world, Link dreams he has a loving family and friends and none of the typical nightmare fuel that he has to deal with on a daily basis.

Now, granted, the above example is a little wonky; after all, Ness is a legendary hero who has to destroy a monstrous evil, but who's to say he didn't have that dream before his adventure began? And in many cases Link does have a family, but there are a few instances where they seem a tad absent.

Moving back to the point, Dark Matter is the Source of ALL evils in the world of Nintendo, taking on different forms depending on the universe that it ends up inhabiting, in order to make the best use of its powers and sow whatever havoc and evil that it can before it is destroyed, sealed, or temporarily removed, whatever the case may be. Some Probable Dark Matter Suspects from across the universes:

Metroid: Phazon

Mario: Darkstar, Shadow Queen, Dimentio

  • Ultimate evil of Mario? Really? Bowser would like a word with you.

Pokemon: Missingno

Mother Series: Giygas

Kirby: Marx, Zero, Nightmare

Zelda: Majora. Vaati also applies after he gets his powers (presumably after a deal with Dark Matter). It also helps that he ends up looking a lot like Dark Matter in both of his One-Winged Angel forms and remains looking like that in his further appearances.

  • You forgot Dark Link. If he could make Dark Meta Knight, couldn't he make Dark LINK??

So... On the Whole, He leans towards Eldritch Abominations. Fun Times.

  • Eh, not Dimentio. Dimentio is probably affiliated with him, though.
    • Dark Matter would be closer to the Chaos Heart, not Dimentio.

Kirby is the Strongest Character in Nintendo Canon

Basically related to all those Kirby is an Eldritch Abomination turned good guesses up there, but it's less Turned Good as it is Born Good. Kirby is Dark Matters' equal and opposite number (Miracle Bright Matter?), and as such works against him whenever he pops up.

Now, as to Kirby being an idiot if he's the equal and opposite? He's not so much idiotic as he is extremely childish, with all the good and bad that can entail.

  • If he is the strongest character, then let's see him take on Giygas.

Dark Matter is the very source of all Eldritch Abominations in Video Games

In addition to traveling through space, it can travel through dimensions, taking on various forms and turning into all of these guys.


Zero Two is Zee Tee.

Well, Zee Tee is, phonetically, ZT, which can stand for Zero Two, which seems to be a more canonical spelling than Zero Squared, even though the NUMBER is written as Zero Squared. Zero Two is likely what happens when you Evert to X-9.


Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright are the origins of Lunatone and Solrock.

Is there any better explanation?

  • Specifically, Solrock and Lunatone are fragments of Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright rained down onto Dream Land when they fought in Milky Way Wishes. This makes Pop Star the Pokémon world in the distant past.
  • And Dittos are evolutions of Kirby?

Kirby is related to the Beast Planet.

It's hinted in the anime that Kirby may contain a black hole or alternate dimension inside of him, and everything he inhales goes there. This sounds familiar...

Galacta Knight - The Final Boss of Meta Knight's story mode in KSSU - is an Angel from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

  • First, he has a blatant core: his body.
  • Second, if you look closely, you can see a cross on his shield, and his visor is a cross. Keeping in mind the symbolism factor...
  • Third, NOVA summoned the "most powerful warrior in the galaxy". As we all know, each of the Angels is "The Juggernaut", among other things.
  • Therefore, Galacta Knight must be a member of the Kirby-verse's race of Angels. The difference between them and NGE's? The Kirby-verse beat them.

The planned Wii Kirby game that became Kirby's Return to Dream Land would have been a remake of/sequel to Kirby Super Star

There's the upgraded cutscenes in Kirby Super Star Ultra, probably originally planned for the Wii version. We did get our Kirby game after all!

Meta Knight is a nobody.

This Meta Knight, however, is well-intentioned; he is the one you see trying to help the player. The Meta Knight you see doing evil things is actually his Heartless.

  • You got the right evidence to the wrong theory. This evidence proves Meta Knight is actually Riku, and Kirby is Sora.

Zero is a Reaper.

He assumes control of Dark Matter as its benefactor, seemingly coming from Dark Space which itself possesses various inhabitants and life forms from Pop Star and "augments" them to suit its needs (as in the case of King Dedede). This is proven in Kirby 64, where they processed living animals in the Shiver Star factory to create Miracle Matter (who also acts as another form of Dark Matter, and consequently Zero), similar to how the Collectors were harvesting humans to create a Human-Reaper. The Heart Rod and Power Crystal are seen as a threat to them, as they are the only artifacts that can effectively purge Dark Matter from living organisms without harming them. Also, Gooey is of the same kind as Dark Matter, but much like the Geth, Gooey is perhaps able to resist the "indoctrination" of his kind.

  • Then who's acting as Commander Shepard?
    • Kirby.
    • Nago.
    • Kirby.
      • Both Kirby and Commander Shepard like to dance!
  • Oddly enough, King Dedede shares the same administrative functions as Ambassador Udina in Mass Effect in that he only acts as a figurehead, and is also misunderstood in terms of motive at times. Yet, he doesn't seem to have a Council to answer to, and nobody seems to care what he does...
    • He's getting there. They've only met the Queen Fairy of Ripple Star, whose fairy denizens are pretty much the Asari in Kirby.
  • Warp Stars have their own natural occurring Element Zero properties, which explains how Kirby is able to hop from star to star in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards without a need of a Mass Relay. This also explains why Kirby prefers using Warps Stars to various fastidious Cool Starships in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
  • Zero's final form in Dreamland 3 is reminiscent of the Oculus in Mass Effect 2.

Dark Matter is a Homonculus, aka, Father, and the entire Kirby story takes place beyond someone's gate.

Look at the two, and tell me they aren't similar.

Galacta Knight is a Jogress between a Dukemon/Gallantmon and an AU Kirby.

In an alternate universe, Kirby was fighting the computer virus when it suddenly glitched up and sucked Kirby in. Kirby landed in the Digital World and the first thing he metis a Dukemon asked Kirby who he is and where he came from. Kirby responded with the standard suck and [PowerCopying: A trait inherited from the games. Mega Man] solution, but instead of borrowing Dukemon's powers, he Jogressed with him. The result is Galacta Knight, who wears white armor thanks to Dukemon's overly white color scheme, a hot pink body thanks to a mixture of Kirby's pink and Dukemon's red, Dukemon's set of weapons and a few of his abilities, horns due to Dukemon's originally dragon nature, and a pair of wings that were somehow taken from Dukemon's Crimson Mode. Since Kirby is the base, Galacta Knight is not a Digimon but since the result was from a Jogress, Kirby cannot spit the powers out either. With his new found power, Galacta Knight ripped a hole through the space-time continuum and ended back in his world, or so he thought. Before Galcata Knight could even realize he was in an alternate version of his world, he was sealed for his tremendous power, only to eventually challenged by Meta Knight.

Kirby is from the The Mr. Men Show.

I guess he is Mr. Hungry or Mr. Copycat.

Dark Matter is Sauron.

At the end of the Third Age, Sauron lost his physical form, and the ability to produce one. But, through strange eons, even death may die; and so, millions of years after the War of the Ring, Sauron returns to "life", but as a new creature. This body is now made of dark matter, and while his Mind Control powers and his ability to raise the dead are intact, he gains some sweet new powers on the side.

    • Assuming that Dark Mind is a form of Dark Matter, this is further supported by the fact that his final form looks like Sauron's eye.

The entire Kirby universe is a depiction of what happens "when the stars are right" in the Cthulhu Mythos

From The Call of Cthulhu: "They were not composed altogether of flesh and blood. They had shape...but that shape was not made of matter. When the stars were right, They could plunge from world to world through the sky..." The Kirby universe takes place during one of these time periods, and the Warp Stars represent the incomprehensible means by which eldritch entities move from world to world.

This theory implies that nearly every creature in the Kirby universe that are not limited to living on a single planet, from the lowliest Waddle Dee to Dark Matter itself, is in fact a monster that would reduce the human mind to gibbering madness if we were to ever behold their true forms, fortunately, the games greatly reduce their complexity in order to be playable by mere humans. Some of the bosses that only appear in one game and in one location, however, might be mundane, physical beings capable of punching out Eldritch Abominations, which is why, unlike most creatures in the Kirby universe, they stay dead after they are killed (for the rest, the phrase "through strange eons, even death may die" comes to mind).

This would nicely explain why the planets in the "Pop Star System" vary from game to game: there is no Pop Star System. Whenever we see a collection of planets Kirby can fly to (as in Kirby Super Star and Kirby 64 The Crystal Shards), this is merely a two- or three-dimensional simplification of the worlds he is capable of reaching based on the current position of the stars, which may be millions of light years apart in physical space, and, more likely than not, do not even exist in the same universe (which would explain why many of these planets take on bizarre shapes that could not exist in our reality). As the stars are constantly in motion, this set of planets regularly shifts. Notably, this collection of planets once included a post-apocalyptic frozen Earth in which robots had taken over.

Meta Knight is secretly Metroid Prime, aka. Dark Samus.

After Corruption, Dark Samus WAS able to condense with the Supernova explosion of Phaaze into a dense (but weak) version of itself. However, it could not exist for long...until a star warrior from the Kirbyverse strolled by. The star warrior took pity upon the dying creature, so he inhaled it into his being. With this process, the star warrior and Metroid Prime live in tandem now, as the star warrior gives Prime fencing powers, and in exchange colors him blue and enhance his sword skills beyond comprehension with the power of Phazon. With Phazon, however, there needs to be some protection. Why not make a mask to symbolize the glory days? As long as he keeps on the mask, the Popstar population will be spared from the power of Samus, and the people of Popstar will never know they house a fugitive of Eldritch Abomination proportions...

Kirby is a Time Lord.

Just a very, very strange one.

Bandanna Waddle Dee is a Time Lord.

Crazy? Yes. Evidence? Maybe. In Super Star Ultra, you fight Bandanna Waddle Dee, and kill him. However, he reappears to cheer for Dedede the very next fight. Many use this as evidence of Kirby not killing his foes. But what if there's a different explanation? I can think of two:

  • Another Waddle Dee put on a blue bandanna. It's just an accessory, after all. Any waddle dee could have put one on.
  • Bandanna Waddle Dee is a Time Lord. Now hang on here, this might get confusing.
    • The one Kirby fights actually dies; the one in the crowd is actually from the killed one's past. Crowd Bandanna Dee is actually there; being the version from that time. Heck, he might have even got the bandanna idea right then. From himself!
    • The one Kirby kills is from the future - hence he knows Kirby as a friend and doesn't do anything to harm him (Hey, he would have his spear by that point!). Waddle Dee still being what he is, goes down easily. If he's fought normally, it fits that he's now more durable than other Waddle Dees from having at least one full-scale quest with Kirby. If he's inhaled in this fight... well, that makes anthing his size into a One-Hit Wonder, now doesn't it?
    • If so, Kirby also unknowingly killed his future friend in the past. Whoops!

Misc/Unsorted

Gooey is Zero.

  • In KDL 2: Gooey appears for the first time in any Kirby game. We know he's a "good" blob of Dark Matter.
    • My guess is that Zero had copied his consciousness, then placed it within a blob of DM, to possess Kirby the same way DM possessed other powerful Pop Star inhabitants. Kirby was just too powerful, and (2nd) Zero became Gooey as a result.
  • By KDL 3: Gooey helps Kirby defeat Zero, knowing that he would essentially kill himself, because he is Kirby's friend.
  • But then, K 64 CS: Zero-Two appears, without his positive emotions... because Kirby killed him the first time--with Zero's own help!

That's why Gooey hasn't appeared in subsequent games.

Gooey is Zero-Two.

In the final battle of Crystal Shards, you see Zero-Two make a (for lack of a better word...) derpish face, and then the battle starts. That face looks an awful lot like the expression Gooey always had, and we never see him in the main game. So, something must of happened in between the two games. He, after some form of corruption, transformed into what we know as Zero Two. That is why he does not appear in 64. (The animal friends just didn't want to leave Pop Star). The face Zero-Two makes is him trying to feel positive emotions again and to say hello (or... goodbye) before his mind is lost and they fight.

Galacta Knight is Kirby from the future.

Who else would the greatest warrior in the galaxy be? Even as a kid, Kirby's destroyed everything that's dared to get in his way. As he grew older, his power became greater until it was decided that he should be sealed away for fear that he would inadvertently destroy Pop Star.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are the Mirror World alternates of Wham Bam Rock

Look at Wham Bam Rock: a sentient religious idol who attacks with his disembodied hands, uses finger lasers when he upgrades into Wham Bam Jewel, and is made out of stone. Master and Crazy Hand are gods, but they have the same tactics and humanlike hands.

Kirby is a threat to all of Dreamland

Semi-related to the "evil SOB" entry above. Note how all the major problems that occur in Dream Land happen because Dedede tries to preemptively handle things, and then Kirby runs in and beats the crap out of him and unleashes some ultimate evil in the process.

  • ...but don't forget that he DID save Dream Land from starvation that one time Dedede stole all of the food. Maybe he holds this above everyone's heads if they ever complain to him. Or he just sucks 'em up, I don't know.
    • Kirby also manages to stop all of the ultimate evils that he unwittingly unleashes, so maybe he's the universe's way of blowing up all the evil cans before a wimpy nitwit opens 'em up?

Meta Knight will become the next Galacta Knight

Seen on GameFAQs, of all places. When Meta Knight finds Nova, he tells him that his one wish is to become stronger and stronger. Notice how Meta Knight doesn't need to explain WHY he wants to fight the ultimate warrior; all Marx had to do is say "I want to control Pop Star!" and that's it. No questions asked. Obviously, this was meant as exposition for the player. Sometime in the future, Meta Knight will reach a level of power that threatens all of Dream Land, and he may unleash another Well-Intentioned-Extremism-fueled rampage. The result will probably end in Meta Knight either dying or being sealed away by Kirby or Dedede's hand, if they haven't been killed by Meta Knight already. This will probably happen again and again one way or another.

  • Seeing as this hasn't been confirmed yet, it's unlikely that it ever will. Galacta Knight has come back to fight Meta Knight twice since then. The one who seems to have replaced Galacta Knight is Morpho Knight, appearing in at least two games.

The Waddle Dee species is prone to mutation

Hence the existence of Waddle Doos, Kirby, Meta Knight, and Galacta Knight.

Kirby was somehow fused with a piece of Dark Matter

We've already seen a "good" piece of Dark Matter in Gooey, and his powers are suspiciously similar to Kirby's. With the exception of Gooey, Kirby seems to be unique among Dream Landers. Even though Dedede can mimic Kirby's inhalation and floating powers, he hasn't yet been able to duplicate Kirby's Power Copying. Not only that, but the nearest relatives of Kirby, the Waddle Dees and Meta Knight, also don't share his powers. The obvious conclusion is that Kirby's powers may also come from Dark Matter. This means, of course, that Dark Matter has been continually thwarted by a piece of himself.

  • There are enemies Amazing Mirror and Helpers in Kirby Super Star that can copy abilities too. Maybe it's just rare?
    • The Kirbies in Amazing Mirror are actually mirror copies of Kirby, so it makes sense they would have his powers, and TAC (and low-health Helpers) doesn't copy things the same way Kirby does. But we still have Keeby and the Palette Swapped Kirbies from Air Ride and Return To Dream Land.
    • Not mirror copies, enemies, the yellow guys who suck out Kirby's power then run off with it.

Kirby's species can only copy powers at a young age

As they age, they eventually settle down onto a single powerset based on common usage and personality, like daemons in His Dark Materials. Meta-Knight, for example, settled on the Sword power. Presumably, the advantage to settling like that is that you can keep the powers even after being hit very hard and such. Kirby can still copy because he's still a baby.

  • I've had this theory for forever. Glad to know someone else sees it.

Meta Knight is incapable of copying powers

Similar to the WMG before but in a different view. Notice how members of Kirby's species can suck up enemies and copy their powers? (This is evidenced by Kirby Air Ride, although it may not be considered canon since the game is a spin-off.) We've seen Meta Knight's face enough to conclude that he's the same race as Kirby. Yet his ability to copy powers isn't even mentioned in either the games or the anime. (Though, the anime has a different universe than the games.) My theory? He's an oddball of his race, as he can't copy abilities, much less suck enemies up. To compensate for this, he learned swordfighting. (Which can explain why he's associated with Blade and Sword Knights so much.)

The characters in the Kirby games are human.

What the player sees is not reality. This "cute" appearance is done for stylistic reasons; all the characters are human. Kirby doesn't really inhale things; he is a warrior/magician who has the ability to copy powers.

Kirby is not real.

He is only a dream made real by his homeland, very similar to Tidus.

  • Well, his homeland isn't called "Dream Land" for nothing.

Meta Knight CAN copy powers, he just chooses not to.

If we accept that Meta Knight is the same race as Kirby, we have yet to see any valid reason for him to be incapable of Kirby's techniques (besides the fact that his mask covers his mouth). But we do know that Meta Knight is not as childlike as Kirby. One interesting possibility is that Meta Knight realized the Fridge Logic inherent in his powers and had a Heel Realization, vowing to never eat another foe (and deciding to use a weapon instead). This casts his relationship with Kirby in a new light: Meta Knight fights Kirby because he believes their powers are too destructive to be in a child's hands, but he knows Kirby isn't intentionally evil. This also provides an alternate reason for Meta Knight to give Kirby a sword whenever they fight: he's trying to nudge Kirby into relying less on his natural powers.

Kirby is not a heartless monster. Just stupid.

Kirby only eats/kills things that he thinks have to do with the 'plot.' Most of the creatures that he eats are incapable of communicating with him due to not being sapient, or simply not having a mouth or readily available alternate methods of communication. Anything Kirby lets live has some means to communicate their innocence to him. (Except the second-tier members of the Squeaks. Those were killed each time Kirby fought them, and Daroach brought them back to life each time with the Star Rod Triple Star.) Any friends Kirby is ever depicted as having made offscreen are ONLY his friends BECAUSE he befriended offscreen, as had he encountered them in a game, they would have most likely been eaten like any other small mute creature that gets in his way. The final bosses COULD communicate with Kirby, but are definitively guilty of whatever reason Kirby is pissed off, so they get to be killed by the awesome might that is the adorable pink gum-ball known as Kirby.

  • Explain Waddle Dee in Crystal Shards? He's killed plenty of them before and since. There's no proof that Waddle Dee didn't just go back to normal after that game, so Kirby may have killed the little fellow that helped him! And it might not be canon, but the Waddle Dees in Air Ride - they run out of the way when they see you coming, if they aren't in a minecart. A cart kind of like the one CS Waddle Dee gives you a ride in, now that I think about it.

Kirby's devouring of his enemies is not at all harmful to them.

When Kirby "eats" a foe, he is not killing them or digesting them in a traditional sense. His actions against them are merely an inconvenience to the poor creature. You see, after Kirby eats a foe, all it takes to make that character respawn is to leave the screen, and return to that spot. The enemy is there, good as new! Rather than being left inside his belly to be digested, these foes are immediately ejected in some unseen process. This troper makes the assumption that Kirby, and all "Kirbies", can either fully digest their intake, or eject it after absorbing whatever special properties they can take away from it. Besides the reappearing enemies, one other thing may corroborate this theory: In the Super Smash Bros games, when Kirby swallows an enemy, this is exactly what happens. The foe is pooted out and regains their full form instantly!

  • To add a darker tone to this theory, the soul of the enemy escapes Kirby, and recreates its body when he's far enough.
  • In "Revenge of the King", right before you fight King Dedede, you fight a "Boss" Waddle Dee with a bandana who can be killed in one hit by inhaling and swallowing him. Either way, he sits and watches as the only member in the audience while you fight King Dedede.


Dark Matter is a physical manifestation of malice, and Gooey's form was somehow altered.

All Dark Matter beings seem to be able to do is either act violent and destructive, or make others act the same way. It causes despair and pain, and turns the closest allies into foes. This troper assumes that, normally, this is all Dark Matter is capable of, and all it is made of. And there is only one strange exception: Gooey. Gooey is made entirely of Dark Matter, yet has no malice. Something either robbed him of it, or corrupted him with some positive quality. Unable to become a benevolent being, this corruption led him instead to lose his mind, hence the gleefully senseless blob we see in the games.

  • This troper thinks that Kirby ate him, left him in his mouth for a bit while doing whatever Kirby does between games (eat and be happy I suppose), and Kirby's natural laziness and happiness just passed onto Gooey. Of course, Gooey's a bit crazy because he's still a bit of Dark Matter, and he shouldn't be able to be nice.

Kirby's games are only relatively easy because Kirby is so powerful.

This guy can suck up nearly anything and copy its powers, then use those powers against things that just shouldn't be. He's quite clearly an Eldritch Abomination, and a very powerful one, after a Heel Face Turn. For any other being not named YHVH, even the most Badass of them, a Kirby game would more closely resemble I Wanna Be the Guy, but harder. Indeed, there's a reason the hero in You Have to Burn The Rope is so Kirby-like: that's Kirby, after swallowing Indiana Jones, going through a "normal" game.

  • If he was an eldritch abomination he wouldn't need all the Eleventh Hour Superpowers he gets and wouldn't have been turned into a ball by Drawcia.

Meta Knight can swallow enemies.

He doesn't use this power because 1.) He would have to take off his mask, and expose his cuteness. 2.) Meta Knight is too cool for that. And 3.) Meta Knight is a mutated Kirby and when he tries to swallow a foe, he eats their soul instead.

Galacta Knight is a higher rank than Meta Knight.

In Dream Land, there's a ranking for knights. Meta- and Galacta- just happen to be a ranking. Kirby's is most likely Star.

GIM is a newer model of Heavy Lobster.

It'd be one thing if they were both bipedal robots who just happened to share the same Gold/Blue coloring scheme, but in Helper to Hero mode of Kirby Super Star Ultra, they both change their color palettes, and they both get the same new Silver/Red coloring!

Meta Knight is a double-crosser.

In the original information on Meta Knight he was a good friend of Dedede. So good a friend, in fact, that Dedede gives MK a piece of the Star Rod to protect. Come a few games later, Meta Knight is out to take control over what Dedede has claimed by using a giant battle ship to destroy all in his way. What a great friend.

Meta Knight is blind.

Well, he has the Milky White Eyes for it. Maybe the mask helps him see, and that's why he always flees when he loses it.

Unifying with the (possibly false) fact that Meta Knight doesn't like to use his powers, Dedede is of Kirby's species.

He chose hammer.

  • That just sounds wrong. If Dedede is of Kirby's species, then why does he look like a penguin?!?
    • See the theory "Kirby is set in a universe where penguins have larval forms".

The origin of Kirby and Meta Knight.

Kirby and Meta Knight come from a race sworn to protect the universe from that which should not be. Dark Matter was a recurring adversary of their race, but time and time again, it would be vanquished by the species' greatest warrior: Galacta Knight. Meta Knight, who was still a training soldier at the time, looked up to Galacta Knight and wanted to become a great swordsman just like him. As children, members of this species have the ability to absorb powers from foes. However, while training to become a soldier of the universe, they must settle on one power, or alternatively a combination of two. They start out with the skill's simple abilities, but they can advance their techniques above what the copy ability can provide for that power. So Meta Knight chose the sword ability mixed with the flight ability to be more like Galacta Knight. He advanced his moves to include some of his unique skills seen in the series.

But then the unthinkable happened: Galacta Knight turned against his species and began to slaughter his own people. Meta Knight's training academy was attacked by the warrior, and everyone there was killed except Meta Knight, who hid. Feeling shame that he showed cowardice when he should have fought alongside his friends, he decided to wear a mask that would hide the face of a coward. He became increasingly cold and serious afterward, and even more dedicated to fighting. The elders of the world knew Galacta Knight was too powerful to be defeated, and had to seal him in another dimension. But their world was ravaged and uninhabitable, so they went their separate ways throughout the universe.

However, an orphaned baby named Kirby was left there, until a falling star literally fell right next to him. He climbed onto it, not knowing what it was since he was still a baby, and it carried him though space until they landed on a planet called Popstar - specifically, in the nation of Dream Land. He spent a year or two there living in the forest, befriending some of the animals. This is around the beginning of the series, and Kirby is still a small child, not able to speak. Kirby had witnessed the king of Dream Land, King Dedede, being cruel to the people of the land, and Kirby became a hero by stopping him from stealing all of the food in the kingdom. Kirby was praised by the land's people, and stories of him even reached out of Dream Land, and were heard by Meta Knight, now traveling through space in his ship, the Halberd, and continuing the spread of his species' training by finding lost souls and teaching them. These students of his were the Meta Knights. Meta Knight traveled to Dream Land, hoping to teach Kirby the ways of their people, which is why he's often seen testing Kirby's strength.

  • This would mean that when wishing to fight the strongest warrior in the galaxy, he knew it would be his former hero. Either he hoped to redeem him(Defeat Equals Friendship), or to avenge his friends, family, and species in general. Take your pick.

02 is called that for a reason.

It isn't a zero, it's an O. O2 stands for oxygen, which is what Kirby sucks in whenever there are no enemies. Therefore, O2 is more related to Kirby than one might think.

Meta Origin

In an alternate timeline, the Star Rod was broken during the fight with Nightmare, in such a way as to not produce easily reassembled pieces as before. In a last-ditch effort to save Dream Land, Kirby used all of his strength to inhale Nightmare, and collapsed from the effort. He awoke, the world apparently saved, as if Nightmare had never been released from the Fountain of Dreams. Kirby was slightly groggy, but snapped awake when he heard his own voice. The effort of sucking in Nightmare had made his voice much deeper. He tried inhaling enough air to fly, but found that it caused him too much pain to suck in enough to even kill a Waddle Dee. Flight wasn't much of a problem, as Nightmare Kirby's cloak could form wings. But exhalation was his primary method of attack. He couldn't use his Copy Abilities again without freeing Nightmare. Feeling that the Star Rod was permanently lost, he used what was left of it to forge himself a sword, and a mask for which he could cover his shame. He knew that if he ever showed his face again, he would be blamed for having destroyed the Star Rod. But then he noticed what seemed to be himself from just a few hours ago. Possibly having been driven insane from what had happened to him, Kirby decided that this impostor had to be dealt with. He conjured minions using his new powers, and sent them to fight with his doppleganger. He would encounter his doppleganger many times while he learned how to use his sword. By the time he encountered his doppleganger for the last time, he was a Master Swordsman, and such a master in fact, that he felt it would be dishonorable to fight even this despicable clone unless the clone were given a sword to fight with. It was after he was defeated and had his identity (sort of) revealed, that he realized the truth. The battle with Nightmare had caused him to travel back in time, and he had inadvertently become the monster that pestered him throughout his Adventure.

  • But if Meta Knight was there in the timeline where Nightmare is inhaled, how is he created? He can't be in both timelines.
    • He wasn't in that timeline.

There is more than one titular Kirby

There's a Kirby that gets hats when he swallows certain enemies (the most current one), a Kirby that doesn't get hats (Dreamland through Crystal Shards) but still gets copy abilities, and a Kirby that can't copy abilities at all. The middle one might actually be two - one that can fuse abilities and one that can't. This would also mean that the name of his species is in fact "kirby", since all of them are referred to as such.

The name is capitalized for individuals simply because they don't have a specific name, so "Kirby" is both the name of the individuals and the species as a whole. They just slightly vary in their ability to copy. This could explain the mysterious lack of his friends in recent games - it's a different kirby, so he doesn't know them.

This could also coincide with the idea of Meta Knight being a member of the species. It is possible that there is a special variant of the species that can choose one ability and make it permanent. That, or it's a) a given that any member that can copy abilities can choose one to be "permanent" or b) they actually can learn to use certain things, just like anyone else (i.e. spear waddle dees). It wouldn't effect their powers in the least, just give them an option on whether to use them or not.

Kirby's Copy inhaling doesn't kill its victims.

This is best shown in Super Smash Bros. (although I am aware that that's not the real Kirby), although it's always possible to bring back Kirby's enemies by leaving that area of the screen and then returning. Also, if you swallow the Waddle Dee with the blue bandanna in "Revenge of the King," he survives. In fact, you can do anything to him and he survives. With the exception of final bosses that Kirby kills using their specific weakness, the enemies don't die, they are teleported or something.

Kirby and Meta Knight are not of the same species.

If you look very carefully, you notice that Kirby has pink flaps for hands, Meta Knight has arms AND hands! This is especially noticeable in Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.

  • But Meta Knight is supposed to be older than Kirby. So maybe as they get older they get arms?
    • In the Japanese-only game Kirby's Star Stacker, when Meta Knight is shown without his mask and armor, his limbs and face look exactly like Kirby's.
    • Further supporting the alternative: In earlier games, Meta Knight has limbs that look exactly like Kirby's. In newer games (and the anime), he has thin arms and hands (leading to the Fan Nickname of "Senyor Noodlearms").
    • Their bone structure is such that they can rearrange them to make their arms end in nubs or hands. This also allows them to squeeze into tight spaces.
    • Or Meta Knight has gloves that are magic like his space bending cape that turns into wings and are actually magical/mechanical and he began using them when he began using his cape.
    • Brawl in the Family opposes this. Apparently, Meta Knight looked identical to Kirby in Cocoon Academy. That is, until parts of Dark Matter got mixed with him.

Meta Knight is extremely vain.

The Codec calls in Super Smash Brothers states that he's "narcassistic", and the fact he's plastered his mask on the bow of a warship. Therefore, MK doesn't wear his mask because he's GRIMDARK, he uses it to protect his cute features! As soon as he loses his mask, he fears his looks will be damaged forever in battle, and flees. Still totally badass, though.

    • Well, it is implied in Kirby's Epic Yarn that Meta Knight wears the mask to look mysterious...and undoubtedly cool.

The Kirby series is connected to Final Fantasy IV.

Kirby is Cecil, Meta Knight is *obviously* Golbez, Zero is Zemus/Zeromus, Dedede is the reborn (true) King Baron; et cetera. Who is Kain? Prince Fluff of course!

  • So that means that... Meta Knight is Kirby's brother?

Meta Knight is Kirby's adult form

  • In Super Star, Meta Knight could perform Mach Tornado without the aid of a Copy Ability. Mach Tornado is the strongest attack that he has in most games, and in his playable appearance it was the gameplay equivalent of Crash.
  • He could shoot fire and lightning from Galaxia in Squeak Squad: Flame and Spark, anyone?
  • I don't have to mention Sword, do I?
  • He also has super-speed and can use Full Heal on himself as many times as he wants to.

Other unrelated points are:

  • He and Kirby are not the only Kirbies in existence, as evidenced by Keeby and all of those other mini-game Kirbies.
  • Copying is not a skill unique to the Kirby species: the TAC can also copy.

Kirby caused Dedede to pull a Face Heel Turn.

The proof is in Brawl in the Family. The reason Kirby keeps taking down Dedede is for two possible reasons: A. Kirby never lived it down, or B. Kirby thinks Defeat Equals Friendship.

The Real origin of Kirby, Meta Knight, and Dedede

A combination of several WMGs above and it makes a lot of sense. There was once a peaceful race of odd creatures called the Waddle Dees. Dark Matter had existed for even longer. One day a fragment of Dark Matter drifted down to the pop star and fused with a Waddle Dee. The next thing he knew, he woke up, he could think in a whole new way, and he had a mouth. With that mouth came a crippling hunger that could only be satisfied by the nearest Waddle Dees. Interestingly, after eating a Waddle Doo, he got the power of it. He practiced his copy power and named himself Dedede. He decided with his superior brain he could rule the Waddle Dee race.

Years later King Dedede had easily taken over the planet. But as he got older, it got harder to use his power. When he hit puberty, he couldn't do it anymore. He made sure he had the hammer power, his favorite, before that happened. Right around that time, another piece of Dark Matter fell upon a Waddle Dee. He eventually realized how different he was and thinking he was a freak, ran away. He passed the lonely days by practicing the sword ability. People who saw glimpses of him called him "Meta Knight"

Soon after Meta Knight hit puberty, keeping the sword ability, King Dedede had expanded his rule across the solar system. And yet another piece of Dark Matter fused with a Waddle Dee. This one was not shy and ate whatever it wanted. King Dedede wanted this "Kirby" (Named by Popstar inhabitants) destroyed and order restored because, being one himself, he knew how powerful that species is.

In relation to a couple of theories above about how Kirby doesn't kill enemies he sucks in,...

...this is perfectly true and there is a perfectly good reason for this. As detailed by those theories, when you inhale an enemy and then walk offscreen, it reappears, even if you haven't swallowed them yet, meaning you can take them out and have two of them. This would indicate that what is in Kirby's mouth is not the actual enemy, merely a shell containing their power. Obviously, the moment they are sucked in, they start to re-coalesce, not having been dead for an instant. And the reason for this: it's a dream! It seems to make sense that Dream Land would follow dream logic, and, just as there's no death in a child's world, there's no death in Dreamland, hence why you can kill Kracko or Whispy Woods as many times as you like and they can still come back. At best, Kirby's just mildly inconveniencing them, and getting them out of his way until he can get past them. Oh, and before anyone mentions Freddy Krueger, remember that a) the ability to kill people in dreams seems to be a unique ability he possesses, and the above evidence that Kirby doesn't kill his enemies shows he doesn't have this ability, and b) Kirby could kick Freddy's arse. Just trust me on this one.


Kirby needs to eat, otherwise he'd die.

The anime suggest an alternate dimension, right? However, it also suggests a black hole as well, which is far more likely(black holes absorb matter and add it to their own; Kirby absorbs enemy matter and adds their power to his, allowing him to copy them). If he had a black hole in him, then it would constantly be stripping away his matter. It's been happening all his life, so Kirby doesn't notice. He inhales enemies to give the black hole something else to destroy. This explains his reaction to his cake getting stolen; he was probably at a critical state and was hanging on by a thread. Makes you "no-copy-abilities" players regret your play methods, doesn't it?

  • So basically he's forced to devour innocents to save himself from default? That would explain the whole 'get in my way, I eat you' thing in the games. What happens if the black hole destroys him, or someone finally actually defeats him? Does it continue with the rest around it? Meaning, any land Kirby decides to live in is screwed whether he lives or dies, via residents being constantly eaten to satiate the literal black hole or via the black hole getting out of hand... Crap, that's scary. Wouldn't explain Meta Knight, though.

Galacta Knight wasn't immediately at full power when he was unsealed

He was weakened from his time spent in his crystal prison. Maybe he'll be a major antagonist later when he finally gets back to full power.

  • Galacta Knight has appeared in several Kirby games since Kirby Super Star Ultra, and he has a major role in Super Kirby Clash under the name "Aeon Hero".

Meta Knight's mask is his equivalent of Kirby's copy hats.

He flees when you break it because you just knocked his copy ability away. Since Kirby doesn't summon enemies or stars or anything to inhale, the fight is now unwinnable for him, and so he retreats.

In future Kirby installments, Zero's invasion never happened.

In Kirby's Dream Land 3, the huge Dark Matter that Zero used to invade Pop Star broke the rings that circled it. After Zero is defeated, three rays of light (red, blue, and green) become the new rings for Pop Star. We've never seen these three rings ever again. Therefore, in every future Kirby game where Pop Star has two rings, Zero's invasion hasn't happened, yet.

Bandana Waddle Dee is the same Waddle Dee from 64.

Because why not?

  • That could be his origin as a stand-out of his kind, actually. He would have had more adventure time with Dedede than a normal Waddle Dee by then.

Kirby's species name is "poyo".

In the anime, he's using Pokémon-Speak. This explains why Meta Knight is able to understand his babbling.

All pink kirbies are special.

And with 'kirbies', I'm referring to the species in general. There is something going on with Kirby and Meta Knight's species similar to the purple dragons in Spyro the Dragon; however, instead of purple, the favored color is pink in this case. Pink puffballs are extremely uncommon and unlikely to come about, but when they DO pop up, they're the stuff of legends. This explains why of all the available colors for Kirby in multiplayer games, the pink one is always the hero, and how there's no other pink recurring characters except for Galacta Knight, who is also an example; his powers were so great he eventually had to be locked away by NOVA.


Kirby is actually a piece of Dark Matter.

In the first Kirby game (and in Spring Breeze) it's implied that Kirby apparently came out of nowhere. The game literally says that he's the hero of Dream Land and that some residents call him Kirby, as if no one knew about Kirby and only knew him as the 'Hero of Dream Land'. Seems like a normal hero with an unknown story, right?

And for such a cute-looking game, why would monsters like Zero/Zero-Two, Nightmare, and Drawcia show up?

The answer is simple. Kirby was created by Zero and is technically a Dark Matter agent. Zero used a race that was unknown to the rest of the galaxy and based Kirby on that race piece. Kirby was created to trick planets into thinking that he was a nice harmless alien and lure them into getting conquered for Zero's goals.. This backfired as Kirby either just wasn't interested in conquering planets or liked his target planet Pop Star so much that he didn't want to have it under Zero's rule. Zero didn't react well when learning that one of his creations had disobeyed him and actually saved the target planet from Dark Matter.

After Zero's defeat, Kirby, betraying his original purpose, is Dream Land's, and extently Pop Star's, main source of protection, as if to show that he will never give in to Zero's control.

  • That's roughly the same as my theory on why Gooey is a friendly Dark Matter, and why he vanished after Dream Land 3.

The Dream Fork in Kirby's Dream Buffet is a Jackass Genie and a trap to make sure that Kirby can't save the world next time evil forces invade.

It might even have been cursed by Necrodeus after he escaped from the void to shrink Kirby down instead of actually giving him a mountain-sized cake. The worst part is that Kirby won't know he's been cursed until it's too late. Could this mean a Kirby Mass Attack 2 is on the way?

Meta Knight is the Mirror World counterpart of Galacta Knight.

Not only does Meta Knight have a dark palette and a brooding and mysterious nature compared to Galacta Knight's angelic design, but his Mirror World counterpart, Dark Meta Knight, is stated to have been created by Dark Mind, unlike Shadow Kirby and Shadow Dedede who were probably just there. Also, those two Mirror World counterparts, especially the former, are just mischievous and crazy as opposed to downright evil. Meta Knight has also proven himself a worthy opponent to Galacta Knight in the games he's fought him in, suggesting that they have similar levels of power and/or skill. Plus, why else would his sword be called the Galaxia?

  • Wait - if Meta Knight is the Mirror World counterpart of Galacta Knight, and Dark Meta Knight is the Mirror World counterpart of Meta Knight, doesn't that make Dark Meta Knight the Mirror World counterpart of a Mirror World counterpart?

President Haltmann and Susie are (descended from) Halcandrians.

Both they and Magolor have Floating Limbs, and Magolor describes the Lor Starcutter as being made with an ancient power that was also used to craft other creations such as the "clockwork stars" (such as Nova and Star Dream). President Haltmann or one of his ancestors may have been driven to bitter metallic revenge seeing the mechanised wreck that Halcandra was in.

  • Susie is said by Word of God to have been transported to another dimension in the accident with Star Dream. Magolor says he is from "another dimension" in Kirby's Dream Collection, and it's implied that he's referring to the dimension Halcandra is in. However, "another dimension" need not refer to any specific dimension, and the Another Dimension level in Kirby's Return to Dream Land is clearly separate from Halcandra.
    • As his dialogue in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe reveals, Magolor lied about being from Halcandra to get Kirby to come there. Whatever "another dimension" he's from, it's not Halcandra. Haltmann and Susie only have Floating Limbs because almost every Kirby character from that era does.

Susie doesn't recognise President Haltmann as her father.

Because if she did then she probably would have told him by now, even if Pres. Haltmann might not have believed her. Susie doesn't explicitly refer to Haltmann as her father in her dialogue, even when he's not around. She's also quite cold-hearted towards her father as she swipes Star Dream's controller off him with no regard for what she just did to him, and she only tasks Kirby with defeating Star Dream so she can sell it to another company.

And if Star Dream can erase President Haltmann's memories, it can erase Susie's too. Just imagine the horror Susie would have when or if she discovered that the ex-CEO she indirectly killed was her own father -- assuming Star Dream hadn't already turned her into a heartless corporate monster by then.

  • Susie probably didn't completely forget about her father, as the loss of the latter's memories was caused by Star Dream secretly messing with his mind, presumably through the controller, and her dialogue when she steals the controller implies that she wants to get Haltmann's memories back. But she could well have been manipulated by the machine or other forces to do things she didn't really want to do. She may even have forgotten what lesson she wanted to teach Haltmann.

The levels in Kirby: Planet Robobot are the same as those in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
