Kobato/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Nightmare Fuel: Ushagi-san, a cute, white, perpetually smiling rabbit who is a messenger of God. Oh, and he giggles maniacally.
    • This troper was pretty scared in that episode, too, but for a different reason. It was Ioryogi's incredibly happy voice in Kobato's fantasy about them going together on a date.
    • And this troper thought she was the only one to be freaked out by Ushagi! Honestly, they weren't that creepy in the Wish manga. In the manga, they were actually really cute.
  • Mood Whiplash: That eyecatch can be very jarring. Particularly when it comes after listening to a child screaming his grief to the snow on Christmas.
  • Ho Yay: Ginsei towards Ioryogi.
    • Genko even lampshades it in Chapter 21-B of the manga!

Genko: You sure are obsessed with Iorogi.
Ginsei: NO! That is because the only person who can win against Iorogi is me! So before that happens, won't allow him to admit defeat to anyone else.
Genko: Wow~ I'm blushing from hearing this.
Ginsei: Who's blushing!?

  • Tastes Like Diabetes: For some, Kobato herself
  • Tear Jerker: The end of episode 23 'Sayonara'
    • Episode 24, too. You've had me waiting all these years. You're late again. Cue Kobato hugging Fujimoto tearfully while playing Ashita Kuru Hi in the background. But that's more of a case of YMMV.
  • Values Dissonance: At the end of the anime, both Fujimoto and Kobato push Sayaka to go back to Okiura. This can seem heartwarming when you don't think too much about it, but on later reflection it seems very strange that they would want her to go back to someone who was openly emotionally abusive, even if he did it because he thought it would be better than if it were his father.
