Los Caballeros Las Prefieren Brutas
("Gentlemen Prefer Them Dumb")
A Romantic Comedy series produced by Laberinto Producciones for Sony Pictures Television and Caracol Television, Based on an Advice Book by Colombian writer Isabella Santo Domingo. Unlike some rather infamous examples of such trope, the writer herself got involved in the series production and the resulting first season was quite a hit in several Latin American countries, with a second season scheduled to air on October 13th 2011, a third to follow, and a possible fourth, depending on the ratings for the latter two.
Cristina Oviedo (Valerie Domínguez) is at the epitome of her life, both professionally (she's one of the two most famous graphic designers in Colombia) and romantically, as she's about to get married to her boyfriend Eduardo (Juan Pablo Espinoza). Everything seems to be perfect until the night before her wedding when, just after her Bachelorette Party, she comes home along with her friends just in time to walk in on Eduardo and her childhood friend, Pamela (Ángela Vergara), in a very compromising situation. Cristina obviously dumps him, but remains afraid to start any new relationships at all, and then decides to cheer up her life a little by looking for a roommate.
Meanwhile, writer and ladies' man Alejandro Botero (Juan Pablo Raba), while struggling to get his book published, gets dumped by his girlfriend and finds himself homeless when she throws him out of her apartment. When looking for a new home (and barely having found a job in a women's magazine directed by one of his exes), he stumbles upon Cristina's ad and goes to her office to ask about the room. During the interview, they separately realize that they find each other quite attractive, but that prompts Cristina to reject him with a lame excuse because she won't risk having a roommate that could become something more than that.
After overhearing Cristina's friend Rodrigo (Mijail Mulkay) that she should have specified that only girls or gay men should apply to the ad, Alejandro, seeking desperately to find a home (and not bothering about sharing an apartment with such a hottie) decides to pretend he's gay to get the room. Hilarity Ensues.
The first season (actually, just the first half of it) deals with Cristina and Alejandro's obvious attraction to each other, despite his efforts to hide his straightness and hers not to fall in love with him, and all the situations that arise from this; while the second half deals with what happens after his cover is blown.
At the same time, the series shows the relationships among Gracia (Michelle Manterola), Cristina's sister, her husband Guillo (Rodrigo Candamil); Cristina's friends and coworkers Hanna (Patricia Castañeda) and Rodrigo; Alejandro's best friend, Miguel (Gustavo Ángel); Pamela and Eduardo, and Alejandro's boss Esther (Ana María Trujillo).
- Accidental Hug
- Affectionate Nickname: Alejo, Cris, Gra (and Graciosita), Guillo, Migue, Rodri, Rob...
- Ascended Extra: All the recurring characters' actors' names that weren't present in the opening credits for the first season are now there. Which makes sense, given that: a) They already were in a lot of episodes, b) gave the series a lot of its charm, and c) it would have felt weird to not have them back in the new seasons.
- Baby Talk: Pamela, to Eduardo.
- Beta Couple: Gracia and Guillo. Also Hanna and Miguel, or at least it seems like it near the end of the first season.
- The beginning of the second makes it clear that at least they'll give it a try.
- Camp Gay: Rodrigo.
- Captain's Log: At the end of every episode.
- Casanova Wannabe: Miguel, although he sometimes does get a couple of girls.
- Comic Sutra: Alejandro and his Spanish date when she tells him to try "La Araña" (The Spider).
- Dumb Blonde: What Pamela pretends to be to get what she wants (which is part of the whole show concept).
- Embarrassing Cover Up: Miguel agrees for a while to pretend he's Alejandro's boyfriend to help protect his secret, right after their Gay Moment.
- Erotic Dream: After Gracia meets her and Guillo's new neighbor and starts developing a crush on him, not only does she dream about him, but also about Guillo.
- Everyone Can See It: That Cristina would like to be more than Alejandro's friend. He eventually notices, too, and feels likewise, but can't do a thing about it without blowing up his cover.
- Fake Nationality: Michelle Manterola, who plays Colombian Valerie Domínguez's sister, is Mexican. But she pulls off a very convincing accent most of the time.
- Faux Yay: The driving force of the first season's first half.
- Friends with Benefits: Hanna and Miguel try this, after her finding out he's not gay either. As expected, it doesn't work.
- But, as of the beginning of the second season, now it seems they are better now as a couple.
- Gaydar: How Rodrigo tries to find out the truth about Alejandro. Surprisingly, Alejandro gets to deceive even him.
- Gay Moment: After Alejandro tries to force Miguel to close a porn site on his computer, Cristina walks in on them and finds them a little too close to each other.
- Gratuitous French: Madame Mon Amour's Blog.
- Keeping Secrets Sucks: For Alejandro and Miguel. But especially for Alejandro.
- Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Miguel, after the the whole "Alejandro's Boyfriend" affair.
- Innocent Cohabitation: What Cristina is aiming for, and Alejandro tries to keep.
- Imagine Spot: Every time we see how a character, especially Cristina, feels or would like to handle the situation at hand.
- I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: Cristina and Alejandro, as roomies.
- Late Arrival Spoiler: Anyone starting to watch from the second season onwards will already know not only that the Faux Yay plot didn't work, but also that Cristina and Alejandro are currently not together.

- Love Epiphany: After hearing a Brazilian Motivational Speaker speak about her fear of love, Cristina realizes she does love and want to be with Alejandro once again.

- Shout-Out: The title of the series (and book) is a reference to the Spanish title of the famous Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, with a twist.
- Social Semi-Circle: Most scenes at the bar.

- The Confidant: Miguel to Alejandro, Rodrigo and Hanna to Cristina.
- The Matchmaker: Rodrigo. Especially near the first season's finale, when he realizes Alejandro and Cristina really do love each other.
- Will They or Won't They?: Cristina and Alejandro.
- Wrong Name Outburst: Cristina unknowingly calls another guy Alejandro seconds away to having sex with him. Needless to say, things don't go further.
- Working with the Ex: Alejandro gets a job with his ex as his boss. Which is as bad as it sounds.
