Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.


  • As noted on the front page there were quite a few interviews that were actually fake. Some of the information from the interviews include:
    • Hiroshi Ohnogi has nothing to do with Macross Frontier. Any Macross Frontier Interview which includes Hiroshi Ohnogi is fake.
    • The belief that Ranka was created before Sheryl is not true. Sheryl's character was created before Ranka's.
      • Similarly the belief that the love triangle was originally planned to be Ranka being fought over by Brera and Alto is also not true. While the original love triangle was two guys and one girl this was still in the planning stages before they decided on the characters.
    • Kawamori never once gave the Shrug of God in regards to any of the characters or their relationships to one another. Those were a part of the fake interviews.
      • Kawamori never said the ending was a Tenchi Solution ending. Kawamori never even implied that, in fact he jossed many of the dialogues that could have been taken as meaning that Alto loved both girls.
  • If it seems as though Kawamori doesn't really have much to say on the last episode its because it wasn't his idea, in fact he has very little to do with it. The last episode came from the mind of the series Composition, and Script writer, Hiroyuki Yoshino, who believed that Alto was far too Clueless to say it out loud. However unlike Kawamori he skips dropping hints and just says it out right who Alto favors.
    • In line with this tidbit of information the events last episode were not the ones originally planned. This is the reason why the events don't lead up the conclusion, because it was completely redone as last minute change. In fact the ending was originally planned for the series was radically different.
  • Kawamori has more power over the two movies than he did the TV series.
  • Even though the movies are supposedly Non-Serial Movies Kawamori does endorse the movies, especially the second one which resolves the love triangle as the end of Macross Frontier.
  • Call Back:
    • Dramatic rescuing of women by catching them as they fall through the air.
    • Sheryl tries to disguise herself in public by putting on a big pair of oversized sunglasses. Her outfit also includes a number of elements, such as a big beret, that were worn by Minmei at one point or another.
    • Ozma is a fan of Fire Bomber and thus names a formation "Totsugeki Love Heart", and the episode focused on him uses Fire Bomber music.
    • The useage of pineapple-based food to suggest death. Key word being "suggest," heh heh heh.
    • In the movie, formation MMJenius for Michel and K.K.
    • In the movie, the Macross Quarter does a pinpoint barrier punch followed by destroids filling up the enemy mothership with ordnance from the inside.
    • K.K. uses Mylene Jenius' bass while the drums are manned by the strongest woman of the team. Michel dresses up as Basara.
    • Formation Big Wednesday is similar to Isamu Dyson's plan to break through Earth's defense grid.
    • Alto folding out with the Vajra Queen is similar to the ending of Macross Zero
  • Hey, It's That Voice!:
    • Yuichi Nakamura, who voices Alto, is also the voice of Tomoya from Clannad and Graham from Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and there's some places where you half expect Alto to sprout blond hair.
      • Alto really did feel like Tomoya in a mecha setting, specially since one of his love interests shared some similarities with Tomoya's main love interest in Clannad (Both adorably shy, and end up coming out of their shell almost entirely thanks to Tomoya/Alto; both are trying to get onto a stage; both have trouble remembering the past...).
      • Also, as this show ran between seasons of Gundam 00, fans of that show also noticed how visually Alto resembled Graham's best bud and mecha designer, Billy Katagiri. There was fanart that depicted Billy and Graham doing a fusion dance, and thus becoming Alto.
    • Sheryl's Seiyu Aya Endo voiced Miyuki in Lucky Star and Kinue in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Not quite as recognizable due to the range of roles (and talent of the actress) but there are moments of similarity between Kinue and Sheryl.
      • Naturally, during the release of figures where the Lucky Star cast cosplayed as Macross Frontier cast, Miyuki ended up becoming Sheryl.
      • Some of her Lucky Star castmates also appear in minor roles Kaori Fukahara and Aya Hirano play two of the three bridge bunnies and Aya Hirano also does double duty as Pixie Squadron pilot Nene Rora (aka the pink haired one).
    • Mikhail's VA, Hiroshi Kamiya, is Tieria from the same, and generally sounds like what Tieria would sound like if he actually had a sense of humor.
    • You guys missed Kikuko Inoue as Grace? the "Goddess" of all Voice Actresses. (For those who don't get the pun, Belldandy-Ah My Goddess) Though as of how things goes on for her, she's more like I-No reborn
    • Katsuyuki Konishi, who voices Ozma Lee here, has voiced several prominent robot-show roles, including Kamina and Volfogg. The latter is particularly notable in context of Mac F as a few times when Ozma has had to sound formal, he ends up sounding almost exactly like Volfogg.
    • Jun Fukuyama voices Luca who is nearly a shota-type character....he hasn't played one in a long time.
    • When Leon Mishima starts getting into his rousing speech: hey, isn't that Kyon?
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The Macross Quarter does a technique followed by a big dramatic pose and a display of the name of the technique, similar to Genesis of Aquarion
    • Ranka singing to strengthen the Vajra while her image is projected into space is similar to how the Emulators worked from Macross II.
    • The use of surfing, even with Humongous Mecha, references Eureka Seven, another series with mechanical design by Shoji Kawamori
  • No Export for You: Despite how incredible the show ended up being, so far it looks like the show will fall victim to the infamous legal snarls surrounding the Macross franchise; nobody has said a word about even considering bringing it over, even with the show DVDs, soundtracks, and related paraphernalia matching or even shattering decade-old sales records in Japan. There's still a chance that intense industry-wide pressure from everyone else (looking to strengthen the overall market with another prominent release) will once again make the various combatants in the Macross legal snarl play nice ala Macross Plus but as time grinds on this begins to look less and less likely.
