Magus Wars

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Shirou Emiya believed that the destruction of the Holy Grail in Fuyuki City would mean the end of conflict, the end of the wars created by the Grail itself.

Apparently fate decided to kick him in the face to prove him wrong for the second time in a year and an half.

After the destruction of the Holy Grail in Fuyuki City, mages began to riot against each other. Subterfuge, assassinations, anything; if you had any ties to magical lineage or families, regardless of whether you knew magecraft or not, you were a target for other mages. The conflict began in the western half of the world, with mages fighting each other in order to prove who it was that was "the best". That conflict eventually moved east, and has now reached Fuyuki City, a place now famous for the destruction of the Holy Grail.

With the presence of the Greater Grail still there, despite the Holy Grail itself being destroyed, the conduit to the Throne of Heroes was opened, allowing Servants to be summoned by mages in order to aid them in the coming battles. No magus is safe. Welcome to the Magus Wars.

Magus Wars is a post-canon Fate/stay night roleplay, set a year and a half after the events in Fate/stay night. The forum follows the storyline of the anime, or the Fate route of the visual novel. The forum can be found here. The cbox can be found on the main page as well.

The cbox itself serves as both an in-character chatbox and a community chatbox. Most of the time, in-character events will be short, usually involving dialogue between characters that may or may not be likely to happen in roleplay. However, there is a degree of Out of Character that occurs with characters as well.

The forum also has a Character Page with tropes pertaining to the various characters around the forum.

Given that our only link to the roleplay is by way of the Wayback Machine, it is safe to assume that it is no longer active.

Tropes used in Magus Wars include:
  • Action Girl
  • Alternate Continuity: The timeline follows the Fate/Stay Night anime and therefore the Fate route of the Visual Novel. It's originally set a year and a half after Shirou destroyed the Grail. Canon characters that haven't died are playable.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Original characters based on mythical and historical figures receive this by default during character creation to explain participation in the war. Many canon characters receive new interpretations as well, depending on the player.
    • In particular, Fate/Stay Night's Caster Medea has had a major revamp in motivation: With the death of her Master and lover Kuzuki, Medea is suffering from a mixture of being heartbroken and, to some degree, jealousy towards Saber, who still has a relationship with Shirou. Still played as manipulative witch like in the series, but given a more sympathetic portrayal.
  • Anyone Can Die: Even the main characters from canon are not spared from this fate.
  • Continuity Reboot: Not sure if being used right, but Caster/Medea has gone through several single-character reboots, Retcon, etc etc. due to constantly losing her Master due to real life issues.
  • Gender Bender: As per Nasuverse standards, Arturia and Nero are both genderbent. Sigurd was nearly genderbent as well, but the idea was dropped.
    • Recently, Beowulf has been turned into a lady. Oh, Wulfina...
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Many of the Master/Servant groupings are like this; Shirou and Arturia, Theron and Ito, Cassiopeia and Bedwyr...
  • Lady of War: a number of the female Servants display this.
  • Matter of Britain: Arthurian characters are common around the forum. The staff have lost count of how many have been created and/or mused on by the members.
  • Retcon: Many Nasuverse concepts have been retconned for more freedom, such as the Assassin class. The largest of these retcons, however, is what amounts to ignoring just about everything in the Nasuverse that does not directly affect the Fate series, mostly for the purpose of simplifying the site and making it more accessible to those unfamiliar with the Nasuverse.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Illyasviel von Einzbern, due to her status as a homunclulus and the shortened lifespan that goes with it, is considered dead as she was supposedly going to die within a year of the events of Fate/Stay Night

The cbox provides examples of:

  • Big Eater: Arturia spends a lot of time eating. Usually rice. Good thing the cbox has an infinite rice supply.
  • Butch Lesbian: Nicolas claims Wulfina is this, often bringing about MULTIPLE death threats
    • Subverted in-character, as Wulfina uses her... Manly past as a cover.
  • Cloudcuckooland: Deranged, odd things come from everyone. Whether you're a member, a staffer, or a guest... You won't be spared from the insanity.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Nicolas tends to make dry snarky comments towards everyone in the Cbox.
  • Doting Parent: Uther will do anything and everything to make Arturia and Mordred see him as a good guy.
    • Which Arturia rebuffs with snarky comments about his failures, and Mordred with a swift whack on the face with Clarent
  • Double Entendre: Many, many times.
  • Jerkass: Shirou in the "Cbox RP" is one. The Jerkass persona is, of course, recognized by a Super-Deformed avatar.
    • Par for the course, Gilgamesh also acts this way to everyone but Arturia; he just claims to own her.
      • Arturia will also have shades of this, usually during short bouts of snark towards Gilgamesh.
        • Rin as well.
          • Wulfina, to most of the males.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Wulfy likes to taunt Mordred and Uther a lot.
  • Out of Character
  • Running Gag: Medea is almost always stabbed in the cbox. Usually by Rin. Also, mention of the word "skewered" in any context means the display of CG images of Medea being skewered by Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon.
    • Furthered more by the inclusion of custom character smileys in the cbox... including an animated GIF of Medea being attacked by Rin with a butcher's knife.
      • And more on this, in an instance where Medea's player switched to a Rock Lee icon during a Staring Contest (involving Arturia and her stubborn face) a crossover GIF of Rin stabbing Lee was also made.
    • Nicolas questioning Wulfina's gender and sexuality. (See Butch Lesbian above)
    • Wulfina calling Gilgamesh various things that implying his apparent girlyness.
        • Deftly dealt with by any character informing her that it makes him more of a woman that her.
    • Nicolas assuming Archer is planning on betraying and murdering everyone in the cbox out of habit
