Mai-chan's Daily Life

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Mai-Chan's Daily Life (Mai-chan no Nichijo) is one of the most widely-known (and infamous) works in the " guro" Hentai genre. Written by Waita Uziga in 2004, it became a subject of Memetic Mutation through 4chan and Encyclopedia Dramatica because of two scenes near the end which take High Octane Nightmare Fuel to unbelievable levels.

Mai is a sweet, attractive girl whose life is a living hell. Working as a slave for a cruel mistress, she spends her days toiling as a maid and her nights being raped and tortured by her mistress' wealthy clients. What makes this even worse is that Mai can regenerate any physical damage her body receives, even fatal injuries. Thus, she is routinely burned, bludgeoned, cut up, and otherwise ripped apart purely for the entertainment of various sadistic loons, in addition to the sexual tortures they put her through.

Needless to say, this is extremely NSFW. Additionally, if you have not and don't intend to read this series, and want to not cringe at the thought of sex, childbirth, and eating things out of blenders, DO NOT read behind the spoiler tags.

And remember: what has been watched cannot be unwatched.

Tropes used in Mai-chan's Daily Life include:
  • All There Is to Know About "The Crying Game" -- See Memetic Mutation.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade -- One whole chapter revolves around these. It ends badly for Sayurin.
  • Author Appeal -- All of Uziga's mangas, with one exception, are in the "erotic grotesque" (or "guro") genre which, in most cases, includes combining Gorn with Hentai. Mai-chan is not the exception.
  • Big Damn Heroes -- Kaede impaling the President in the head just as he threatens Mai with A Fate Worse Than Death.
  • Blessed with Suck -- Mai and Kizuna.
  • Blind Idiot Translation -- "The flesh of yourself," among others.
  • Brother-Sister Incest -- Subverted; the only connection between Mai and Kizuna is that they both have the healing factor.
  • Cute Shotaro Boy -- Kizuna.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check -- Kaede owns two human beings who can't die, and can perfectly regenerate from almost any wound, almost instantly if organic material is on hand. Rather than trying to study these people in an attempt to learn the secret of immortality, allowing Kaede herself to become immortal, rich and (with her scruples) practically ruler of the planet...she rents them out as high-priced sex slaves.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death -- Mai's baby. 'nuff said.
  • Cursed with Awesome
  • Dead Baby Comedy -- And at one point, literally.
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Mai gets pregnant and debates sparing her child the life she has, or giving her a chance to just live fully knowing that she will suffer the exact same fate as her mother. Think about it.
  • Evil Foreigner -- The President of "A" Country.
  • Eye Scream:
    • Mai, frequently.
    • Sayurin, one time too many.
    • Kaede, in the final chapter.
  • Fan Disservice -- Any possible instance of Fan Service is undercut by everything else that's happening around it.
  • Fascists' Bed Time -- If Mai misses her curfew, Kaede sends a tiger to fetch her, with predictable results.
  • A Fate Worse Than Death:
    • The President threatens to have Mai taken back to his country to be used as a lab experiment. Shortly thereafter, however, Kaede saves Mai from this by impaling the President in the skull.
    • Mai's life. Period. Her life is a never-ending series of torture and rape, which her child was destined for as well.
      • Mai does seem to be very happy in the end, oddly enough.
  • Gorn -- Oh yes.
  • Healing Factor -- Mai and Kizuna's bodies eventually regenerate any damage done to them, as long as there is at least some tissue left intact. The process isn't instantaneous, and can require a kickstart; in the first chapter, Kaede puts a butchered chicken into Mai's belly cavity, apparently to provide fuel for her regeneration.
    • As a side effect, Mai's body also absorbs foreign organic matter, which effectively renders her barren...until Kizuna is forced by Kaede to have sex with Mai. His semen stays viable in Mai's body because it carries his healing ability, protecting it from Mai's.
  • Heroic BSOD -- Mai has one after Sayurin's death, to the point of amnesia.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard -- The President, thanks to Kaede.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal -- I wonder why...
  • I'm a Humanitarian -- Sayurin's first meal at Kaede's mansion is Mai's flesh, rendered into palatable forms. It takes multiple attempts before she'll eat.
  • Karma Houdini -- All of Mai's tormentors, except for the President, his Secret Service agents, and Kaede.
  • Kill the Cutie -- Mai and Kizuna, over and over and over...except for that whole ultra-healing thing. And then there's Sayurin and Mai's baby.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: President Reitman and his "security detail".
  • Made of Plasticine -- Some of Mai's injuries evoke this.
  • Meido -- Mai's day job.
  • Mind Rape -- The way that Kaede forces Mai to deal with

Sayurin's death.
