• Fan Nickname:
  • "Maximum Wesker" for Phantom Dance, one of Wesker's hypers (where he starts pinballing off the walls), because it resembles Spider-Man's Maximum Spider. It doesn't help that the two characters were revealed at the same time. Lampshaded by Deadpool in his new win-screen quote against Spider-Man in Ultimate.
  • Maximum Vergil - Vergil's Dimension Slash, for the same reason.

Deadpool: "Hey, did you know that Wesker guy stole your Maximum Spider move? You were doing that back in Marvel Super Heroes! So...Gonna go kick his ass? Can I watch?"

• • X-23 aka Moeverine/Moerine/Sex-23.
    • Thanks to Spidey, we now have Wolverette.
  • Poolyuken!
  • Spencer's "BIONIC AAAAAARRRMMM!" is now being labeled as the "BIONIC PAAWWWWWNCH!" Moves will be shown. Yes.
  • Due to MODOK's specialization in "keep away" tactics, people have dubbed him the "Mental Organism Designed Only for Trolling" (or M.O.D.O.T. for short).
    • Also, a widely-used term for M.O.D.O.K.'s powering up when he hits an opponent with his Analyze Cube is "levels of understanding". This is even probably what M.O.D.O.K. himself would call it! Speaking of which, Analyze Cube is often shortened to just "Anal Cube".
  • Cancelling a hyper with X-Factor and performing another hyper has been called "KFC", short for "X-Factor Cancel". Originally "XFC", some posters on a forum commented on the acronym's similarity to "KFC", and the name stuck. Strangely enough, Baroque in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was abbreviated as "BBQ" by the majority of players. One wonders if KFC will be the next Pringles...
  • Sentinel is sometimes referred to in competitive circles as "50Sent."
    • The thing it uses to smash the opponent to the ground when it does an air combo is called by fans the "frying pan".
    • Sent is also referred to as Saltinel (do the math), but whether or not this is meant to be affectionately mocking or spiteful depends on who you're talking to. Its Hyper Sentinel Force hyper is called the Hyper Sodium Force by proxy.
  • Deconfirmation: Fandom's common lingo for "Disconfirmation".
  • CKC, aka Character Kill Combo: Killing one enemy from the full health bar with a single, long combo (using a hyper and/or KFC is optional). Especially easy if you're using Zero, or if the enemy's Phoenix.
  • "MAGGY!" for Magneto, courtesy of Spider-Man.
  • "Doom Rocks", for Doom's Molecular Rocks special.
  • Ammy, an In-Series Nickname in Okami, for Amaterasu. She's also sometimes called Okami.
  • The fans and even the developers themselves call Joe's position of his hands during his Viewtiful God Hand hyper the "Viewtiful Handjob".
  • Chris' Combination Punches special is called "Boulder Punch", because it's believed to be taken straight from that meme (it's not).
  • Getsuga Tenshou for Zero's Genmu Zero (Genmurei). Three guesses why.
  • Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan Lite, or Jill Install for Jill's Level 3 hyper, because they work similarly.
  • Dormammu's Stalking Flare hyper combo is usually just called "Run!" because that's what Dormammu says when he unleashes it.
  • One of Nemesis' punching hyper combo is called "I Ain't Even Mad" due to the properties of the attack.
  • Finger Install for Phoenix Wright's Turnabout Mode, activated via Objection (Forward + H on the ground or Down + H in the air during Courtroom Mode), where he gets a Theme Music Power-Up like Bang proper.
  • Quicksilver (coined by Mugetsu/Rogueyoshi) for a Good Bad Bugs of Dante's which mimics the Time Stands Still-warping Style of the same name he used in Devil May Cry 3.
  • Dark Wesker, Level 4 X-Factor: A Level 3 X-Factor Wesker with his sunglasses off. One of the changes in Ultimate was that, similarly to Lucario, the more damage Wesker takes, he gets a damage and speed boost - the equivalent of a Level 1 X-Factor. This can also be achieved by simply using Phantom Dance / Maximum Wesker. Needless to say, the instant this happens, you have already won or lost depending on whether you're Wesker or not.

• Hey, It's That Voice!:
  • Kate Higgins is the female announcer. The Male announcer is The Young and The Restless' John Driscoll.
  • Fred Tatasciore is The Incredible Hulk, a role he has played since Ultimate Avengers.
  • Steven Blum is Wolverine, a role he's voiced since X-Men Legends. He gets a second character in the form of Taskmaster.
  • Nolan North is Deadpool, a role he's voiced since Hulk Vs.
  • Eric Loomis is Iron Man, a role he's voiced since the Iron Man 2 tie-in game.
  • From Wolverine and the X-Men, aside of Hulk and Wolverine himself, Tom Kane, Tara Strong, Susan Dalian, Jennifer Hale, and Jim Ward reprise their roles as Magneto, X-23, Storm, Jean Grey/Phoenix, and Sentinel respectively.
  • By virtue of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, aside of Hulk and Iron Man, we have Rick Wasserman, Brian Bloom, Wally Wingert, Chris Cox, Loren Lester, and Greg Ellis as The Mighty Thor, Captain America (comics), M.O.D.O.K., Hawkeye, Iron Fist, and Rocket Raccoon respectively.
  • Aside of Wolverine, Charlie Adler reprises his role as Super-Skrull, both by virtue of The Superhero Squad Show.
  • Paul Dobson reprises his role as Doctor Doom, by virtue of Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes. He also voices Shuma-Gorath.
  • Josh Keaton reprises his role as Spider-Man, by virtue of The Spectacular Spider-Man and (as Ultimate Spider-Man) Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
  • María Canals Barrera (Hawkgirl, Theresa Russo) provides the voice of She Hulk.
  • Jonathan Adams, better known to Marvel fans as the voice of Kang in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, voices the final boss, Galactus.
    • Bizarrely, Adams does not reprise his role of Dormammu from the Doctor Strange animated DTDVD. Instead, that part goes to Michael T. Weiss.
  • Ghost Rider is voiced by Richard Grieco, who previously lent his voice to Ghosty back in the Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk cartoons from the 90s.
  • Troy Baker voices Nova.
  • On the Capcom side of things, reprising their roles from Street Fighter IV are Ryu (Kyle Hebert), Chun-Li (Laura Bailey), Crimson Viper (Michelle Ruff), and Akuma (Dave Mallow). On the Japanese side of things, Hiroki Takahashi, Fumiko Orikasa, Mie Sonozaki, and Taketora all reprise their respective roles in the above order.
  • Reuben Langdon and Danielle Burgio reprises their roles as Dante and Trish. Toshiyuki Morikawa and Atsuko Tanaka reprise these same roles from the Devil May Cry anime. For Vergil, Daniel Southworth reprises his role from DMC3, while Hiroaki Hirata does his Japanese voice.
  • Roger Craig Smith and D. C. Douglas reprise their roles as Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker, by virtue of Resident Evil 5. Hiroki Tochi and Joji Nakata are their respective Japanese seiyuu.
  • Sam Riegel voices Phoenix Wright. Wright's Japanese voice actor is Kosuke Toriumi, who voiced Strider Hiryu in the first two MvC games (not to mention Strider 2 and Namco X Capcom), as well as Yuri.
    • Speaking of Strider Hiryu, he's voiced by T.J. Storm, better known to some as Brad Garrison, Agnus, and Josh Stone. In Japanese, his new seiyuu is Yuji Ueda.
  • Dan Woren voices Arthur. In Japanese, he got darrin'd from Fumihiko Tachiki to Tetsu Inada.
  • The three Darkstalkers got darrin'd in Japanese: Yayoi Jinguji (Morrigan), Kae Araki (Felicia), and Michiko Neya (Hsien-Ko) were replaced by Rie Tanaka, Kana Asumi, and Saori Hayami, respectively. In English, they're voiced by Siobhan Flynn, Gina "G.K." Bowes, and Hunter MacKenzie Austin respectively.
  • Kari Wahlgren voices Jill Valentine, becoming The Other Darrin to Patricia Ja Lee.
  • Ryotaro Okiayu reprises his longstanding role as the MMX-era Zero. Johnny Yong Bosch is the English voice for Zero, being The Other Darrin to Lucas Gilbertson.
  • Takaya Kuroda as Spencer. In English, he was darrin'd, from Mike Patton to Dameon Clarke.
  • Kiyoyuki Yanada as Haggar.
  • Viewtiful Joe got darrin'd in both Japanese and English: in the former, Joe's anime VA Tomokazu Seki got the role back from Shinji Kawada (who voiced him in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom), and Darrel Guilbeau takes the role from Dee Bradley Baker.
  • Mayumi Iizuka returns as Tron. In the English version, she got darrin'd by Tara Platt, who took the role from Caroly Lawson.
  • T. J. Rotolo (Dark Specter) returns as Frank West, darrining Peter von Gomm (who voiced Frank in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom). Rikiya Koyama is his seiyuu. Funnily enough, Koyama's the voice of Wolverine in his self-titled anime and the subsequent X-Men anime.
• Playing Against Type: Hiroaki Hirata, who commonly voices Chivalrous Perverts such as Sanji and Gojyo, voices Vergil in this game.
• Relationship Voice Actor:
  • For the Devil May Cry fandom: Zero and Dante are related in some way. Zero is Nero. Also, Jill is Lady and Bael and Dagon are the voice of Ryu.
    • Another for the DMC fandom: Daniel Southworth and Reuben are the Ink Suit Actors of Vergil and Dante respectively in DMC3.
    • In Ultimate, aside of the addition of Vergil, adding Strider Hiryu (T.J. Storm) to the mix also gives us Agnus.
  • For the Bleach fandom: Japanese Zero is Byakuya Kuchiki; Japanese Arthur is Komamura Sajin; Japanese Chun-Li is Rukia Kuchiki; and Japanese Crimson Viper is Sode no Shirayuki (Rukia's Zanpakutou).
    • English Zero is Ichigo Kurosaki; English Ryu is Sosuke Aizen/Ganju Shiba; English Arthur is Byakuya Kuchiki; English Crimson Viper is Rukia Kuchiki; M.O.D.O.K. is Renji; English Chris is Shinji Hirako/Noba; English Tron is Lisa Yadomaru; Enlgish Akuma is Kensei Muguruma; English Chun-Li is Tier Harribel/Mashiro Kuna; Phoenix Wright is Maki Ichinose; and Nova is Jin Kariya/Ganryu.
  • For the Super Robot Wars fandom: Japanese Zero and Japanese Arthur are also the Branstein brothers.
  • For the Power Rangers fandom: Reuben Langdon (Dante) was the stunt double for Wes Collins/Red Time Force Ranger, Daniel Southworth (Vergil) was Eric Myers/Quantum Ranger, Wally Wingert (M.O.D.O.K.) voiced the Psycho Blue Ranger, T.J. Rotolo (Frank West) voiced Dark Specter, and of course, Johnny Yong Bosch (Zero) is known as Adam Park, one of the longest serving cast members in the show's history. Just a shame that Jill's voice actor (Patricia Ja Lee, who was Cassie Chan/Pink Turbo Ranger/Pink Space Ranger) was changed from RE5.
    • Including the Super Legends game, Wolverine/Taskmaster is Lord Zedd, Deadpool is Goldar, and M.O.D.O.K.'s Icthior.
  • For the Tales (series) fandom: by pairing Zero, Chun-Li, and Ryu, you can form a team with Emil, Marta, and Richter.
    • There's also English Jill Valentine, Phoenix, X-23, Hsien-Ko, and M.O.D.O.K. So technically, you can make teams using Raine Sage, Sheena Fujibayashi, Presea Combatir, Celsius, and Remiel.
    • With Phoenix Wright and Nova in UMvC3, you can also make a team with Reid Hershel (by virtue of his two cameo appearances), Flynn Scifo, and Yuri Lowell. Yuri and Flynn can even clash against Alexei (via Wesker).
  • For the Unreal series fandom: Hawkeye and Deadpool are Reaper and Bishop and Spencer is Anubis.
  • With Ryu, Crimson Viper, Zero, Wolverine, Felicia, Chun-Li, and Akuma, you also have Kamina, Yoko, Rossiu, Leeron, Kiyal, Leite, and the Anti-Sprial.
    • With Phoenix Wright, add in Viral.
  • Western fans rejoice. With Phoenix, Wesker, Wolverine, and Hulk, you can have a team consisting of Commander Shepard (Female), Legion, Grunt, and Saren Arterius.
  • You can also try pairing up Wolverine and Spencer, as Blum voiced Super Joe (an ally of Spencer's) in the 2009 Bionic Commando. Or have them duel each other to mimic the actual plotline of the 2009 game.
  • In Japanese, have Dante fight Ryu or have Trish square off with Chun-Li and listen closely.
    • In Ultimate, the same applies to any Japanese Phoenix Wright vs. Strider Hiryu matches.
    • Also add in Japanese Frank West vs. Wolverine matches.
  • This isn't the first time a Josh Keaton-voiced Spidey had to tangle with a Nolan North-voiced Deadpool, the only difference being that it was the Ultimate Marvel versions of said characters there.
    • Speaking of the Ultimate Universe, Iron Fist is Spidey's daddy.
  • Wolverine and Phoenix being voiced by Steven Blum and Jennifer Hale respectively is funny considering their roles in Cowboy Bebop The Movie (Spike Spiegel and Electra Ovilo respectively).
    • The two are also paired up in Bulletstorm (Grayson and Trishka respectively).
  • With Chris up against Deadpool, we effectively have Ezio versus his own descendant Desmond Miles.
  • Zero has a Back-to-Back Badasses moment with Chun-Li in the fourth intro movie. What makes it funny is that, in another universe, they're siblings, so they having an awesome moment together makes it even more awesome.
    • In the English version, Crimson Viper and Arthur are the same way.
  • Chun-Li (famous idol), Storm (cross-dressing detective), and Zero (badass new student) all studied at a school in Inaba while solving a murder spree with Zero leading the team while kicking a certain-cop-turned-murderer in the ass. Funny thing though... A few years ago in that same dimension, Chun-Li (transferee/hot new girl in campus), C. Viper (hot girl in campus who joins the Archery club), and Tron Bonne (rich student council president) were dorm mates at Iwatodai with Tron having another job as an elevator attendant who will OWN YOUR ASS if you are not prepared enough. RAEPIDOLAON!!!
    • That certain cop and Zero have one similar trait; both went crazy: the former due to his boredom as well his excitement of everyone's despair and the latter due to the Eurasia and Sigma Virus...
    • Chun-Li went to Port Island twice... That instance with the blackout thanks to a certain Hermit and as a new student.
    • Nova is going to renovate your ass!
  • In English, having Ryu face Magneto is a bit funny if you've played the PSN/XBLA remake of the arcade game, as the redub has Kyle Hebert voice the Master of Magnet himself (as well as all of the other male characters), complete with the infamous line!
  • Arthur's voice actors, both Japanese and English, have done one certain cha-- What the...? IT'S LU BU!! LU BU HAS COME TO DESTROY US! *AUGH* (4th series only, though.)
  • If you squint long enough, Ken actually appears in this game, as a gun-toting BFS-wielding red longcoat-clad demon hunter.
  • In another universe, Captain America (comics), Spider-Man, Hulk, and Thor are Matt Horner, Valerian Mengsk, Zeratul, and the Dark Voice.
  • On the Cosmos side side we got Zero... On the Chaos side we got Chun-Li... Even though both of them are on opposite sides, they make a pretty nice badass pose during the intro.
  • Sengoku Basara voice actors are also aplenty here. We got Date Masamune (Dante), Sanada Yukimura (Zero), Oichi (Chun-Li and Ishida Mitsunari (Nova), and Mouri Motonari (Phoenix Wright) brawling out.
  • Chun-Li hitting on Nova? Crap, C. Viper is gonna be mad...
  • Use Chris, C. Viper, Chun-Li, M.O.D.O.K., and Nova? Congrats, you can form a team of Sonic, Cream, Blaze/Omochao, Cubot, and Espio. And Tails is even commenting on their fighting!
  • From Haruhi Suzumiya, we have Koizumi (Zero), Taniguchi (Phoenix Wright), Nagato (Crimson Viper), Tsuruya, and Kyon's Sister (Jill Valentine).
  • Thanks to Jill Valentine, Zero, Viewtiful Joe, Crimson Viper, and Wolverine, you can play as Celty, Izaya, Mikado, Anri, and Kadota.
  • Wolverine, Deadpool, Hulk and Magneto were seen fighting endless waves of Nazi Zombies in the past two years.
  • For people wanting to find their Transformers: War for Cybertron kicks, you can play as Starscream, Barricade, Arcee, Jetfire/Zeta Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron/Ratchet/Omega Supreme/Trypticon, and Brawl thanks to Phoenix Wright, Wolverine/Taskmaster, Jill Valentine, Nova, Zero, The Hulk and Deadpool.
    • For more Transformers fun; you can also add Silverbolt/a second Starscream, Tankor/Obsidian/Sideways/Rodimus/Landmine/Overhaul, Side Burn/Mirage, Jack Darby/Tailgate, Sari Sumdac/Red Alert/Strika/Slipstream, Air Raid, and Chase thanks to Super Skrull, Doctor Doom/Shuma-Gorath, M.O.D.O.K., Spider-Man, X-23, Thor, and Albert Wesker. Wolverine/Taskmaster is also yet another Starscream, too.
    • If it's the Japanese version; expect most of these characters to be heard alongside Skids, a different Starscream, Ransack, Soundwave/Mudflap, another Megatron, Hot Shot, Rodimus, a fifth Starscream, Ravage, Depth Charge and Botanica due to Viewtiful Joe, Nathan Spencer, Virgil, Akuma, Albert Wesker, Ryuichi Naruhodou, Dante, Zero, Ryu, Mike Haggar and Trish.
  • For Dawn of War II fans, try pairing up Wolverine and Doctor Doom and you'll hear Cyrus and Gabriel. If you add The Hulk, you'll have The Great Unclean One joining in.
  • How about X-23 and Iron Fist? They're Batgirl and Nightwing.

  • A lot of characters were considered but never made the cut:
    
    For Vanilla MvC3, the development team considered Phoenix Wright, Franziska von Karma, Silver Surfer, Juggernaut, Ghost Rider, all four of the Fantastic Four, most of the Darkstalkers cast (especially Jon Talbain and Donovan), Frank West, Doctor Octopus, Mega Man, Gene, Chuck Greene, a Hunter, Strider Hiryu.
    
    For Ultimate MvC3, Phoenix Wright, Ghost Rider, Frank West and Strider Hiryu finally made the cut, but the development team also considered Black Panther and Blade. And to top it all, all of them (sans Donovan, Jon Talbain and the Hunter) made the cut as cards for the "Heroes and Heralds" mode.
  • In a case of "What Almost Wasn't", Deadpool almost didn't make it in due to a translation error placing him on Marvel's "no go" list. A Capcom translator asked Marvel why a fan-favorite shouldn't be in the game, and the mistake was fixed.
  • DLC was initially planned for MvC3 in the form of the Ultimate version itself (similar to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition), but the tsunami and earthquake in Japan messed with the development schedule. As a result, the planned DLC and some other new additions were refurbished and packaged as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in a disc release.
  • There're also some lines from some characters which didn't make the cut into the game. For example:
    • Some of Deadpool's lines:

"What am I gonna do now that I've won? I'm going to Disneyland, AND I DON'T CARE WHAT THE COURT ORDER SAYS!" "Look at me, ma! Ha ha ha ha ha ha LOOK AT ME!" "Hey, how come I don't get Scarlett Johansson?" "Hey Spidey! Remember how your webbing can't touch windows? Just like how you couldn't touch me?"

• • • Also, Deadpool was said to sing some lines of Michael Jackson's songs to match his moonwalking, but out of fear of being sued, the idea was cut out.
    • Deadpool had quite a number of zingers against Spider-Man, including how Spidey's fighting ability sucks almost as bad as his Broadway musical.
    • Spider-Man's pre-battle line for Ryu:

"Hey, Karate Kid! Ralph Macchio called; he wants his look back!"

• • • This can also be seen with earlier builds of the game. Many of Deadpool's quotes were revised, Iron Man's assist quote was originally "It's on you now." instead of "Excuse me!", Dormammu actually called out "Floating Bomb!" for his Stalking Flare hyper instead of "I summon the power!", and an exchange between Dante and Morrigan (which would have been a Mythology Gag to Nevan's "Well now, aren't you a handsome devil." line to Dante in Devil May Cry 3) was cut, among others. There are also a few unused voice clips found in the Sound Test (such as Zero's reaction to being K.O.-ed via chip damage or a light attack and an alternate victory quote for when Dormammu defeats Shuma-Gorath).
  • A stage based around Okami was considered, but was dropped due to clashes with the art style in the game. The theme for the stage was finished however, and is actually still in the game disc.
