• Alternate Company Equivalent: Hal to Syndrome of The Incredibles, both have somewhat sympathetic reasons for their actions, both are something of a loser, and both eventually end up as an Ascended Fanboy in a different fashion. They'll also do anything to spite whoever has wronged them.
  • The big difference is one is legitimately super-intelligent, and the other is an utter dolt.
• Base Breaker: Roxanne.
• Cult Classic: The film got a devoted following among superhero fans.
• Foe Yay: Like woah between Megamind and Metro Man: Megamind goes into mourning over Metro Man, bringing flowers to his statue and lamenting about all the battles they'll now never have and how it's "not the same" without him.
  • Megamind is visibly relieved Metro Man isn't dead when he sees his cape flying from the explosion, a long moment before his "Oh Crap, he's alive and coming towards me."
  • There's also the scene where Roxanne takes Megamind to Metro Man's hideout. He's practically squeeing at all of the stuff and even puts on Metro Man's cape. Roxanne seems uncertain how to take his reaction.
• Freud Was Right: When he arrived on Earth, Megamind was set to land in a beautiful mansion with a rich father and loving mother.... only to be shunted out of the way by the arrival of Metro Man. They then grow up to be rivals, with Megamind forever trying to 'take' something from Metro Man in return. If you chose to take it all very seriously, one might see shades of an Oedipus Complex.
• Funny Aneurysm Moment: Hal's line, "There is no Easter Bunny, there is no Tooth Fairy, and there is no Queen of England!" became this when Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022.
• Genius Bonus: If you look carefully during the scene where the death ray is firing at Metro Man, you can tell that Metro City is in Michigan. Before automobiles moved in, copper mining was Michigan's biggest industry. Metro Man's weakness is copper. Weaksauce Weakness indeed (if he hadn't been making that up). Probably just a neat little coincidence, but cool if it was intentional.
• Ho Yay: Megamind also has this with Minion, even as a child with the fond looks and gentle touches. Later Minion carries him bridal style into the mayor's office, treats Megamind dating Roxanne like cheating and pretends to be his wife for the ruse on Hal. Also Minion's sole purpose in life is to care for Megamind.
• Ink Suit Actor: Partial example, Metro Man doesn't really look like Brad Pitt, except around the eyes. It's kind of eerie.
• Jerkass Woobie: Megamind before his Heel Face Turn. His villainy is closer to the Poke the Poodle variety, but he still regularly kidnaps someone, threatens them with bodily harm, and (unsuccessfully) tries to kill his nemesis. On the other hand, his planet was destroyed, had a potential family stolen from him by a coincidence, grew up in a prison and was ostracised as a child for (arguably) doing the exact same things Metroman did.
  • Bernard. How would you feel if you woke up in a washing machine after God knows how long, only to get immediately knocked out again by a mechanical fish-ape? Poor guy.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Metro Man did seem at the beginning to be something of a jerk - starting off as a kid, growing up he became a hero and everybody loved him. When I watched the movie the first time, I thought he was going to turn out to be the villain, not the loser Hal.
• Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Megamind, type A.
• Memetic Sex God: Everyone is xenophiliac for Megamind.
• Periphery Demographic: Given how superficial the trailers made the film seem, the target audience looked to be the 6-11 year-old male demographic, but the romantic aspects (which weren't advertised at all) led to a large fanbase of women in their 20's.
• Squick: "Come out you little freak! I wanna see what that BIG BRAIN LOOKS LIKE ON THE PAVEMENT!"
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot/They Plotted a Perfectly Good Waste: As Megamind talks to Minion about who they should make into a hero, and how this hero should be "someone of noble heart and mind, who puts the wellfare of others above their own", he is interrupted by his mobile ringing. It's Roxanne. She is right outside. Because she tracked him down to stop him.
• Ugly Cute: Minion.
• Vindicated by History: The film got better over time for trying something different with superhero parodies.
• What Beautiful Eyes!: Megamind's stunning green eyes.
• Woobie of Mass Destruction: How could anyone not want to give Megamind a hug at least once while watching the film?
