Memetic Mutation/Fan Works

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

You thought memes were strictly limited to professionally published works? Think again.

Please add entries in the following format:

  • The name of the story.
    • Meme name: description of meme and how it's used.
      • Source of meme and fandom it relates to in the form of a hot tip.
      • Famous instances (such as the Rick Roll during the Thanksgiving parade).
      • Further mutations and successor memes, if any.

  1. A legendary Cruel Twist Ending that propelled an insignificant drabble into internet stardom. May even be the very first fanfiction meme.
  2. The most well-known of all Crack Fics, famous for its endless absurdity, in which Goku travels back in time, falls in love with Anne Frank, and fights Adolf Hitler, who becomes a Super Saiyan, prompting this line. And he pulls it off in The Legend of Koizumi, too!
  3. Another legendarily terrible fanfiction that spawned endless memes, this one actually spawned more from the animated version instead of the original text.
  4. A standard disclaimer at the beginning of a vast majority of fanfics, especially those lacking in any originality, and a very good indicator of Unwarranted Self-Importance.
  5. A Running Gag whereby various characters lament Shinji's Memetic Sex God status.
  6. a WH40K Catch Phrase that this Shinji uses in replacement of the original Shinji's Survival Mantra "I musn't run away".
  7. For years Harry Potter fanfiction authors would find it necessary to make Hermione "more attractive", with almost an exact duplicate of these lines used somewhere along the way. So infamous that even Saturday Night Live parodied it.
  8. One person discovered a porn fic in which one of the characters wielded a 42 inch penis, and decided to share this discovery with the internet. Cue endless jokes such as this.
  9. Fans of GB's In Flight created a Harem Badass Clan with Shirou having 24 wives, and 27 children, along with Honorary Uncle and King of Nannies Gilgamesh, in a single generation. Needless to say whenever they appear there will be Loads and Loads of Characters.
  10. From The Shoebox Project, a Harry Potter fanfic that is probably the most famous and critically acclaimed slashfic ever.
  11. Also from The Shoebox Project. Often used on forums to correct people with mad grammar.
  12. A phrase that can be applied to anything related to the fanfic, such as Big Damn Harem or Big Damn Cosplay.
  13. Kuyou's dislike of noodles due to a literal Noodle Incident.
  14. Achakura is always eager to correct someone referring to Nonoko just by name.
  15. Deserving has Harry Potter shout this at Snape after one sex scene. It Makes Just as Much Sense in Context and exists entirely as a set-up for a rather squicky subplot that later gets forgotten by everyone involved, but the hilarity of the line ensured that readers wouldn't be so quick to forget.
  16. Despite his calm, reassuring canon persona, Kingsley Shacklebolt is the largest ham in the fic's World of Ham, yelling thus at Harry in his first appearance. Like the previous, it's usually quoted in ALLCAPS despite not being so in the original.
  17. Hinata learns that Naruto didn't get the It Gets Easier speech from the Ninja Academy's psychological advisor, but was cruelly dismissed as a monster who'd enjoy killing (this happened after Naruto's first kill during a mission). Hinata is outraged...and this was her response.
