  • Complete Monster: Masato in Mermaid's Scar is an adorable little child who happens to be an 800 year old sociopath known for poisoning women with mermaid's flesh in hopes for the Million-to-One Chance that it might make her immortal instead. The "lucky" one who doesn't die an agonizing death doesn't have it much better either, as he tends to punish them by repeatedly killing them. He's tried this on several of his "mothers", with no remorse or feeling whatsoever.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The ending theme for the Mermaid's Scar OVA, Beads of Tears, and the opening theme for Mermaid's Forest, Like An Angel, definitely qualify.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In particular, there's one scene in Mermaid's Face...
  • What Do You Mean It's for Kids?: Despite the quantity of Gorn and Nightmare Fuel, Mermaid Saga was created to the Shonen demographic.
