Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Author's Saving Throw: The original intent behind the cast of Fallen Maidens was to show the audience broken, messed-up characters who could only find happiness in becoming monsters. Unfortunately, possibly due to Author Appeal, the cast then carried their trauma over into their monstrous forms, unhealthily projecting their problems out onto the world rather than growing past them, and making them all hard to root for. Perhaps because he noticed this, later stories set in Lescatier heavily toned-down the initial baggage the cast had.
  • Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy: Recently translated settings info shows us that the Demon Lord is evil, and the only thing the author could do to make her even remotely sympathetic was make the Chief God worse. As a result, well...
    • She's more of a Well-Intentioned Extremist. All she wanted was for the genocidal cycle of monsters and humans instigated by the Chief God to end. As a succubus, her coming up with a plan that revolves around sex is to be expected. And as for the Chief God, she wanted the world to retain balance between the humanoid races and the monsters (she's basically a Malthusian, YMMV on whether that guy was right but still...) So really, it's just two extremists having a "disagreement." They aren't necessarily utterly evil, just misguided.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Though the monsters almost never kill, and the Demon Lord is clearly a Well-Intentioned Extremist who wants her own version of world peace, almost every monster and aspect of the setting is subjected to this trope in some way. Many fans will refuse to acknowledge any negative aspects of their chosen monster (particularly the rape, which is almost always ignored), while others simply try to stay optimistic about the details that are left vague. Amusingly, the author actually had to include a line in the supplemental material explaining that the Order, who oppose the monsters, are not the ultimate evil in the world.
    • On the other side of the coin, you have a good portion of the western fandom siding with The Order due to things such as perceived brainwashing on the side of the Demon lord, the corruption of the Elves and Dwarves leading the latter to be almost extinct, the pending elimination of humanity, and the fact that many think the demon lord is a sue.
    • To be fair, the Dwarves brought it upon themselves. What with the men actively trying to convert their wives into succubi because they like em' horny after a good night at the bar. They ought to have thought it through first.
    • The Order. While the group is composed mostly of kind people, they're a bunch of fanatics who not only would kill monsters, but would also kill any human who sympathizes with the monsters, spread lies and propaganda, have their teachings and influence oppress civilians, launch invasions on any community that accepts monsters as residents, and are supporting the return of an old world system of mutual genocide. Now they may not be the ultimate evil of the setting, but they're not making the situations any better either.
  • Ho Yay: Inverted with the Alp. They used to be Homosexual Incubi, but they wanted to be with men so much, it caused them to forcibly Gender Bend themselves.
  • Les Yay: Considering the source material, surprisingly little. Most monster girls either ignore women or somehow turn human women into their own species, such as Vampires and Succubi . Then again, there's always fanart....
    • Giant Slugs and Zombies are, so far, the only monsters who will as happily have sex with women as they will with men. Although it's stated that the Zombies do so because they're typically too dim to really distinguish between the sexes, while Giant Slugs are responding to old instincts from their pre-Cute Monster Girl form, when they were hermaphroditic.
    • The "contagious" monsters tend to have some shades of this. Succubi are explicitly stated to transform women through sex acts (they drain spirit energy through sex, and a woman becomes a monster when her spirit is completely drained and replaced with demonic energy). The Dark Slime transforms women the same way she has "sex" with men (engulfing them and pleasuring their bodies), the Roper plants its seed through tentacle rape, and the Kiss of the Vampire is probably just as pleasurable for both the vampire and victim when it's used for converting women rather than feeding.
    • Also, hinted canon yuri between Alraunes and Honeybees, since said bees usually have to get pretty close to an alraune to get at their nectar.
  • Mary Sue: The Lilim. Daughters of the Demon Lord, they can turn women into any kind of monster they want, and men fall in love with them on sight.
    • Demon Lord herself transformed every single last monster everywhere into a sex-crazed monster girl. And once she got her hubby, she even wounded a god.
    • Like any succubus, the man can resist if he has enough willpower, it's just rare. After all, how many of us could resist a drop dead gorgeous woman if she came on to us (especially if we're single)? Succubi are already hot, Lillim even more so.
  • Order Versus Chaos: The Order believes in suppressing your own desires, while the monsters simply act according to it. When humans turn into monsters/incubi, their core personality doesn't change, it's just that they won't resist their inner desires anymore (ie. They lose all restraint regarding sex with someone they love).
  • Ruined FOREVER: The English fandom on the Monster Girls Unlimited Forums can be prone to bad reactions towards the ever increasing amounts of corruption present within the setting. Reactions vary from rage at Kenkou, to choosing to ignore the setting altogether, to idealizing the corruption as being in no way a bad thing, to exaggeration of the bad points, to any combination of stated reactions, and more. Acceptance is generally not one of those reactions.
  • The Scrappy: Matangos are one of the few monster girls that could be arguably described as malicious towards humans, being able to forcefully transform and brainwash their human partners through the spores they release in the air before forcing them to mate all the time without stop. Due to being a danger even towards humans who like or are benevolent towards mamono and their nightmare-inducing body transformations, they are one of the least popular monstr girls and you will seldom see someone try to defend them.
  • Squick: The sheer number of monsters that are said to have a diet of human semen.
    • This was actually due to inaccurate translations, with many of the semen eaters (and all soul eaters) actually subsisting on spirit energy. For the sake of a sex pun, the untranslated word used is "sei", which means both spirit and semen, rather than the usual "ki" or "chi". Naturally, they absorb it through sex.
    • According to recently translated material, monsters reach sexual maturity at the age of 10... and have no inherent problems with incest, to the point it's implied that daughters becoming co-lovers of their father alongside their mother is practically the norm.
    • For some (slimes, roaches, etc...) yes, but the smarter ones are pretty big on the whole monogamy thing.
  • Ugly Cute Orc, Cyclops, Gnome, Skeleton, Ghoul.
