Movie Rehab

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Movie Rehab is a web review show created by Jack Skyblue back in 2013. It stars the main character SaG, a critic, who reviews movies of varying quality.

Jack Skyblue is also the founder of Team Night Saturn, a website where other reviewers can post their content. He posts his episodes of Movie Rehab on that site as well.

Jack Skyblue gives updates of his show on his own website, some of his reviews can be found on YouTube (whenever they allow him to), his Deviantart account, tweeting with birds and having a Facebook page.

Tropes used in Movie Rehab include:
  • Accentuate the Negative: The earlier episodes were more about telling jokes while getting angry at the movie, whereas later episodes focused on the reviewing first and the joking later.
  • Adorkable: SaG sometimes acts this way whenever he's enjoying good movies, and his attempts at sounding manly often times feel endearingly goofy.
  • Catch Phrase:
    • "Welcome to Movie Rehab. Are you sane enough to escape the show?" is the catchphrase he opens his reviews with since season 3.
    • "It's almost like this/it's supposed to be a(n) <X> or something!" A snarky remark he occasionally makes whenever, e.g., a movie of a specific genre that seemingly can't decide what genre it is until it manages to settle on one of them.
    • Every-Episode Ending: "I hope you enjoyed this review and at last I've got to say: I may be unfunny, but my points are still valid."
  • Caustic Critic: Zig-Zagged between this and a calmer demeanor, most likely since in earlier episodes Jack Skylue hadn't quite found his footing at that point. He intentionally overexaggerates this with the introduction of the character SaD during his Meet Dave and Religion Inc. review.
  • Cool Shades: He had several ones throughout the series.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Barnabas Thade has a dry and witty tongue. SaG sometimes has these moments as well.
  • Early Installment Weirdness:
    • The first season was mostly filmed with a cheap hd cam with bad lighting and even worse audio. Funnily enough, the first episode had somewhat better audio and better lighting despite being filmed with a SD digital camera.
    • The show was also much wackier in tone during the earlier years but it got more serious with each new episode.
  • He's Back: In the Southland Tales episode, Barnabas returned from a near death experience just in time to save the lives of SaG and Rumpy.
  • It's Been Done: SaG has said he doesn't think he will review Man of Steel since other reviewers (namely Emer Prevost and Cecil Trachenburg) did it before him thinking that he can't add anything new to the table.
  • I Work Alone: One of the very few review shows that hasn't had a reviewer collab yet which is especially amusing considering that the founder of the show also hosts a website filled with reviewers. It remains to be seen how long it's going to last.
  • Kid Appeal Character: Rumpy is the goofiest character on the show who also never swears on this show being a perfect character who wouldn't feel out of place in a children's cartoon show. It's justified considering that he's a character who was originating from the animated kids movie Happily N'Ever After.
  • Nice Guy: SaG and Rumpy.
  • Nice Hat: First a dark grey hat and later a trilby made of the same fabric used for jeans pants.
  • Out-of-Character is Serious Business: It's implied that SaG breaks character everytime he's taking off his sunglasses during reviews.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Necro Critic's review of Van Helsing received a reference with SaG quoting the "The Return of the Vampire Bitches!" line.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": The big G in SaG is not a typo. That's actually how is name is spelled... for some reason.
  • Took a Level In Kindness: SaG started out as a somewhat angrier reviewer but it all changed since the episode in which he reviewed Meet Dave as it revealed that SaG was drugged with pills that triggered his aggression to insane levels. SaG took a huge level of kindness with each new season.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: SaG spoke with a odd accent through the first few episodes of season 3. The reason for being because in another webshow called SaXtras SaG touched a stone that seemed to have screwed around with his mind. Said accent however also eventually disappeared midway through season 3 for reasons yet to be revealed.
