My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic/Recap/S1/E14 Suited for Success/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation: One could easily see the lesson of this episode as "Don't interfere in an artist's creative process." Fits nicely with the Take That mentioned below.
  • Awesome Music: Largely due to Stephen Sondheim's "Putting It Together", of course.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: DJ-P0N3, the DJ unicorn. On screen for only a few seconds doing nothing but bobbing her head and turning on the music. She rivals some of the Mane Six in popularity.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Many have noted that Rainbow Dash's "bad" dress doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the others and is actually pretty cool, if inappropriate for the occasion. This is because despite her insisting to make things cooler, she had the least actual creative involvement and so Rarity managed to make something that was at least tolerable out of her demands.
  • Fridge Logic: Appearantly France exists in the world of MLP.
  • Genius Bonus: Rainbow Dash's costume includes laurel leaves. In Ancient Greece, where the myth of the Pegasus came from, laurel wreaths were given to athletic champions.
  • Memetic Mutation: It needs to be about 20% cooler...
  • Take That: The majority of conflict in the episode stems from too many people providing input into design and creation who are not creators. It might very well be a satire of the entire studio production process. Did you catch that, producers? Sure, we'll introduce more characters with marketable accessories if you like, but just remember that creative works turn out the best when they're driven by the actual creators!
