My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic/Recap/S2/E06 The Cutie Pox/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Anvilicious: The seeds of truth grow when you tell the truth, but only plot-relevant truths apparently.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: In a fandom where every background pony will be named and characterized, it took only a few hours for the community to come to agreement on the name "Allie Way" for a oddly-taller pony in the cold open and fanart to appear. Whether she is related to Vinyl Scratch (due to the similar blue-striped hair and both being unicorn ponies) or Snails (due to the lanky appearance) still seems up in the air.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The fact that Apple Bloom calls one of her tricks "The Hoopla".
  • Nightmare Fuel: An ailment that gives you genius ability but that you are forced to do that indefinitely is a trope that has been used in other works with rather gruesome imagery, including Hans Christian Andersen's "The Red Shoes", the Looney Tunes short, "The Wearing of the Grin", and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "Once More With Feeling".
    • It also occurs in Real Life under the name of "Dancing Fever". In an eerily similar parallel to the original Cutie Pox pandemic, a town in France was wiped off the map by Dancing Fever in 1518. Also like Cutie Pox, Dancing Fever has no cure.
  • Stealth Pun: There's probably a reason why Scootaloo doesn't want the CMC to be named the "Three Strikes"; in bowling, three strikes in a row is often called a "turkey", though in Scoot's case, this is yet another flightless bird she may be confused with.
  • The Woobie: It's hard not to feel sorry for Apple Bloom, considering all she goes through in this episode
