My Little Pony TV Specials Characters

Megan Williams

A young cowgirl who lives on a (normal & not talking) pony farm, one day she finds a pink talking pegasus pony in her well and a duet later she's whisked away on an adventure to save the land ponies.

• Adaptational Badass: Her toy version just seems to be a cute girl in a dress.
• Badass Normal: She fights a dragon off, empty handed, in her initial appearance. This status does not last long, but she still tries.
• Blue Eyes
• Combat Pragmatist: She kind of has to be, given her opposition and Badass Normal status. Tricking a giant crab into losing his balance, blinding the nigh-omnipotent Lavan for a few precious seconds by dropping a drape on his head...
• Deadpan Snarker: Briefly, though you'd probably snark too if a pink pegasus picked you out of the blue and treated you like The Chosen One just because you said you could ride horses.
• Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs: Has a huge pink hair ribbon.
• Farm Girl
• Girliness Upgrade: Sort of. Compared to the pilot she's more feminine and motherly, also the leader of the group.

Spike

A baby dragon who was friends with Scorpan and wants to help out as much as possible.

• Adaptational Attractiveness: Very noticeable, the toy had bucked teeth and pronounced ears.
• Adaptation Dye Job: Purple as a toy. Pink here.
• Adorably Precocious Child
• Charlie Adler
• Era Specific Personality: This Spike was very innocent and child-like. This would return in G4 (although that kid Spike would be more snarky), but in G3 Spike is an adult, although still small.
• Heel Face Turn: Though you could argue he was just Scorpan's Tagalong Kid.
• Real Men Wear Pink: He is pink.
• Our Dragons Are Different: Small, cute, cuddly, and pink.

Rescue from Midnight Castle Characters

Firefly, Pegasus

An adventurous, danger seeking pegasus. When ponies start getting kidnapped, she's the one who seeks out help (Megan) and is part of the rescue team. Despite only appearing in "Midnight Castle", Firefly is arguably the most iconic pony of G1 thanks to Wolverine Publicity.

• Badass Adorable: Kicked a dragon in the face decades before Rainbow Dash.

• Curtains Match the Window
• Expy: FiM Rainbow Dash's personality is based off of her.
• The Lancer: To Megan in the first TV Special
• Firefly Publicity: "Rescue at Midnight Castle" was later rereleased as "Firefly's Adventure", despite the fact she's technically not the main character. She also shows up on a lot of G1 merchandise.
• Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the red to Medley's blue.
• Tempting Fate:

Firefly: I'm going for the double inside-out loop! Medley: But it's dangerous Firefly! Firefly: Danger's my life, Medley! CRASH!

• Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Medley's Girly Girl.
• You Gotta Have Blue Hair

Medley

Firefly's more level headed friend. Doesn't actually go to Midnight Castle.

• I Warned You: Not a spoken example, but boy could she bring out this phrase if she were just a bit less nice. Danger is Firefly's life, and Medley is the one is likely to warn you that a dark, spooky short cut home is not a good idea.
• Cowardly Lion: An incessant worrier who gets easily scared and is quick to run. Still brave and loyal in a pinch.
• Curtains Match the Windows
• The Cutie: Yes, even among others cuties.
• Heterosexual Life Partners: With Firefly.
• Nice Girl
• Team Mom: One of two, actually. The other being Bowtie.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl half to Firefly's tomboy.

Twilight, Unicorn

A motherly unicorn who can teleport by wishing, she joins Megan and Firefly on the quest to Midnight Castle.

• Chekhov's Skill: Near the beginning of the movie, she teleports down from a cliff to the ground. At the climactic scene, she teleports again to escape Tirac's minions and keep them from getting the Rainbow of Darkness back from her.
• Cool Big Sis: To Ember.
• Expy: Twilight Sparkle is based off of her.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: She appeared in a non-speaking role with some of her colors paled, as Twilight's mom of all things.
• Make a Wish: She'd make wishes so that she could do magic.
• Mama Bear: Her protectiveness of Ember is why she joins Megan and Firefly to go to Midnight Castle.
• Multicolored Hair
• Purple Eyes

Bowtie, Earth Pony

An earth pony who joins Megan & Firefly on the quest to save the other ponies, and pretty awesome.

• Badass Adorable: Almost on Firefly's level. She fights off no fewer of the dragons than Firefly does.
• The Big Guy: Of the Five-Man Band
• Born Lucky: She'd have to be. She narrows averts capture four times over the course of a half-hour special.
• Girlish Pigtails
• Hyper Awareness: Both times the ponies are attacked in their own home, she's the first one to spot the in-coming dragons.
• Jump Physics: Of the land bound ponies, Bowtie is the best jumper and is quite skilled at it. She goes clean over the heads of Tirac's guards.
• Overshadowed by Awesome: She's no pushover, herself. She's just not quite on Firefly's level of adorable badassery.
• The Quiet One: is definitely this. She has the fewest lines of the entire speaking cast, but all her lines are important.
• Straight Mare: She is the calmest, most level-headed of the group, and seems to serve as De fact leader before Megan shows up.
• Team Mom
• Tempting Fate: Asks What could happen when they're crossing a very old bridge with sections of board missing. Applejack finds out the hard way.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: Of the Earth Ponies, Bowtie is tomboy to Applejack's Girly Girl, despite looking more like a Girly Girl than the latter..
• Youthful Freckles: On fur, no less!

Applejack, Earth Pony

Is a silly pony. Joins Megan & Firefly on the quest to Midnight Castle. Had a strange encounter with undersea denizens and turned into a dragon.

• The Ditz: Known for not using her "horse sense".
• Era Specific Personality: In My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, Applejack becomes one of the most athletic ponies in Ponyville, compared to her former clumsiness.
• Expy: She has the same design as the first My Pretty Pony

A young filly that Twilight is protective of who gets kidnapped by Tirac's forces.

Tirac, Centaur

The evil overlord of Midnight Castle. Not a nice guy in the least.

• 0% Approval Rating
• Bad Boss: Very bad boss.
• Big Bad
• Casting a Shadow: His Rainbow of Darkness
• The Conqueror: It took the Big Good to stop him.
• Death Glare: A pretty potent one, too!
• Evil Laugh: Has a pretty good one, actually.
• Evil Overlord

• The Faceless: For the first half of the special, he is shrouded in shadows before The Reveal.
• Family-Unfriendly Death: No Disney Villain Death for this guy. He gets torn apart by the Rainbow of Light.
  • After being torn apart, he is destroyed on a giant explosion so the audience clearly gets that he's dead.
• For the Evulz: Pretty much.
• Kick the Dog: Loves doing this to Scorpan, but then The Dog Bites Back.
• Large Ham: BEHOLD, THE POWER OF DARKNESS! NOW BEGINS THE NIGHT THAT NEVER ENDS!
• The Night That Never Ends: The trope namer. Literally, he coined the phrase.
• Obviously Evil
• Off with His Head: threatens to have Spike decapitated if Scorpan fails to get him four ponies to pull his chariot by midnight.
• Our Centaurs Are Different

• The Reveal: When he's finally seen, he is revealed to be a demonic centaur creature.
• Slouch of Villainy: Before The Reveal.
• Take Over the World: OF COURSE!
• This Cannot Be!: When his Rainbow of Darkness is eaten by the Rainbow of Light.
• Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Was once the hailing lord of the trope in My Little Pony media. Now shares the place with Discord.
• Would Hurt a Child: Yes. Yes, he would.

Scorpan

Tirac's dragon, though he's not as bad as he looks.

• Anti-Hero: Type II, after his Heel Face Turn by the end of Midnight Castle.
• Anti-Villain: He's not a cruel or even mean fellow. He's just stuck working with a very Bad Boss.
• Baleful Polymorph: He used to be human, a prince, in fact.
• Dark Is Not Evil: In contrast to his Bad Boss, Scorpan has the face of a demon, and the heart of a hero.
• The Dog Bites Back: Once Tirac has kicked him enough times.
• Even Mooks Have Loved Ones: The angle at which Tirac hits him, which turns out to be a fatal error in judgment.
• Heel Face Turn: When Tirac threatens to kill Spike.
• Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold
• Nice Guy: Yes, very much so, actually.
• Noble Demon
• Noble Top Enforcer
• Papa Wolf: See what prompted his Heel Face Turn above.
• Parental Substitute: To Spike, the Baby Dragon.
• Prince Charming: Sure looks the part once free of Tirac.
• Satan: Was intentionally designed to look like the traditional image of the lord of darkness as a Red Herring to hide the fact that he was a Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold.
• Sour Supporter: It's made clear he has no love for his master very early on.
• The Starscream: With good reason, too. Tirac's pure evil, and Scorpan's not at all.

Escape from Catrina characters

Sundance

More or less the star pony of the second special, she's a tad klutzy, but is a really good jumper.

• Apologizes a Lot
• Chekhov's Skill: She's a great jumper. A fact that ends up saving the life of Baby Moondancer.
• Curtains Match the Windows: Pink.
• The Cutie: Yep.
• I Just Want to Be Special: She thinks very lowly of herself, no thanks to Sparkler. Arguably a much less annoying example than Shady.
• The Klutz: She's great at jumping high into the air, much like Bowtie was. It's landing where she has trouble.
• Walking Disaster Area: In the first few minutes, she manages to almost drown Baby Moondancer, ruin a banner, and catapult a unicorn and Baby Dragon through the air into buckets of paint. By accident.

Sparkler

• Jerkass: Admittedly, we only see her after Sundance has accidentally has ruined a banner she and another pony have worked hard on. Then later catapulted into the air by Sundance which resulted in her being covered her in paint, but she remains very rude and unkind to the poor mare all throughout the special without a single Pet the Dog moment.

Baby Moondancer

Despite an adult Moondancer appearing in the previous special as a background pony, this filly Moondancer gets kidnapped by Catrina.

• Damsel in Distress: As early as her first few minutes in the special. She's accidentally knocked into the river by Sundance (I'm beginning to sense a pattern here) and almost drowns. She's later kidnapped by Catrina and Rep.
  • Crosses into Badass Damsel in that she's kicking and fighting them every step of the way while loudly calling for help to the point where they can barely handle her.
• The Cutie: The other one of the special.
• Not So Harmless: Rep learns this the hard.
• Pimped-Out Dress: Wears a Princess Classic-style one to a costume ball the ponies are holding in Megan, Savior of Worlds', honor.

Catrina

The villain of the second TV special. A cat witch who really likes her witch weed.

• Cats Are Mean and Catgirl
• Drugs Are Bad: Why, yes. Their side effects include random growth in size, insanity, homicidal tendencies, political incorrectness, and lightning shooting from your freakin' eyes!
• Fantastic Drug: Witchweed potion. It increases her magic power several times over, but has the side effect of insanity.
• Interspecies Romance: She's a Catgirl, and her boyfriend Rep is a shapeshifting lizard man.
• Heel Face Turn: Just.
• Hey, It's That Voice!: Broadway star Tammy Grimes who also voiced of Molly Gro from The Last Unicorn is her voice.
• Last Second Chance
• Politically-Incorrect Villain: She seeks slaves.
• Power Source: Witchweed potion.
• God Save Us From the Queen: While still addicted to the witchweed potion. Inverts this after she's off it.
• Took a Level in Jerkass: Thanks to her Fantastic Drug.
• Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Before she discovered the witchweed.
• Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Nowhere near to the extent as Tirac, but still, who would ever have guessed they'd see the day when My Little Pony vs. The Violent Drug Addict?
• With Great Power Comes Great Insanity.

Rep

Catrina's shapeshifting lizard sidekick. Wants to go back to the "good ole days". Voiced by Paul Williams of all people.

• Domestic Abuse: When we first meet Rep, he's very poorly treated by his girlfriend Catrina. She treats him more like a servant and batters him about a few times. The show does not treat this like it's okay.
• Hey, It's That Voice!: Paul Williams. Paul Frikkin' Williams
• Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: He loses a fight to a foal.
  • Before that, he lost a fight to a bunch of harmless little fluffballs.
• Interspecies Romance: A Catgirl and a Lizard Folk shapeshifter.
• Heel Face Turn: Eventually. At first he's too much a sap to stand up to Catrina, but once she starts trying to kill ponies, he finally puts his foot down.
• Lizard Folk: albeit nowhere near as nasty as the usual examples.
• Morality Pet: Tries to be this to Catrina, but he's usually ignored or pushed around.
• Nice Guy: Even more so than Scorpan.
• Reed Richards Is Useless: Rep has the power to change into a form he wants of any size, strength, and weight he wants. Yet he keeps turning into small, easily defeated forms.
• Punch Clock Villain

The Bushwoolies

Small furry dudes who used to be Catrina's slaves, until they decided to high tail it out of there. They help the ponies rescue Baby Moondancer.

• Amazing Technicolor Population

• Prison Break: When they decide they've had enough of being Catrina's slaves. So they all roll through a big freaking hole in the wall leading directly outside into a forest. The Alcatraz Catrina's abode was not.
