My Twinn
My Twinn, the just-like-me doll, are customizable mail order dolls designed to look like their owners. The buyer picks the outfit, eye color, hair color and skin tone of the doll, sends in a photo of the child the doll is for, and the doll’s face is personally sculpted to match (or at least try to come close to matching) the photo of the child. Full-size outfits matching that of the dolls can also be purchased so that owners and their dolls can look even more like each other.
They were made from 1993 to 2016.[1]
Can easily be examples of Uncanny Valley to some.
Tropes used in My Twinn include:
- Follow the Leader: This line of dolls is often accused of doing this towards the “My American Girl” dolls of the American Girls Collection (also customizable dolls).
- Official Cosplay Gear
- The Merch: More clothes, furniture, and other accessories
- Uncanny Valley: A doll that looks exactly like you can be a little unsettling.
