Nabari no Ou/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Hattori, who is killed while trying to protect Ichiki.
  • Complete Monster: The Mysterious Cloaked Guy (revealed to be Inasa). He kills four-year-old Miharu - in a pretty gruesome way, no less.
    • And then Inasa reveals that he's not only another immortal like Aizawa and Shijima, he's also actually Fuuma Kotarou...who's been tricking, playing with and manipulating everyone from the start because he won't let anything stop him from possessing his "lovely Shinra-san", though as he said, and Aizawa admits, he has been telling everyone all along that he wanted the Shinrabanshou...
    • Ichiki also qualifies after she kills Hattori while he tries to protect her from an apparent assassination attempt without a shred of remorse.
    • She did thank him with a rather heartfelt speech afterward, though.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Yukimi's a pretty awesome guy, but you realize that he's just outright badass when he's fighting Kasa's Makoto and Itsuwari; his arm's severed clean off, but he still smashes Itsuwari right into the ground, and then proceeds to take his gun from his own discarded hand and shoot Itsuwari in the head, point blank, complete with an awesome One-Liner. Then, to seal it off with a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming, he's ready to Go Out with a Smile, since he feels that Yoite at least got to really 'live.'
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Yoite/Miharu, Raikou/Gau, and Kouichi/Raimei.
  • Fanon: The fans seem to like making Raimei a Yaoi Fangirl, or at least a Shipper on Deck for Miharu and Yoite.
  • Fan Yay: Somewhat unsurprisingly, the series has a sizable LGBT fanbase.
  • Fashion Victim Villain: Raikou for sure, except for the outright "villain" part. His work clothes include something like a denim vest, a hakama over jeans, and sandals. His casual clothes are canonically recognized as really, really, really terrible. He has seriously considered buying a coat of gold sequins. And one with giant stars across it. And has worn a shirt with huge feathers hanging off the back.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: Among other things, 4-year-old Miharu getting his face blown off and Asahi's body falling to pieces.
  • Het Is Ew: Some fans were freaked at the possibility that Yoite could be a girl.
    • Subverted with Kouichi/Raimei being pne of the general fan preferred pairings.
  • Memetic Molester: Hattori may have risen to this, thanks to all the. Neck-touching. And his 'praise' of Yoite.
  • Memetic Mutation: Gay-I mean, Gau!
  • Moral Event Horizon: Fuuma killing four-year-old Miharu.
    • Raikou nearly crosses it when he tries to kill Raimei, only to be stopped by Gau.
  • The Scrappy: Tobari is easily the least popular of the main characters.
  • The Woobie: Yoite.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Tobari might qualify [Tobari is arguably one of the nicest characters in the series. He does his best to protect those he cares about and refuses to kill enemies. Hell, he's even seen patching up his enemies after fights in the Alya arc. But...after a ten year silence on the past in which his loved ones are killed right in front of him, then finds out their murderer was actually Fuuma who was manipulating everyone all along, then to have Fuuma activate the Shinrabansho...Tobari, while bleeding to death himself, snaps and kills Fuuma by stabbing him through the neck and slicing through.
