Nekopara Vol. 1

Nekopara Vol. 1 is the first installment in the Nekopara Visual Novel series. It introduces Chocola and Vanilla, who help their new owner Kashou with his bakery shop La Soleil. The synopsis is as follows:

Kashou Minazuki, the son of a long line of Japanese confection makers, moved out to open his own shop "La Soleil" as a patisserie.

But upon moving out, hidden amongst his things were two of the catgirls, Chocola and Vanilla, that the family had been raising. When he tried to send them back, they begged and pleaded until he gave in and now they've opened La Soleil together.

With two catgirls who really, REALLY love their master trying their very best and occasionally failing -- a heartful comedy opens for business!

An anime OVA adaptation was released in December 2017 which adapts this installment. This featured characters that were a part of a top-tier kickstarter rewards program who appeared only for a few seconds (only one character has a voiced line).

Tropes used in Nekopara Vol. 1 include:

Adapted Out: Milk and the Taoyaki Stand is completely absent from the OVA.
And Now for Someone Completely Different: When Kashou gets sick, the POV changes to Chocola and Vanilla as they try to get help for him.
Epic Fail: When the other Minaduki catgirls try to prepare Chocola and Vanilla for the bell test, Kashou is... less than impressed.
For Your Own Good: The reason why Kashou initially is determined to send Chocola and Vanilla back home is because he believes they would be better of there instead of with him, when he's not even sure if he would be able to survive on his own.
Hopeless Suitor: Shigure is surprisingly aware that she is this to Kashou for obvious reasons. She considers letting him go before deciding that it would be fine for him to hook up with their catgirls if only for her to live vicariously through them.
Mate or Die: Chocola and Vanilla say to Kashou that their species will go extinct if he doesn't mate with them... which turns out to have been a lie suggested by Shigure.
Pimped-Out Dress: Chocola and Vanilla wear a Gothic Lolita version of this on their trip to the amusement park.
Please Don't Leave Me: Chocola refuses to leave when Kashou told her to, with she and Vanilla wanting to stay with him.
