All of the 3DS's shortcomings are intentional.

People have been crying foul at things like its poor battery life and lack of proper network features out of the box. There are several reasons why these can be helpful for Nintendo in the long run:

    • They're adamant about keeping small children from playing with the 3D effect on and for those who can play it to not do it for too long at once. The bad battery life is an Anti-Poopsocking feature out of concern for the consumers' safety until empirical evidence convinces them that it's not that big a deal after all.
    • The shop isn't open yet because they don't want hackers going at it right away. The DSi shop had a game removed in January 2011 because hackers found an exploit based on it.
    • We all know that they're going to release an improved model, so they got a few things suboptimal on purpose so that the 3DS Lite will look like that much more of an improvement. They don't want to repeat the supply shortage fiasco with the Wii, so they've curtailed demand a little to sharpen the contrast between those who have played with it and those who have a number of perceived problems with it.
      • The main point of the DS Lite was to make the original DS smaller and give it better screens. As the 3DS is already approximately the same size as the D Si, there's no argument based on the size of the device, nor is there an argument based on screen quality as it uses better screens than the D Si, which, in turn, used better screens than the DS Lite. In fact, the only arguments in favor of a second model are history and the weak battery life, which is no worse than the PSP's battery, which has far fewer people complaining about despite the PSP's other battery problem of being unable to hold a damn charge. So, no, it is NOT a given that they will release an improved model. Not to mention that, while it is mostly forgotten now, there were people who criticized the DS Lite for being a marginal improvement in contrast to the complete overhaul that was the GBASP.
    • The small count of launch games is quality control. They want to make sure that the first games that use the 3D will leave a good impression on buyers. Too many games available at once is risky for them since there's a greater chance that most of them will not use the 3D optimally.

There will be a Custom Robo game using AR cards and the 3D camera for IRL robo fights

Because you know it'd be awesome.

    • I agree, that would be amazingly awesome! I hope they do that!

Nintendo still won't ever touch the EarthBound franchise on the 3DS because...

...think about EarthBound's legendarily trippy battle backgrounds. Now picture those on better hardware, or more importantly, in 3D. Yeah. No-one's body is ready for stereoscopic colour-shifting and undulating, especially if it's done well... which it certainly would be given what games we're talking about here. (n.b. this is ignoring every other reason theorised to be behind EarthBound remaining untouched which I'm not getting into here and is irrelevant to the point of this)

A 3DS Castlevania will finally deal with the battle of 1999

The title will include "1999" with the 9s stylized to look like d/D.
