Noein/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Critical Research Failure The quantum physics technobabble strays past the border of Dan Browning and into this on a couple of occasions.
    • The people from Lacryma's future don't all come from the same present, but didn't hop realities or anything to get there.
      • Dimensional convergence. It was happening to both Shangri-La and La'Cryma. Therefore multiple pasts end up crossing into the same future.
    • Midway through the series Karasu becomes concerned that the other future has broken causality and now the future might be able to influence present events. Despite Karasu himself being from the future and having influenced the present plenty from the very beginning of the series.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome (Pretty much the entire series has orchestral background music, Ominous Latin Chanting and all.)
  • Ensemble Darkhorse (Atori, and to a lesser extent, his androgynous partner Tobi)
  • Fridge Brilliance: The story isn't about Haruka at all. It's about Yuu deciding who he wants to be.
  • Fridge Logic: There are an infinite number of dimensions which are produced from every possibility in every moment in time. Central to the plot is a future event in another dimension which will destroy all dimensions in the multiverse. Shouldn't the universe have already ceased to exist? [1]
  • Memetic Mutation: "Hey, Haruka! GET AWAY FROM THAT WALRUS!"
    • "C-Crispin Freeman! Get out of my bedroom!"
  • Narm: Much of Noein's (the character) atmosphere and aura were betrayed by the way he fought Yuu and Karasu in around episode 20 which involved him perfoming a Hurricane punch and a Hyakuretsuken.
    • The English dub would probably be a lot better if two of the main characters weren't named "Ai" and "Yuu." It gets...confusing.
      • It makes for some pretty awesome lines, though. "I am you/Yuu", "Because you're Yuu/you", etc.
  • Nightmare Fuel (The forces of Shangri'La fall squarely in the Uncanny Valley)
  • Wangst (Yuu, though he eventually gets over it)
