Nora Roberts is not merely the romance novel genre's best-loved author -- she is a publishing phenomenon. Roberts has over 200 works in print, from novellas written during her category romance days (beginning with Irish Thoroughbred in the 1980s) to mainstream mystery/romance novels (High Noon, Blue Smoke, Black Hills) to lighthearted pure romance (the Brides quartet) to a Twenty Minutes Into the Future straight-up mystery series (...InDeath, writing as J.D. Robb).

Her name has become synonymous with romance at its finest, and most women have at least heard about her.

Nora Roberts provides examples of the following tropes:
  • Dark and Troubled Past
  • Freudian Trio: The heroines of her trilogies frequently form one in the persons of a sweet, motherly woman as Ego, a tough and tomboyish woman as Superego, and a fiery, glamorous woman as Id. Examples include former model Margo (Id), CPA Kate (Superego), and mother of two Laura (Ego) in the Dream trilogy, and Nell (Ego), Ripley (Superego), and Mia (Id) in the Three Sisters Island trilogy, among others.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Between 1987 and 1995 Roberts released a string of novels (unconnected except by genre) with titles like Sacred Sins, Honest Illusions, and Public Secrets.
  • Time Travel
  • Urban Fantasy
