The eighth in the series of the Wild Cards novels by George R. R. Martin. One-Eyed Jacks follows Jerry Strauss, the Projectionist in his investigation of a group of seeming Wild Card Aces called "Jumpers." It is the first anthology after two mosaic novels. It is also the first book of the "Jumper Trilogy".
Not to be confused with the 1961 film of the same name.
Tropes used in One-Eyed Jacks (novel) include:
- Adorkable: Jerry Strauss. Mark Meadows to a certain extent.
- Big Bad: Blaise, the Bloat
- Bury Your Gays: Veronica's girlfriend.
- Hooker with a Heart of Gold: Veronica.
- Incompatible Orientation: Veronica and Jerry.
- Inspirationally Disabled: Sprout.
- Jump the Shark: A lot of fans believed the entire Joker trilogy was this.
- Lipstick Lesbian: Veronica.
- Miscarriage of Justice: Mark Meadow's daughter Sprout being taken away from him after he heroically rescues people as Jumping Jack Flash.
- Values Dissonance: A mild one. At the start of George H.W. Bush's Presidency, the writers seem to be assuming he's going to be one of the most oppressive Presidents in history.
- Villainous Breakdown: Sunflower suffers one of these when she realizes Jumping Jack Flash is her ex-husband Mark and she just slept with him. She's not exactly a villain, though.
