Oreimo/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Oreimo are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Awesome McCoolname: Kirino's literary agent's name is Iori Fate Setsuna. Even Kuroneko states that it is an awesome name.
    • However, novel Fate doesn't like to be called that precisely because it's like a name out of a novel.
  • Ear Worm: The opening theme. [dead link]
  • Fan Dumb: See Internet Backdraft below.
  • Fan Hater: Kirino fans tend to also like Kuroneko for the most part. Kuroneko fans tend to really hate Kirino, which results in Kirino fans hating Kuroneko fans for hating Kirino, despite largely liking Kuroneko themselves. Then you get the Kirino haters who don't much like Kuroneko either...It's as headache inducing as it sounds.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Episode 8 is about a light novel being made into an anime. Ore Imo is a light novel that was made into an anime. In the episode they discuss "making each opening and ending different" and indeed each episode has a different opening and ending. The author also turned down the first offer to make this franchise into an anime. See also Adaptation Decay on this page.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The in-universe mahou shoujo anime Stardust Witch Meruru is stated to be intended for girls between five and ten but its predominant fanbase is made up of males in their twenties. Two years later, My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic was released.
  • Internet Backdraft: There was a rumor started that Volume 8 had Kyousuke dumping Kuroneko and her being put on a bus, which led to some fans tearing up their novels before they'd even read it. If they had read it however, they would have found that Kuroneko's the one who dumps Kyousuke, and she isn't moving away permanently, but won't be going to his school anymore either. Red faces all around. Some fans who tore their novel up even went so far as to fix it with sellotape or similar means.
    • And the ending... it makes the incest canon. While some fans celebrated the wincest with delight, a sizeable majority thought the ending went far beyond mere Ship Teaseing, which is what most Incest Yay fans are comfortable with.
  • Les Yay: Ayase towards Kirino; Kirino's love for little sisters.
  • Moe: Actually a plot point, since it's what turned Kirino into an unlikely fan of H-Games.

Kirino: They [little sisters] look so pure, you just want to protect them, or hold them tight!

Kyousuke: EROGE ISMY SOUL!

  • Nightmare Fuel: Ayase! Don't mess with her unless you WANT to trigger her Yandere Mode
    • It's worse in the PSP Visual Novel. Her Bad Ending consists of her stabbing Kyousuke to death. Her Nightmare Face and Madness Mantra before that don't help. Sweet dreams.
    • Kirino manages to outdo even Ayase in an If route of the same Visual Novel, being turned into a yandere Green-Eyed Monster by a wish Akagi made concerning little sisters, with Kyousuke implied to have been crippled or killed by her to keep anyone else from seeing her precious Onii-chan.
  • The Scrappy: Despite being the title character, a number of fans are very put off by Kirino's extremely selfish and Jerkass behavior and that she gets practically everything she wants despite her extremely poor treatment of Kyousuke, who is practically throwing away any chance to be seen as normal for her sake. This reaction tends to vary between fans coming from the anime (where her tsuntsun bad behavior is kicked Up to Eleven), the Light Novel source which is more evenly balanced, and the manga where her words aren't as harsh and her mannerisms are much more deredere in response to Kyousuke's actions.
    • This is actually intentional as even characters in the novel think the same thing, but tend to see the glass half full and that Kirino is, while annoying, still important to them.
    • Ayase's extremely judgemental nature of Kirino's hobby has earned her numerous haters even among those who also consider Kirino a Scrappy. Like Kirino, she's grown out of this, and her scary moments, when they show up, are always played for laughs or d'awws after the initial conflict is resolved.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: One is for Brother-Sister Incest, the other is against. Within the latter groups, there are fans for Kyousuke-Manami (who consider her the most sane and normal of the choices) against fans for Kyousuke-Kuroneko/Ayase/other girls (who are seen as the more interesting choices).
  • Values Dissonance: To a lot of Western viewers, Kirino and Kyousuke's dad could be considered abusive. In addition to being cold to his children, at one point he punches Kyousuke in the face strong enough to knock him down. In addition, Kyousuke's mother has a fairly hands-off approach to child-rearing, although this isn't nearly as controversial. She only steps in when she mistakes the fake-dating ploy for an incestuous relationship.
  • What an Idiot!: Kirino, if you hadn't left your eroge in plain sight when leaving for your offline meeting in episode 3, your hobby wouldn't have been endangered by your father walking into your room, and neither you nor Kyouskue would've suffered any injuries (the fact that you nearly attacked your own father with a crystal ashtray probably provoked him to assault you regardless).
