Our Little Adventure/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Here are some tropes about Our Little Adventure which are debatable

  • Non Sequitur Scene
  • Complete Monster: A whole cult of ones, who happily slaughter a whole villages to the last man, woman and child. Bulldozing towns and killing their residents seems to be a growing trend of the evil organization(s) of this comic.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Terramycin and Daytranna Shadowleaf.
  • Goddamned Bats: Most of the "treasureless encounters", such as giant spiders. This fight against them may be turning into demonicspiders though.
  • Growing the Beard: The comic really begins to find its groove about ninety or so pages in. The characters' traits are mostly established, the comic is prettier than before, and the story starts to take off.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The second minotaur the group fights as it does kill Pauline and put Julie into a Heroic BSOD. The minotaur itself however doesn't seem like an important character otherwise.
  • Mood Whiplash: The group travelling peacefully along at night while the stars and surroundings are beautiful and serene. They decide to stop in an abandoned barn to camp and find it quite dark in there. Julie uses a light spell to reveal bodies hanging from the rafters. Then the bodies come to life, smile quite evilly at them, and attack them.
  • Scenery Porn: The comic looks to be done with a vector graphics program like Adobe Illustrator. This can allow for resizing graphics without losing detail. As a result, some of the city/area Splash Panels that show Everwood, Huckleton, or Brian and Angelo's Castle can get quite detailed and intricate.
    • As the comic progressed, the wilderness landscapes became more and more lush and detailed. Some might consider it a bit busy at times though...
  • Tear Jerker: Pauline's death and events following it, including Julie's emotional state, desperately clinging to the notion that Pauline could be raised, and Angelika hugging and comforting Julie when the raising fails. Angelika even cries after lighting Pauline's funeral pyre with Scorching Ray.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks: The comic isn't advertised as much as it should be. Many who have read this comic enjoy it, (OotS fans included) but its creator stated to a reader that he was worried the Giant's less pleasant fans would attack it unfairly.
    • Someone did just that. However, other people in the forum decided to read some of it for themselves. They came to the conclusion that besides being the same genre of comic, Our Little Adventure really wasn't the same thing.
  • The Woobie: Poor, poor Lenny. Often serving as the Straight Man to the other character's jokes, often being treated meanly by Angelika and Rocky, and having the job of lugging the party's swag around like Nodwick.
  • What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids?: It's got a somewhat cutesy, simplistic style and is often brightly colored, but the comic has some crude language in it, and the battles can get surprisingly violent.
