Paradise Kiss/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Abandon Shipping: Arashi/Miwako was quite popular, until his possessiveness became more pronunciated. And when the Rape Is Love angle was revealed, well... However, many fans still seem to see him as a good boyfriend...
    • The manga makes it obvious that he's not possessive, he's just extremely insecure, feels horribly guilty about the rape and is constantly afraid that Miwako will leave him for someone "better" (ie. Hiro). It's clear that after Hiro sets him straight about Miwako's feelings for him and he realizes that Miwako loves him for who he is, he becomes more confident and his attitude improves. (In fact, he and Miwako end up marrying and having a baby.) Not that you'd know this if you've only seen the anime.
  • Non Sequitur Scene: the anime adaptation is padded to the brim with them.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Isabella's birthday.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: in the manga, Yukari questions Isabella's biological gender pretty soon (she's dressed as a woman, but is absurdly tall and completely flat-chested). In the anime, they favored a more ambiguous (or should we say, direct) approach, giving Isabella a female voice actor.
