The TV Repairman wanted David and Jennifer to change things in Pleasantville

Think about it. Even though he twice showed dissappointment when David and Jennifer both intentionally and unintentionally do things causing the town to go Technicolor; he however does nothing about it. So maybe he is Trickster Mentor who wanted to both help the Twins and the Town out. Making his rants less of a demand and more of Reverse Psychology.
