Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Complete Monster: In the movie, Marcus's motivation for killing Arceus is due to a misguided belief that if Arceus leaves with the Jewel of Life, his hometown would be doomed to rot. In the manga adaptation though, he's a completely self-absorbed asshole who wants to steal the jewel in order to become that era's god and wants Arceus dead so he won't interfere with his grand plans. And to that end, he hypnotizes Damos into betraying Arceus, brainwashes Damos's Pokémon into fighting for him against their will by forcing mind-controlling armor on them, physically abuses his Heatran for refusing to follow orders, and of course attempts to murder the 10 year old Ash Ketchum and his friends when they interfere with his plans. And unlike his movie incarnation, he doesn't get redeemed: he commits suicide in a last-ditch effort to kill Arceus.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight - When Sheena tells the heroes about a legend involving a young trainer with an electric Pokemon, Dawn automatically assumes it's referring to Ash. He isn't so quick to agree however, probably because of what happened the last time he Jumped At the Call.
  • Narm - Thunder creature? Really? Sheena couldn't just say "Electric-type Pokemon" or even Pikachu?!
    • Back then, they hadn't even coined the word "Pokemon". "Magical creature" was the term of the day.
      • But that doesn't explain why she couldn't say "Pikachu".
    • For some, Arceus' English voice is built out of Narm. Dan Green should have voiced him, not Damos.
      • It may not help, but a certain Fridge Brilliance makes sense why Dan Green didn't voice him. Dan Green only voiced Mewtwo (the made-for-Tv movie), and the Illusion Entei from the 3rd movie. Why are they special and the others aren't? Because both Mewtwo and Entei were created by humans. It means that Dan Green is the voice people want legendaries to sound like, not how they normally sound.
