Power Blonde

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Strong blonde women aren't always evil. Sometimes, they're ambitious, wise, strong (even ruthlessly, but on the good side), rich, super smart, and overall confident. We can tell who is blond at heart because she doesn't try to hide behind anyone or anything. Often, a superheroine can be found in this trope because of how admirable she is in her universe for her power and sex appeal. She may be The Fashionista, but how she looks is just to bring attention to what she does. One thing's for sure, the power blonde is not the Girl Next Door. Can be among Plenty of Blondes.

Examples of Power Blonde include:

Anime and Manga

  • Fate Testarossa from the Lyrical Nanoha franchise is a former Dark Magical Girl, who is counted among the most powerful aerial combat mages of the multiverse and works for the Time-Space Administration Bureau in the position of an Enforcer, giving her about as much personal authority in any dimension under Bureau's jurisdiction as a single human can possibly carry.
  • Ai no Kusabi has the ruling class of "Blondies" as male examples. The top Blondie, Iason Mink, fits this to a T.
  • In Princess Principal, Princess Charlotte acts in public in a way that encourages people to mistake her Power Blonde hair for Hair of Gold. It wouldn't do for anyone to know her political aspirations.

Comic Books

  • Every Supergirl, from Kara Zor-El to Matrix to Linda Danvers, is drawn as a blonde. Power Girl, her Earth-Two counterpart, is almost a literal example of this trope.

Film

  • Sue Storm, "The Invisible Woman" from Fantastic Four, is the chief genetics researcher.
  • Andie Anderson from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is sexy, cool, fun, smart, and beautiful.
  • The cool, blond Barbara Novak from Down With Love is a role model for women everywhere.
  • Played for laughs in My Super Ex-Girlfriend with the superheroine G-Girl, who is naturally (thanks to an asteroid) blond but hides it behind a wig as her normal self.
  • In Uptown Girls, Rae Schleine is a spoiled 8-year-old who gives her nanny a “News flash! You're working for me,” as well as her mother, Roma Schleine, who is a well-known record company owner.
  • In the film version of A Wrinkle in Time, Mrs. Witch is dressed in a gold dress with curly blond hair, despite the fact that an appearance was not specified in the book. She is the wisest of, and the clear leader of, the three immortal women.
  • Elle Woods is a force to be reckoned with at the end of Legally Blonde once she's taken Harvard by storm.
  • Rapunzel of Tangled has long blonde hair which has the power to heal the sick and injured.

Live-Action TV

Professional Wrestling

  • None other than the seven-time Women's Champion and Diva of the Decade, Trish Stratus (though she's a brunette now).
  • Really, most of the blond WWE divas end up beloved at some point. Famous ones include Sable, Debra, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, and Terri Runnels.
  • Once they turned face, The Beautiful People in TNA: Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, and Lacey von Eric.
  • Invoked by Molly Holly when she did a Face Heel Turn, as she darkened her blond hair to brown in order to fit with her new character better.

Video Games

  • The Alexandra sisters, Sophitia and Cassandra, from the Soul Series.
  • Nina Williams from Tekken is the only woman to have appeared in every game and even got her own spin-off game.
  • Fiora from Xenoblade. One of the few JRPG examples.
  • Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy.
  • Queen Anora of Dragon Age, while she can be underhanded and even ruthless at times, is an assertive, politically astute woman, well-loved by the people, and was the real power in Ferelden during Cailan's five-year reign. And if you choose her as ruler at the Landsmeet, she proves to be a good one.

Web Comics

Western Animation

  • Applejack from My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic.
    • Megan from the original show too, if it comes to that. She could fight, she was quite able to take charge of the situation no matter the crisis, and she was a strong enough negotiator to get a good deal even when bargaining from a position of weakness.
  • Stella from Winx Club counts. Smart (though lazy), extroverted, loves fashion, is a rich princess, and will go through hell and back if it means helping her friends when they're in need.
