• Complete Monster: Severin. Look under Moral Event Horizon for an example of his cruelty.
• Crowning Moment of Awesome: Hime has too many to list. Hiro, as of chapter 47 is stepping up. Hime gets sent 9 years in the future and that version will inevitably die if he saves the present. What does he do? He goes into undead mode and swears to exceed the future. He then proceeds to do so.
  • One of Hime's greatest comes in the manga when Kinski believes he has killed her and is en route to procure her blood so that he can continue to live. Upon reaching the mansion, though, Hime, very much alive, informs him that he may not come in.
• Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: In chapter 14, Hime and the others find a mermaid who exchanged her voice to become a human and could not leave a ghost ship because she could not swim and could not call for help. What makes it especially saddening is when the child runs into Hime's arms crying. In the end Hime's brother saves the mermaid after she is forced to return to the sea and makes her semi-immortal.
• Damsel Scrappy: Averted completely for Sawawa, thankfully, which is unusual for someone with a Weirdness Censor.
• Evil Is Sexy: Severin and Sylvia.
• Fetish Fuel: Riza's arms, Keziah's near permanent shirtlessness, Reiri's eating habits and panty shots, the fact that Sylvia enters the story proper Bound and Gagged and the very concept of blood warriors.
• Mind Game Ship: Sylvia to Hime.
• Moe: Hiro, Flandre, Mermaid and Riza, sometimes.
• Moral Event Horizon: Arguably two - the first being the unknown mage who suggested the legs-for-voice swap to a mermaid, and used her to power his ghost-collecting ship, and the second being when Severin unleashes the Zombie Apocalypse on a town just to kill Hime.
  • Sylvia's are when she turns Emil into a blood warrior and lets him loose on his former subordinates. She also kills Hime in the Bad Future.
• Nightmare Fuel: There's buckets of it everywhere in this manga but the whale bus is of the more mundane sort.
• The Scrappy: Hiro is absolutely detested by the fans, who can't seem to stop complaining about him being a useless coward, completely ignoring that he's just a little boy, and even despite this he acts unusually brave, but lacks the superhuman strength of everybody else. Some are willing to go so far as to imply that he's also selfish, and the only reason he's willing to risk his life for Hime is because 1) he knows he can't die and 2) if Hime dies, he loses his immortality. It isn't helped by the fact that the TV anime ended just before the point where Hiro starts to show more ability in the manga.
