Basic Trope: A villain who only does bad things while at work.

  • Straight: Jason robs banks for a crime boss, but is not really a bad guy out of work.
  • Exaggerated: Jason is a Complete Monster, but is a nice guy when not at work.
  • Downplayed: Jason's job limits mostly to Poke the Poodle.
  • Justified: Jason doesn't like being evil, but the good guys weren't hiring.
  • Inverted: Punch Clock Hero
  • Subverted: Jason's actually more evil when he's off the clock.
  • Double Subverted: That's just an act. He wants people to stay away from him because of his day job.
  • Parodied: Jason is the nicest guy ever until he literally punches the clock.
  • Zig Zagged: Jason is evil when not on the job somedays, other days he' nice.
  • Averted: Jason is evil during and after his job.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "It's OK, Jason won't hurt us. It's his day off."
  • Invoked: Jason, a Nice Guy is looking for a job. In the classified ads, he sees a job that involves evil deeds. Since he doesn't qualify for other jobs, and since it pays well, he chooses it.
  • Exploited: The heroes interrogate Jason, knowing that he's willing to give out information.
  • Defied: Jason refuses to work for the Big Bad.
