RWBY/Recap/Trailers/P1 Red Trailer

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
< RWBY‎ | Recap‎ | Trailers

A girl dressed like Little Red Riding Hood stands before a cenotaph in the snow, before turning around and trudging through a stand of trees, to the accompaniment of dreamy music and an angelic voice singing about four colors. When she exits the woods, she is confronted by a monstrous pack of slavering hybrid wolf-human creatures. As the music switches to something like classical Spanish guitar they attack her, and she dismembers, decapitates and shoots nearly a hundred of them using a folding scythe that is also a gun. At the end she stands alone, unharmed, amidst a shower of spent shells.

Tropes used in RWBY/Recap/Trailers/P1 Red Trailer include:
  • Early Installment Weirdness:
    • The beowolves are a very early design, and lack the white and red bony plates and spikes exhibited in the series. This was later Hand Waved by describing them as weaker, "young" beowolves.
    • Ruby's costume lacks her distinctive rose emblem; the large version hanging from her belt in the series is a cross in the trailer.
    • Ruby herself seems very calm, cool and collected, at odds with the somewhat hyper personality she exhibits in the series.
    • A dead beowolf evaporates into rose petals rather than into a black mist.
  • Foreshadowing: Ruby decapitates a beowolf in exactly the same manner as she would later decapitate a giant Nevermore in V1E8.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The beowolves are disturbingly humanoid.
  • Off with His Head: Ruby decapitates at least one beowolf on-screen.
  • Petal Power: Where Ruby goes, rose petals follow.
  • Spent Shells Shower: As Ruby comes to a stop after finishing off all the beowolves.
