Rance/Characters/Unafilliated Monsters

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

This page regroups various Monsters who are not part of the Monster Army, preferring wandering alone, unaffiliated with any faction.

The Four Holy Gal Monsters

The mothers of the Third Generation monsters. Every monster of that generation can trace its lineage back to one of them. Though called "Gal Monsters", they are technically goddesses despite living in the mortal realm, and are therefore immortal.

Wenlina

Holy Gal Monster of Life. Was captured by the Happiness Pharmaceutical Company before Rance rescued her.

Tropes exhibited by Wenlina include:
  • Back from the Dead: She can revive the recently dead, but this drains her power to the point that she can only do so once a year. As such she once resurrected Rance in 4.2 following his death at the hands of Arnie Rolento. Happens once again when he's killed by Arios on their third fight.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Said to have no hatred at all within her, and loves everyone and everything.
  • Healing Hands: She can heal any wound and any disease. She can even revive the recently dead, although that strains her power. Happiness Pharmaceuticals wanted to use her power to create a panacea.
  • Stripperiffic: She only wears a set of ribbons attached to her wrists and hair.

Housesnurse

Holy Gal Monster of Earth. Captured by the ruler of Shangri-La for her power to control the desert.

Tropes exhibited by Housesnurse include:
  • Dishing Out Dirt: She can control the movements of earth and soil on a large scale. The king of Shangri-La used her power to create, destroy, and manipulate passages through the desert, keeping his country hidden.
  • Drop the Hammer: She is usually seen carrying an enormous wooden hammer.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Curry and hamburgers.

Bezeleye

Holy Gal Monster of Strength. Captured by a mad scientist who used her to create the Bambara sub-species of monsters.

Tropes exhibited by Bezeleye include:
  • Big Freaking Sword: She's usually seen carrying an utterly enormous sword, which she can swing around quite effectively.
  • Monster Progenitor: Specifically of the Bambara sub-species of monsters, such as Ham Bambaras and Ivory Bambaras.
  • Super Strength: Comes with the territory of being a goddess of strength.

Serachrolas

Holy Gal Monster of Time. The most mysterious of the four.

Tropes exhibited by Serachrolas include:
  • Stripperiffic: She wears nothing but a collar with dangling ribbons.
  • Time Master: Though details are scarce, she is suggested to be able to manipulate time. She uses her power to de-age Arios Theoman so he can become the Hero once again, and later in Rance X de-age Katyusha Bosch to her twenties.

Others

Kaiju Prince

A member of the "Kaiju" species. Though popularly believed to be monsters, kaiju are in fact from another dimension and are completely unrelated to the Continent and its denizens. He travels throughout dimensions on a journey to give aid to "monsters" in various worlds.

Tropes exhibited by the Kaiju Prince include:
  • The Cameo: Rarely makes any major impact on a story, just showing up here and there fighting on behalf of "monsters".
  • Higher-Tech Species: The kaiju are known to have more advanced technology and culture than that of humanity.
  • The Reptilians: Kaiju appear as humanoid lizards with a variety of colors of scales. The Prince himself has bright green scales.

Kaiju Princess

A member of the "Kaiju" species. Though popularly believed to be monsters, kaiju are in fact from another dimension and are completely unrelated to the Continent and its denizens. She is the sister of the Kaiju Prince, and usually accompanies him on his travels.

Tropes exhibited by the Kaiju Princess include:
  • Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism: Female kaiju resemble human women with some reptilian features, rather than humanoid lizards.
  • The Cameo: She rarely makes a major impact on things, just showing up here and there fighting on behalf of "monsters".
  • Cute Monster Girl: She looks mostly human. She's frequently mistaken for a Gal Monster by the people of the Continent.
  • Precocious Crush: In one of her appearances in the Rance games, she has a crush on Rance. However, she's still very young, so Rance does nothing to pursue relations with her.

Toppos

A mysterious being that wanders the Monster Realm, brutally slaughtering anything in his path. He is actually a being created by the gods to keep the monster population in check.

Tropes exhibited by Toppos include:
  • Immortality: Only one Toppos has ever been known to exist, and since he's less a living creature and more a force for world balance, it's unclear whether or not he can be truly killed. Monsters consider him to be a natural disaster similar to an earthquake or hurricane, and rarely do anything other than flee from him.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: He looks like an immensely muscled, 3 meter tall human, more or less. And he ranks among the most powerful beings on the Continent.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Entire armies of monsters have fallen in combat with him. Even most Fiends don't stand a chance in battle against him, even with their Invincibility Field.

Gunagan

A strange and immensely powerful being that sometimes appears in Rance as a Bonus Boss.

Tropes exhibited by Gunagan include:
  • Bonus Boss: Whenever he does appear, it's as a post-game superboss.
  • Dimensional Traveler: During his dimensional travels, he ended up one time in Mamatoto, a non-Rance game from Alicesoft.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Though he looks vaguely like a (gigantic) ogre wearing bone armor, he also doesn't seem to ever stay dead. His paintings, while not terrible, per se, are extremely bizarre and incomprehensible. Background material indicates that he is a "parasitic spirit" that wanders between universes, and possesses power similar to that of lower gods.
  • Giftedly Bad: Strangely, he paints pictures when he isn't tearing holes in reality. The player can often unlock an example of his "art" upon defeating him, and they are always... weird.
  • Our Giants Are Bigger: He stands 66.66 meters tall and weighs 88888 kg.
  • Resurrective Immortality: If he's ever killed, he just revives on another plane of reality.
