Rance II

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

After the events of the first Rance game, he runs out of money and has to take a job in the town of Custom. It turns out that four witches have sealed Custom underground and it is up to Rance to venture into Hell's Mouth, a multi-layered dungeon that serves as the witches' home base, and bring them to justice.

Rance II is the second game of the Rance series, made in 1990. The original version is freeware, and a Fan Translation can be downloaded here. The game also received an Updated Rerelease in 2009, which can be purchased in English from MangaGamer's R-18 section.

Tropes used in Rance II include:
    • And you have to do this twice.
  • The Cameo: Lia, Maris, and Kanami from the first game come to gave Rance his Infinity+1 Sword.
  • Cape Swish: Rance does this whenever he exits a store.
  • Child-Hater: Rance, for the not unexpected but no less ridiculous reason: he is not sexually attracted to them.
  • Cutscene Boss: Elenoa.
  • Deal with the Devil: Rance gets three wishes from the deal. His first wish is to have sex. He tries to wish for it again, but the devil begs for him to change his wish. He wishes for something he needs for his Chain of Deals. He uses his last wish to prevent her from taking his soul. She runs off crying.
  • Demonic Possession: The mayor's daughter was possessed by Ragithis during her sudden disappearance.
  • Deus Sex Machina: It turns out that the rings are making the witches evil. Furthermore, the rings only work on virgins. Good thing the Hero is a serial rapist.
    • The Egyptian teleportation devices. The first one requires a panty flash. The second one requires naked breasts. The third one needs masturbation. And the fourth one? Lesbian sex!
  • "Glad to Be Alive" Sex: Rance and Sill have this at the beginning of Chapter 6.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Shizuka wants to go back in time and prevent her father's death.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: In the first battle against Mill, she summons incorporeal Eidolons that can only be harmed with a specific weapon.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Bird. Poor, poor Bird.
  • Horny Devils: Ralga the succubus. She has Catgirl minions.
  • Indy Ploy: By Rance. He is able to get Mill Yorks to surrender by suddenly taking her sister (a current ally) hostage and holding a sword up to her neck. It works.
  • The Ladette: Milli Yorks. Masculine speech patters, heavy drinker, bisexual and makes Rance feel like a loser in bed.
  • Lady Not-Appearing-In-This-Game: The girl on the cover was supposed to appear in the game as Shizuka's half-sister, but they weren't able to put her in due to time restraints. She finally makes an appearance in Kichikuou Rance and Rance VI as Nagi su Ragarl.
  • Lethal Lava Land: The fourth floor.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: Sill gets caught in a teleport trap, sending her to Elenoa's dungeon.
  • Making A Splash: Maria's magic involves manipulation of water.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • After Rance rapes Mill, disabling her ring's magic, she reverts to her true form... which is that of a small child. Rance is less than pleased with the realization.
    • Ran is also filled with regret after being freed from her ring's magic, not just for trying to kill Bird and Sill, but also due to her role in Custom's collapse.
  • Naughty Nuns: Taken Up to Eleven with Rosé, who has sex with devils.
  • Not So Fast Bucko: After defeating Shizuka, you finally gather all four rings, the town becomes un-sunk, and a celebration party is held in your name. Problem solved, right? Wrong! The Big Bad ends up taking the Phil rings from you while possessing the mayor's daughter. Also counts as Fission Mailed, as the following CG is a fake ending screen, with Rance proclaiming "Screw This, I'm Outta Here". And then he's roped into fighting the True Final Boss.
  • Only In It For The Money: And boy, does Rance show it. He asks for more payment from the mayor until the dude is almost crying.
  • One-Winged Angel: The Final Boss does this twice! He dies soon after the second time due to abusing his power too much.
  • Phlebotinum: Hirara ore, which is required to run the Tulip series.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: Mill Yorks is a child, but her ring transformed her into an adult so she could properly wield its power.
  • Punch Clock Hero: Rance cares little about the town and just wants his money.
  • Schizo-Tech: Nuclear lamps, artillery and the internet in a Medieval European Fantasy.
  • Shonen Upgrade: Sill spontaneously learns Fire Laser in her desperation to avoid being raped and possibly killed by a monster on the third floor.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Maria Custard is smart enough to build an elaborate trap like receding walls, and also wear glasses.
  • Three-Way Sex: Up to forty-one!!!
  • Time Travel: The goal of the leader of the witches, Shizuka. She tries to prevent her father's murder, but Rance stops her and takes her back to the present before she can do anything.
  • Virgin Power: The rings can only be worn by virgins.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: The rings. Subverted with Shizuka.
  • Womb Level: The third floor of the maze.
