Resident Evil 2/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Anticlimax Boss: Birkin's fifth form, the final boss in the game, can only attack you if you stand around right in front of him. Meanwhile, you've got a rocket launcher.
  • Awesome Music: The Second Malformation of G.
  • Complete Monster: Chief Brian Irons, who killed the Mayor's daughter and wanted her as a stuffed trophy, and before the game he was accused of rape twice. He's also largely responsible for the police force not investigating Umbrella (who has been performing illegal experiments on their victims), since he is in fact taking bribes from them in order to be wealthy. When the game actually begins and the city is infested with the T-Virus, he takes the opportunity to kill whoever he wants. This includes his own fellow policemen.
  • Demonic Spiders:
    • Lickers. You can sometimes just sneak by them, but in tight corridors (which is where you'll see them best out of ten), they'll become alert and chase you down the moment you get close to them. Their close range swiping attack doesn't deal remarkable damage and you can easily get them in melee range since they're blind and won't enter their alert mode until you either run, shoot a loud weapon, or get right up next to them. Just don't alert them from far away because their long ranged attack, a leaping swipe, deals more damage than most bosses can do in one hit. It's worse if there is more than one of them.
      • Thankfully regular swipes (their most common attack) deal pathetic damage[1], as does the tongue whip.
      • The Advanced Lickers beat the original by miles, as they dish out more damage and can take twice as much punishment. In the labs they can attack offscreen, and can be a One-Hit Kill (from fine to danger\dead).
  • Ensemble Darkhorse:
    • HUNK. Every other appearance by Gas Mask Mooks later in the series is assumed to be him until proven otherwise.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: HUNK's scenario is known as the "4th Survivor," the other three being Claire, Leon, and Sherry. Even forgetting for a moment that Ada also survived due to a retcon, the third game and current and subsequent Outbreak games keep adding more and more survivors, so the whole "only four survivors" thing just gets sillier by the year.
    • Chief Brian Irons was intended as a hero in the original drafts of the game, very jarring when you look up.
  • Narm: It's a Resident Evil game! And admit it, you wouldn't have it any other way!
