Resident Evil 3: Nemesis/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A bit of an obscure one. In the Versus Books Perfect Guide for Resident Evil 3, the author as a joke, pointed out various similarities between Nemesis and Sagat from Street Fighter. At the end he hopes that "Street Fighter Vs Resident Evil happens someday soon!" Fast forward to 2011, Nemesis is one of the characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
  • Rule of Sexy:
    • Why is Jill dressed like a prostitute? Who cares, it's hot!
    • This paid off big time in Resident Evil: Apocalypse as well as in Umbrella Chronicles, where we got a better rendered version of said outfit.
  • Nightmare Retardant: Nemesis is not as scary as he could have been. A challenge, maybe, but even this gets dull after a while. While the idea of an enemy like him stalking Jill and following her from one area to another sounds terrifying on paper, there's always a lot of loading before he appears, ruining the shock entirely. Plus in later parts of the game, Jill can floor him using some rather easy quick-time events. You almost feel sorry for the big lug after a while.
  • Nintendo Hard: This game is brutal. Comparing it to Resident Evil 2, the zombies can take more hits, there are much, much more of them. You'll find yourself backtracking through parts of the city (Even to the very beginning of the game!) and you might think these revisits aren't going to be as bad. It's probably worse than when you first ran through. Zombies and dogs will bust out of windows in previously cleared areas, and healing items are precious. You can get a lot of handgun and shotgun ammo, through the gun powder mixing mechanic...but you could be missing out on ammo to some major firepower. Not to mention Nemesis is stalking you the whole time, sometimes relentlessly so. And if you're on Hard Mode and want those beastly gun parts that he drops, well, hope you're good at dodging zombies for a majority of the game, save up your ammo kiddies, because he don't go down easy!
  • That One Boss: The fight with Nemesis at the Clock Tower is one of the toughest boss battles in the game. You have a very limited space in which to fight him in, and he will often knock you down, then pick you up and do a One-Hit Kill move.
