Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Cross-Dressing Voices: The titular character was voiced by Billie Mae Richards, who was ironically credited as Billy Richards from 1965 onward, as mentioned in obituaries mourning her death in September 2010.
  • Executive Meddling: Why is Yukon Cornelius always licking his pickaxe? As a deleted scene shows, he's looking for a peppermint mine. Watch the uncovered scene here. Since this would be a Continuity Snarl given all his rants about looking for precious ore, and the network wanted to include the song "Silver and Gold", the network started to omit it in 1965.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Burl Ives as Sam the Snowman.
    • Rudolph's Shiny New Year features Red Skelton and Frank Gorshin. This is lampshaded by Skelton, who mentions at one point how red his hair used to be. And you'll spend the whole special waiting for Sir 1023 to start saying "Riddle me this!"
    • Dark Helmet went from stealing air from a nearby planet to stealing toys from Santa's workshop in The Island of Misfit Toys.
  • Word of God: Many wondered what made the doll a misfit. It was revealed decades later in a talk show when Arthur Rankin Jr. said her problem was psychological, from feeling unloved.
    • Jules Bass is quoted as saying "I dunno. Maybe she was an alcoholic or something?"
    • It's clearly because she was a ginger.
