Why do all the characters think Usagi is stupid/crazy when she is being jealous over Mamoru. It's not like every female villain has tried to make him her sex-slave...
- Might have something to do with, how every male villain tried to make her his sexslave, but Mamoru doesn`t make such a fuss about it. Of course, one could argue which behaviour is more appropriate...
- Only Beryl and Ann were only female villains attracted to Mamoru, Nehellenia captured him to get revenge on Usagi. Besides, Usagi is jealous even about their future child, friends and strangers Mamoru helps out of kindness. And Mamoru has never chased other girls, even before dating Usagi. So her jealousy is extremely unreasonable.

This has been bothering me for MONTHS Usagi's little hair bun things have those things when she transforms into Sailor Moon, in one of the early episodes she uses these to talk to someone or something like that but I can not recall her ever using them again. They seem to have just been forgot about and have now simply become part of the uniform. Does she use them again and I'm just forgetting it?
- In the first episode she (inadvertently) uses them to hurt the villain by transmitting her shrieks into sonic noise, and in another episode she can hear a character's screams for help through them - I can't remember exactly who it is (my brain is saying Chibi-usa). But other than that, no, she never uses them again and they fade into her uniform.
  - She actually heard Naru's screams for help in the first episode as well, the only time that particular function ever came into play as far as I can remember.
    - Seems like something they only did once. The manga version of the same story was the same way - she originally had a mask in her uniform, and she was able to see Naru being attacked by looking into the mask. She promptly stopped using the mask after this storyline. Despite the fact that a danger-seeking mask (or danger-seeking hair barrettes) would be really useful!

If Sailor Moon can revive the dead, why are there still dead characters on the show? She could have easily have brought Nephlyte and Saphir back, especially considering what pain it caused their respective girlfriends, or maybe Makoto or Mamoru's dead parents? Sure, the fact that she could only came up at the end of the first season, but that still did not stop her afterwards! The natural order of things does not matter, she is a reality warper; she can just make it so they never died to begin with (which is the way dead characters usually are brought back on this show, like the first season finale).
- Mind listing the other times a dead character was brought back specifically by her making it so they didn't die in the first place? Because I can't think of anything after the first season that fits that criteria - either they weren't dead in the first place, someone/something else brought them back to life, or they were reborn then and there. That is, of course, ignoring all the times in the other four seasons when she's doing everything she can to make sure they won't die, and is horrified and/or shocked when they do. The prime example is in the very last episode where she is crying over the fact that her lover and friends are dead. To me this clearly shows that no, she can't just bring people back to life.
- There is also the tiny fact that when ever Sailor Moon uses the Silver Crystal's power, it nearly kills her and that it actually took her own death in the first season to bring everyone back to life, that makes pretty clear that she just can't use it to bring the dead back to life at a whim.
- There's also the fact that she clearly didn't do it on purpose. It was sort of accidental, in that the moment of her own death she managed to unleash a vast amount of power that brought everyone back. Since she didn't control it, I don't think she'd be able to do it deliberately.
  - Okay, while it was accidental the first time, the fact that her friends were suddenly not dead anymore should have alerted Usagi that she could bring back some of the more sympathetic villains who died?
    - You just answered your own question: it brings back her friends, not people she only felt sorry for or wasn't attached to. She has to wish for their return and want it bad enough to die for it, because that's how the Silver Crystal works.
  - She WAS able to revive Nehellenia's entire court, so that makes the point moot. Maybe it is an Adaption Induced Plot Hole, as few of the villains are portrayed sympathetically in the manga.
  - I always thought that the Nehellenia thing was more a case of sending the Queen back along her personal timeline but with some memories intact. That way our continuity is not ruined and the young Queen gets a better life in an alternate universe.
How come Sailor Mercury's powers are almost all Heart-level lame and weaker than Sailor Neptune's, especially in the Japanese version where Mercury = Water Planet? It's never presented as a fundamental difference in personality, either, or teased that Ami just has an enormous untapped potential. Power over water should be greater by at least a whole level of magnitude than power over oceans.
- While Sailor Mercury being weaker than Sailor Neptune doesn't make sense theme wise, it does make sense position wise. Sailor Mercury is supposed to be a bodyguard and Sailor Neptune is supposed to be able to stop the various threats before they enter the Solar System.
  - So, basically, Mercury = Secret Service and Neptune = the CIA?
  - Maybe their personalities do play a part. Mercury is a total shrinking violet, and Neptune isn't afraid to be herself or kick butt.
- I coulda sworn Mercury's powers stopped being heart-level lame by the time she went from "cold and vision-obscuring fog" to "gigantic column of freezing water." Shining Aqua Illusion was her first cool attack.
  - You know what bugs me? That more people don't notice that and assume Ami's the weakest just because her FIRST and WEAKEST attack is a support spell with minor offensive power.
- First of all, the Outers are stronger. Second, Ami is water, but seems to concentrate on ice.
- I have a theory: Mercury isn't controlling water directly, but kinetic energy. It would explain why she seems to control water in all three phases, and why a seemingly liquid wave (Shine Aqua Illusion) causes instant frostbite; it's supercooled. With a little imagination, she could potentially be the deadliest of the inners if not the entire team, by directly draining the kinetic energy out of the Monster of the Week. Think about it; drain something down to about 30K and then kick it as hard as you can... Ami Wins: FATALITY.
  - Incidentally, this is how Ami's powers first manifest in Moonshadows, a Darker and Edgier reimagining of the Sailor Moon mythos.
  - Call me completely unfamiliar with physics, but how does draining the kinetic energy out of something hurt it? And what's Moonshadows?
    - Kinetic energy is more than just what keeps an object in motion, it's kinetic energy that holds the atoms of anything together, heat is essentially kinetic energy. Removing the binding energy of an objects molecules renders it fragile and ultimately it collapses into subatomic particles.
- Mercury's powers aren't weak, they're just different. Even her original bubbles seemed to have two functions, straight out attack or the fog. As Mars, Jupiter and Venus have more raw power with their attacks she tends to stick in the support role, interupting enemy attacks and covering them. We see the bubbles can be dangerous but are rarely used as such. Her next power, the Ice Bubbles, is pretty much on par with the others, it's just not as flashy. Shine Aqua Illusion is powerful, flashy and does damage AND freezes, making her the most dangerous of that power level. The thing with Mercury is that she, unlike any of the others, is attacking with matter instead of energy. Fire, electricity beams are all energy and while Mercury is spraying things with water for the most part.
- They gave her a break in the Another Story game by making her Shabon Spray attack ignore the enemy's defence stat thus making up for her being fairly weak otherwise.
  - Aside from the fact that Shabon Spray takes any enemy's accuracy and plummets it to Fraggel Rock's depths. That way you could slowly but surely solo all the game just with her in the back of the Defense Formation.
  - Um, hello?. And another hello?. And finally, SUPER HELLO. Can't believe people think her powers are lame.
  - Mercury = 水星 (Suisei) = "Water Star"; Neptune = 海王星 (Kaiousei) = "Sea King Star". And to echo what an above troper said, the series explicitly states that the Outers are more powerful than the Inners.
A lot of people go around saying that the Cardians from the Makaiju arc are reminiscent of the Tarot. They mention Amaderesu being The Sun. And that's it. What are the others?
- Falion is the Wheel of Fortune.
- Hell Ant seems to be The Moon, and Gigaros either Temperance or Justice. Minotauron's body looks modeled after The Devil (plus the Minotaur, of course) while the background of her card looks like it could be The Tower as seen from within. Reci might be an odd version of The Star, or an odder version of the Hanged Man.
Why was everyone surprised that Usagi was the Moon Princess? SAILOR MOON! MOON PRINCESS! MAKE THE CONNECTION!
- While in fiction names often have a deeper meaning, that doesn't need to be the case. Sometimes you're Genre Savvy and recognize these things, other times you think you recognize them and then you find out you were completely wrong. You can never be fully confident in what you 'know' when it comes to fiction.
- The dub completely shattered any sort of suspense as far as the Moon Princess's identity. In the manga, and the live-action series there was actually genuine sense of mystery around her identity because Sailor Venus was masquerading as the Moon Princess so protect Sailor Moon. The anime kinda/sorta acknowledged it in Sailor Venus's introduction episode when the other girls ask her if she's the Moon Princess and her answer makes it ambiguous.
- Example of being completely wrong: Way back when I first started to see the anime, I had the theory that Sailor Moon was the Princess' personal bodyguard and the others protected the Moon Kingdom in general.
- How is that an example of Completely Wrong? I've always been under the impression that was the in universe assumption as well. I'm sure a few watchers figured it out before the Senshi did, but except for DI Cs spoiler happy opening, the connection is never made beyond the Senshi were bodygaurds of their respective planets. The moon isn't a planet but one wouldn't expect an active bodyguard to be the Princess the bodyguards are supposed to protect. I mean, Luna and Artemis didn't even figure it out.
All right.'m sorta new to Sailor Moon, but, it has been stated on the main page that the Senshi will always come back to life if they die. Then how come they treat death as a big deal if they get better?
- Because seeing your best friends/people you love dying horribly in front of you is traumatizing? And dying is no picnic either?
  - At the beginning of Season 2 (after everyone has been revived and then had their memories of being Sailors erased), Luna unlocks Usagi's memories of the previous season (including all the deaths) to combat a new threat. Usagi's first reaction to this information is to start screaming.
  - First time round, they didn't know they were going to come back. Second time, Galaxia had taken their Star Seeds, and if she'd been able to keep them, they really wouldn't have come back.
  - Senshi cannot just self-resurrect. Sailor Moon can resurrect people, if she isn't defeated herself - and you can't guard her from that if you are, well, dead - and in the anime she can't do so reliably. She managed to pull off a wish on the Silver Crystal without horrible consequences once, but there is no guarantee, that she won't repeat the fate of Queen Serenity the next time (in Star S, dead were returned to life with Galaxia's help).
  - Interestingly enough is that in the manga the Senshi only died once, during their fight with Galaxia. Also in the original manga its not Sailor Moon who revives them when they are killed.
    - Actually they (the Inners anyway) do die in the first arc, and Moon revives them along with Tokyo, and most likely more.
During the Makaiju arc, Ail and An needed energy or they would die. They had no sinister plans for global domination or to destroy anything. They just took energy to keep the Makaiju alive and when they took a person's energy, it didn't kill them, nor did it seem to do anything but make them sleepy. How exactly are they evil?
- They only look evil to the Sailor Senshi because they send out their monsters to to attack innocent people. Once they find out about the truth about them in the finale of the arc they actually try to help them.
- That and Eiru and An didn't exactly care about the effects their actions had - they threatened Sailor Moon in their first appearance to her that they were going to devour the energy of everything on the planet. Even if the cause was in a moral grey area, they sure didn't present it like that. Also, only the dub presents energy loss as "sleep". In the Japanese version, people left without energy can die, hence the large groups of them in the hospital in the baby episode. While nobody ever does die of energy loss in the Japanese version, it's always a threat.
- Eating humans was a lifestyle choice - they mentioned in the first episode that they could get by on plants (and presumably other animals) if they wished.
What would happen to a Sailor Senshi's powers if the planet/moon/etc. she was associated with was completely destroyed.
- Probably nothing. I'm no expert on the series, but doesn't a senshi's power stem from her sailor crystal?
  - Yes, but the Sailor Crystals are connected to planets/etc.
  - So, what happens when you're demoted?
    - Probably nothing. There appears to be no correlation between a senshi's power and the type of astronomical body she is associated with.
    - You go insane, go back through time, and kill the scientists who changed your planet's classification. That is what happens when you are demoted.
    - The fan site Suburban Senshi played with this with Pluto's Demotion to a dwarf planet. This version of Pluto goes batshit insane and starts mucking up stuff including the timeline for her own amusement.
      - Presumably because she's a much more obscure character, nothing seems to have come in the fandom of Sailor Ceres getting her asteroid promoted to dwarf planet.
    - During the Super S manga, Tuxedo Kamen gets seriously ill because of the dark moons affect on the earth. Why would the planet being hurt do more psychic damage than a planet being destroyed?
- Well we have the Asteroid Senshi (The Amazons) who are the future guardians of Sailor Chibi-Moon so any major astrological body seems to have a senshi. As for if your planet is destroyed, this seems to be what happened to Galaxia. So your planet is gone = Go crazy and try to rule the universe. But apparently your crystal works just fine if your planet is gone. Hell, Chaos is said to have a crystal and a Guardian Sprite with no mention of a planet. So...
  - Galaxia's home planet is never stated to have been destroyed; in the anime, she becomes as she is due to realizing she can't win her fight against Chaos and separating her star seed from herself; in the manga, she just hated her home planet and left it, wandering the galaxy looking for greater power.
- Absolutely nothing happens to your powers. Princess Kakyuu was the guardian senshi for her planet, Kinmoku. In the manga, Kinmoku is destroyed, but Kakyuu retains a sailor form. She was wounded and out of commission for a while, but only because she had been hurt badly in a fight against Galaxia, not because of the planet's destruction itself (though perhaps its destruction meant she healed more slowly; goodness knows the Sol system senshi recover quickly enough from their battles). As far as the manga indicates, if your planet is destroyed you roam the galaxy looking to stop the threat that did it from doing it to someone else, because you're a sailor of love and justice and that's the right thing to do since you no longer have a place to be a guardian of. It's pretty tragic, really.
If Mamoru is basically Sailor Earth, why aren't there any other male senshi?
- He's kind of useless, if you haven't noticed. Sailor Crystals must not be able to operate at full capacity in the presence of a y chromosome, and so male sailors probably tend to die rather early due to lack of offensive (or defensive) capability coupled with a duty to be in situations where offensive and defensive capability would be really, really helpful.
- This Troper suspects that the Shitennou were male senshi.
  - Senshi of what exactly?
    - I have no idea which particular astronomical bodies they'd be associated with, but there are plenty of moons and asteroids in our Solar system without a senshi associated with them, so four of those. However, the idea is based mostly on the fact that prior to joining Queen Beryl they had the same relationship with Endymion that Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Mars had with Princess Serenity.
  - Not quite. They represent four continents/ areas of the earth, not astronomical bodies.
- Word of God says sailor senshi can only be female, and there's been a lot of fan debate over whether that means that Tuxedo Kamen doesn't count as a senshi. Senshi is just the generic Japanese word for 'warrior' or 'guardian' or what have you, though, so she may have just been referring to the fact that sailor senshi are only girls, which gets confusing once you consider the fact that Mamoru had a sailor crystal (in the manga, anyway).
  - It's not that confusing. Males can carry and use sailor crystals; they simply cannot wear the sailor suit.
    - Given that the Sailor costume is modeled after middle-school girls' school uniforms, the male equivalent would be the boys' uniform tunic-- which is more or less what the Shitennou wear, and what Endymion wears, under the armor, so it works out. However, a Sailor Crystal's true power is all about hearts and sugar and rainbows and the like, so a slick tuxedo and a pimp cane is about as close as a dude is going to get.
If Sailor Moon is the only one who can defeat the Monster of the Week, what are the other Sailor Senshi for? Decoration?
- Defense.
- For that matter, if Sailor Moon's uber-speshful shiny attack is the only thing that can beat the aforementioned monster, why does she waste time trying to use other stuff beforehand?
  - Because as Team Rocket says, 'We have to fill 20 minutes of episode'.
- And for that matter, if said attack always works (except when the plot demands that it doesn't), why does she hesitate and require Tuxedo Mask to assure her, at least in the first season?
  - Surely her attacks need a 'casting time'? Mages need some type of meatshield while they get their magical nuclear-bombs ready...
- In fact, there are occasional episodes where Sailor Moon isn't the one who defeats the monster, including one where Jupiter trains and gets the confidence to defeat a monster; of course, next episode Moon is back to doing the job again since it's her show, but the show is really inconsistent about strength anyway.
  - Mars defeated a monster in her debut episode as well.
- In the manga the show was based off of all the girls have defeated the monster of the week at least once. It only applies to the anime, consider it Adaptation Decay
- I do seem to remember a 1st or 2nd season episode where Moon's attack was actually tried and didn't work, because the monster needed to be weakened first.
- On a sort of related note... I'd be pissed if I was first season Sailor Mercury. Everybody else gets raw power over impressive elements and, were they not doomed to failure, are more than capable of defeating most threats. Mercury gets... a glorified smoke bomb and an attack that is never shown as anything but completely pathetic if it doesn't combine with something else. She even pretty much flat out states how worthless her powers are in episode ** While it fails to hold for some of the seasons, their are certain times when it makes sense. Mostly when the monster is a transformed human, so of course only the Healer can save them. At the same time, it suggest she needs them weakened before she can use her attack (especially if it's been newly acquired). Because it's cool to give someone third degree burns and electric shock so long as you make them human at the end.

45. While an argument could be made that her intelligence combined with the Magical Computer makes her a valuable asset, it's downplayed to the point of practically being an Informed Ability. Maybe this is why she tends to get the Possession Sue treatment in fanfiction.

- - I just take comfort in the fact that she can eventually blast people with giant columns of freezing water... that's apparently strong enough to make the other Senshi seriously worry when it looks like Ami is going to hit them with it.
Why don't the monsters in question just attack during the Transformation Sequence? She's wide open, after all.
- You don't interrupt Fan Service. Hordes of angry, horny nerds are a terrible enemy, especially if the target is even vaguely female.
- It's worth noting that the senshi rarely transform in front the monster of the week. Usually they transform out out of sight, then jump in with the In the Name of the Moon speech. In other words, the monster typically aren't even aware of the senshi until the transformation sequence is finished.
- And why don't the supervillains ever send more than a bare handful of monsters and goons at a time? As Nixon said when he learned of the disastrous attempted hostage rescue raid in 1980, "Six? You sent six helicopters? Why not a thousand? It's not as if we didn't have them!"
  - Because of Conservation of Ninjitsu. 'The more enemies, the less threat they pose'.
    - The theory does not hold. The villains did only send one villain per episode, who inevitably failed every time. Once Conservation of Ninjitsu is broken, it becomes only logical to send an entire division of monsters into battle.
      - In the first movie, Fiore did indeed send scads of the flower nagas (whatever they were called) after the senshi. They just altered their attacks to take out more of them. (Venus did Crescent beam, Moon did Halation and just dragged it in a semi-circle.) Regardless of number, it seemed to work.
- It's eyecandy, the transformations happen for the senshi in a blink of an eye. Only the viewer sees the transformation in full.
  - Certainly true in PGSM, anyway; the stock footage in the anime is so prevalent that it's pretty hard to tell.
  - Episode 106 of the anime appears to confirm this. In Haruka's backstory, which is shown from her point of view, we see Michiru transforming instantly.
    - I refer you to here^{[dead link]} (WARNING, some non work safe images therein) and specifically to 1.05. The Lunar Archivist answer better than I ever could.
  - Actually, the main anime series never seems to decide on how long it takes. In the first season episode when Usagi gets captured alongside Mamoru, she transforms in front of him in the elevator. It goes at the usual stock footage speed, but intercuts reactions from Mamoru.
  - It's not as contradictory as you think. All he did was look at her and say "What? Sailor Moon?" That, along with Usagi's inner debate and transformation, were slowed down to make it more dramatic.
- I'm thinking the transformation magic opens a little dimensional pocket inside which the actual transformation happens that closes upon its completion. It's somewhat like how Nightcrawler teleports by using his power to enter another dimension for a split-second and emerge in his new location.
- Okay, so if the transformation sequence all happens in a blink, then why don't the monsters attack them when they're doing all the posing? "In the name of the moon, I will pun-AAH!"**
  - It's rude. And Sailor Iron Mouse does leave during the speech in one of the episodes of Star S.
  - In episode 63, Sailor Moon does her speech, then it cuts to Kooan powdering her face and then asking "Huh, did you say something?" which shows they have plenty of time during the In the Name of the Moon speech, so, yeah, why doesn't the monster sneak behind them and strangle Moon in the middle of it?
  - For that matter, why don't the other Sailors use the same opportunity for sneak attacks?
How old is Sailor Pluto, anyway? And who built the Time Gate and installed her there?
- In the manga Queen Serenity installs Pluto there as a small girl. I have no idea how old she is (very, very, very old is all I can say) or who made the Space-Time Door at all.
  - That's always bugged me - what kind of crazy woman puts a kid in charge of the very fabric of space and time? That's just begging to let the universe get destroyed. Hey, wait a minute...
  - Sailor Pluto refers to Cronos, the God of Time, as her father in the manga. It's entirely possible that she was among the first Sailor Senshi ever, since we have no way of knowing which Queen Serenity put her at the Gate (or when, since she was immortal anyway.)
  - Depending on version, language, and preference Pluto's age can vary a lot. She could be reincarnated and knew when to show up in the third season, she could be as old as time, she could be a thousand years old or ten million. I go with the reincarnation theory.
  - In the manga, Pluto was around since the beginning of time. Then, during the Black Moon Arc, she is killed when she preforms Time Stop, which is one of the Three Taboos, to keep the Silver Crystal of the future and the Silver Crystal of the present from touching, which would destroy the world. She was reincarnated in time to appear again during the next arc. Granted, this would mean she was reincarnated before she actually died, but since she can see the time stream this would make sense. Sort of...
If Eudial doesn't need a Monster of the Week to extract Pure Heart Crystals, and if her flamethrower is even more powerful than Sailor Moon's attack, what are the monsters for? Distraction?
- Yes. Eudial: I need to escape, cover me! Daemon: Cover you?! There's twenty of them!
If Galaxia and her minions know that "true" Star Seeds belong to Sailor Senshi and only them, why do they even bother attacking random people (and getting blanks) instead of extracting Star Seeds from the Senshi as soon as they appear?
- I've come to the conclusion that Galaxia intentionally kept WHAT constitutes a "True Star Seed" from her (brainwashed) minions. She mentions that she takes great pleasure in watching Senshi duke it out for no good reason, and this is basically what the entire season is. Hence, the whole thing is just a game until Galaxia steps in herself.
- Personally, I think that the Star Seeds can't be taken out while the senshi are transformed -- they have to be not "in use" to take them. (There may be a case that contradicts this as I have not seen ALL of Stars, but this makes the most sense to me regardless.)
  - They can be taken when the Senshi are transformed. Galaxia does this to nearly the entire main cast. Including Tuxedo Mask.
- It's pure Adaptation Decay, and one of the worst attempts to shoehorn plots into the Monster of the Week format. In the manga that nonsense doesn't occur, and she picks off the senshi within the first bits of the arc.
- It's not true that only Senshi have true starseeds as obviously Mamoru had a true starseed and he wasn't a Senshi (all arguments about him being the Prince of the Earth aside, Word of God says only women can be Senshi). So it's possible that the Animamates were simply working down their list of candidates for true starseeds in the hopes of finding one. Even still, it is a bit of a stretch of the imagination, and as the above troper mentioned it's probably just Adaptation Decay as the manga Animamates go straight for the kill.
  - Word of God says only women can be sailor senshi. There weren't any non-powered candidates who had starseeds anyway, and Galaxia's backstory has her ripping the true starseeds out of all the senshi of the galaxy. So her not knowing that only senshi (or powered individuals, however you want to put it) had true starseeds doesn't make sense in context of her history.
- Well, I think that in the anime, her minions didn't know. And going with the theory that she had fun watching the senshi battle each other, maybe that's why she killed Sailor Alumina Siren, because she found out that only Sailor senshi have a "starseed".

Sailor Moon and the Senshi all look and sound like their 'normal' forms reasonably enough, and yet NOBODY is able to tell that they're one and the same under normal circumstances. I mean, come on, who ELSE would have Usagi's hairstyle? Who COULDN'T tell Usagi = Sailor Moon if you're near both long enough?
- There's a pretty popular theory to answer your question. The senshi have a sort of barrier around them that makes them either appear different and unrecognizable or makes the villian forget what they look like.
- Law of Flimsy Recognition: simply changing costumes or wearing a mask can make you unrecognizable to even your own mama.
- The only villain that did recognize that Sailor Moon was Usagi was Fiore from the Sailor Moon R movie after only meeting Usagi once.
- Many a Fanfic has been written about the premise of the Senshi's Parents just playing along with the Secret Identity thing.
- Since it's a magical girl series, you should probably just lump it in with their magical powers. There are examples of other magical people who can disguise themselves using magic, so the senshi probably just get the glamour during their transformation.
- Simple out-of-universe answer: Grandfather Clause for Clark Kenting. Simple in-universe answer: Nobody suspects them. The victims tend not to see the Senshi long enough to make the connection, even if they do know their civilian selves. Besides, since the implausible hair is probably just artistic convention, they may well look generic enough for nobody to realize that those bumbling girls are the warriors of love and justice they briefly saw once/see often/regularly fight.
- This is Lampshaded (At least in the dub) in Sailor Venus' first appearance as Mina. When she shows up at Raye's shrine, the others only recognize her because Artemis is with her. (Which makes you wonder why Mina would ask a possible group of strangers if they were the Sailor Scouts she was supposed to be meeting) Handwaved with one line about how they all look different in their untransformed states, and the matter is never brought up again.
- In the manga artbook it reveals that when transformed the girls have were supposed to have a different height, hair and eye color. Though one person did figure out their identity when they showed signs of their powers in their civilian state.
- I personally have come to one of two conclusions: Possibility 1; The Sailor transformation has some sort of magical occlusion in it, such that one can't discern the original person unless the transformation is viewed. Possibility 2; Everyone else in Sailor Moon-flavored Japan is an idiot.
- Actually, they get recognized by loved ones a lot in the manga. They just don't normally beat the crap out of anything when people who could recognize them are conscious, and an average person seeing a vaguely familiar school girl that they're otherwise had no contact with is not that likely to put two and two together. Oh, and there's a few instances in the anime of people getting figured out but those ultimately had no consequence for some reason. Clark Kenting at its finest.
  - Indeed. Usagi at one point confronts Haruka with the notion that she looks exactly like Sailor Uranus.
- This was actually recognized and fixed in PGSM, the live action version. The senshi still had their ridiculously stylized hair, but Usagi and friends had natural looking brown or black hair, and more realistic hairstyles (Usagi wore regular pigtails as opposed to meatball-hair, for example.)
  - Actually, that 'meatball' style actually exists (or existed, perhaps). Obviously not common, and the 'meatballs' aren't as large, but I've seen it several times in Japanese movies that pre-date Sailor Moon (such as the oyster digger in 1985's Tampopo).
- Given that one of the only civilian characters to figure out a senshi's identity was Ami's psychic love interest, and his ability seemed to have a hand in it, I figure it's just part of the glamour effect. Notice that when the girls use their henshin items to disguise themselves as cops, firefighters, even boys, the audience still sees them as themselves dressed in a costume, but the people around them apparently see them as the real thing. Their senshi forms probably have the same effect.
- There's also an early Sailor Moon episode in which Sailor Moon hides behind a curtain while appearing in front of her brother Shingo to avoid having her identity revealed, so that's some indication that magic occlusions notwithstanding there is some danger of the shield being seen through.
  - Not necessarily. That episode was the fourth or fifth time as Sailor Moon, so she could've been unsure how effective the shield was. Later in the season she appears right before Naru with no mention about risking her identity.
- Seiya actually recognizes Sailor Moon as Usagi pretty early on in the Stars anime (during their date episode) but promptly writes it off as a trick of imagination at the end of the episode.
- I could've sworn that someone said that the tiaras actually hid their secret identities.
- It's an anime only thing, mostly. In the manga, Mamoru figures out extremely fast that Usagi is Sailor Moon, and he doesn't really hesitate about revealing his identity. It would have been nice if the anime had been at least somewhat consistent, but there are still cases like Minako (mentioned above) or Chibi Moon's first appearance. With Chibi Moon, it's almost more jarring, because it's pretty much the first time they're confronted with her and the possibility that Chibiusa is a senshi too, no matter how obvious it was.
The age old question: why Chibiusa/Rini has red eyes and pink hair? Yeah, could be because her grand-grand-parents and stuff, but someone had to ask.
- Artistic convention? After all, most other characters don't exactly have believable hair colors either.
  - Plus, Naoko's original sketches toyed around with Sailor Moon having pink or silver hair. So maybe it is a family thing...
  - Also the Queen Serenity had pink hair and red eyes, so she must take after her grandmother. Princess Serenity had silver hair originally too, and since Usagi fully assimilated her in the future. One could say that her genes transformed as well. (Though this is once again only in the manga).
    - Queen Serenity has silver hair and blue eyes...
    - But in manga, Ikuko (Usagi's mom) has pink hair. Maybe the red eyes are from Mamoru's family.
    - In agreement with that in the manga Chibi Chibi has red hair and yet is really Sailor Cosmos the future version hiding in the form of her younger self's little sister, I also recall Chibi Usa using the excuse that she was related to Usagi from her mother's side of the family. So the genes are probably there.
  - One fanfic I read suggested that the Moon royalty's hair turned silver when the woman came of age, and that Queen Serenity's hair was actually pink at birth. There was even a joke about it: "Where do you think she got her hair from, Endymion?"
  - This Troper only figured two things. One was she once read that since Chibiusa's name means "Little Bunny" that she has red eyes like some rabbits do and the pink hair is loosely based on the front of some rabbits ears being pink. Another was some people associate pink and red or both for the colors of Romantic love(i.e. decorations for Valentine's Day). Maybe Chibiusa's colored hair and eyes are symbols for Usagi's and Mamoru's love for each other.
  - This Troper remembers reading on a few occasions the theory that Chibiusa was born during a total lunar eclipse. Since the Sun's rays behind the moon caused it to have a red ring around it, the newborn Moon Princess received red eyes and pink hair(pink being a tint of red). Some have claimed Word of God on this, for that I have no confirmation.
  - Maybe Usagi has naturally pink hair and red eyes but dyes her hair blonde and wears blue contacts?
Why do the original Moon Kingdom/Queen Serenity senshi wear Japanese schoolgirl outfits designed from the 20th century British Royal Nayy uniform?

- See, you've got it backwards. The Brits have always known about the Moon Kingdom, and used the senshi outfits as the basis for their Royal Navy uniform.
  - Wow, that TOTALLY explains why their magic is all randomly in English.
- Just speculation, but I always interpreted that the uniforms were formed after the sensibilities of the wearers; this associated with amnesia that Luna and Artemis seem to suffer concerning the past just caused the uniforms to turn up to be of the school variety. And hey, Tuxedo Kamen; tuxedo wasn't invented before the 19th century, either.

- Nope, it's total Fetish Fuel. Sailor Moon began when manga artist (and physicist PH.D holder) Naoko Takeuchi decided to induldge in her lifelong love of astronomy by creating a manga about "cute girls in outer space". Her editor then suggested that she put all the girls in sailor uniform, and that's how it began. Check Wikipedia. It's referenced.
- A sailor's costume can look like anything, so long as the sailor collar is present. Here's what I make of it: the Sol senshi's costumes look like schoolgirl uniforms because that's what the girls think uniforms should look like. Their costumes during Silver Millennium era probably looked different, but their memories of that time are probably a little fuzzy and so they picture themselves in their 20th century uniforms during flashbacks. The fact that the collars look like collars worn by Earth sailors is simply a coincidence. When people from other planets refer to the girls as "sailor" senshi, it's a form of Translation Convention, or how whatever equivalent of Translator Microbes they have in that universe translates the word to Japanese ears.
  - nope, the flashbacks to the Days of the Silver Millennium showed them in the same uniforms as thier present day incarnations.
  - Already explained as faulty memory filling in the present day uniform for whatever they wore in their past lives. Please either read comments you're replying to, or ask for clarification.
    - That doesn't mesh with the fact that in the anime (and the Manga as well, I believe) they are shown the past by Queen Serenity, whose memory is very much intact since she's pretty much a digitized ghost with apparently enough power to still be able to activate God knows how long after the fall of her kingdom without any bugs or anything. Serenity's little (holographic?) display of the past clearly shows them, except for Usagi who is in royal wear, in the exact same uniforms they wear now.
Why don't the villains simply take them out with firearms?
- It's a magical girl show targeted to Japanese kids under the age of twelve. More pertinently: if magical fire is so gimp in the face of garden-variety fire (see: Eudial), then what's the point?
- Would that even work? I know I'd be hesitant to start shooting at a powerful magical girl if I wasn't certain it would kill her. A Monster Of The Week that'll keep her occupied for a while, but if she turns out to be bulletproof and I'm the one holding the gun, I'm pretty much screwed, aren't I?
- Because they don't have firearms? After all, most of the villains are Sufficiently Advanced Alien invaders, they may simply regard projectile weapons as hopelessly primitive. And in season 3, where the villains come from Earth, Eudial used a flamethrower and actually outmatched Sailor Moon with it -- something the Monsters of the Week never could do, with the exception of the very first one in the season.
  - The monsters were actually from another dimension, possessing humans. But yeah, not only finding firearms is troublesome in Japan, but it can't even be guaranteed that the monsters recognise them as weapons.

Why is it that no one seems to be bothered by the fact that a 14 year old girl is dating a guy who is in his 20s? (At least, in the anime.)
- In the manga he was just two years older than Usagi, so that explains why no one says anything in the manga. But in the anime when they meet her father he immediately disapproves.
  - He's (probably) only five years older in the anime (it's not explicitly stated anywhere, I admit) and in this troper's opinion that's nothing to get paranoid about. By the way, in episode 40 Usagi's father is pretty paranoid about the idea of her dating anyone, so his disapproval probably wasn't anything to do with the age difference.
- Location. Japan's age of consent is 13, with local governments normally making it more 14-17. Its like America's age of consent is 16, but some states are 14 and others are 18. Its conveniantly not mentioned in the original, why go out of the way to point it out in N.A. culture that wouldn't accept it anyway?
- Mamoru's friends were a little astonished, when they met Usagi. And Usagi herself called it inappropriate, when Rei went on a date with Mamoru.

In Sailor Moon S, Haruka and Michiru are looking for the Talismans. In the Marine Cathedral episode, we find out that Setsuna holds one of the Talismans and moreover knows that Haruka and Michiru hold the other two. Instead of letting them go through the mental trauma of knowing they have to kill someone, not to mention the fact that they also die in the process, as well as letting random innocent people get attacked, why didn't she just tell them?
- Because she's a Professor Jerkass
- Sailor Pluto exists outside of conventional time and has an Omniscient Morality License. It's possible that it was a Gambit Roulette on her part to ensure that the Holy Grail would get to Sailor Moon, and not to Uranus and Neptune before they were ready to accept her views on the conflict.
- Luckily, this whole "pure heart crystals" mess doesn't happen in the manga.

More Time Travel paradoxes. I actually gave myself a headache with this one. What would happen if the silver crystal gets destroyed completely and irrevocably before Chibiusa/Rini tries to take it for the first time?
- The Silver Crystal is a Clingy MacGuffin. It got lost and depowered on at least one occasion each, but always returned to Sailor Moon. It's possible that it can't actually be destroyed or even forcibly withdrawn from her.
What exactly is Zirconia, the ugly old insectlike hag and The Dragon of the fourth season? Neither the anime or the manga give a clear explanation about her except that she's somehow a part of Big Bad Queen Queen Nehellenia.
- In the anime, she is basically Nehelenia's real form, but Nehelenia refuses to acknowledge that she looks like an ugly old hag. But she needs a more reliable servant than the Amazoness Quartet to manage things, so she basically sends a split-personality homunculus across the mirror (that, it should be noted, she could cross at anytime if she was willing to admit she'd grown old). When she gains the power to enter the world without aging, she reabsorbs Zirconia and basically ignores that she ever existed (which is perfectly in-character, since Nehelenia is really rather messed up).
- In the manga she's a failed form of chaos just like the other Real Big Bads (Metallia, Wiseman, Pharoh 90)
What ever happened to Queen Beryls crowd of shadowy courtiers?
- Vaporised by Sailor Moon's big ball of pink energy at the end of the first season? The real question would be: Why didn't Beryl sent all of them instead of just the 5 DD girls? (not that they didn't do a good job and killing off the heroines).
- They're court floozies, Beryl likely kept them around to fill up space and have someones to order around and intimidate. My guess is that other than politicking and being eye candy^[1] they have little real combat skill or power, and those that do/did were already used and killed as the Monster of the Week. So by the end of the series they'd have only been good as a Zerg Rush of questionable quality against moon crystal armed Usagi. Plus Beryl likely didn't want to use them that way in favor of personally and privately tormenting Usagi with Brainwashed!Endymon.
- Maybe Beryl used them to fuel Queen Metallia's power while the DD Girls fought.
Why does no one in Tokyo seem to care (or notice, for that matter) that Sailor Moon completely demolished the Starlight Tower?
- Probably because the villains put it there to begin with.
Why does Naoko Takeuchi make such a big deal out of killing off the cats in the manga, and then completely forget about them afterwards? The Senshi (also killed off) are all brought back to life in the end, but the cats are never mentioned again.
- This troper wondered about that too. No real indication that they were even healed after "damage to thier crecent moons" happened. They probably ended up in the same dead character limbo as Usagi's brother did.
Who the HELL is Sailor Cosmos? Is she Usagi's future form (one she takes up after Neo Queen Serenity), a future reincarnation of Usagi, a future descendant?
- Sailor Cosmos is either future Usagi or a later reincarnation.
- Sailor Cosmos is Usagi's future form. In the future, she is fighting Sailor Chaos, and figures it's best to go back in time to defeat Chaos BEFORE she gains her Sailor Senshi form. However, Chaos is NOT destroyed, and can be reborn, which we have to assume is exactly what happened all along. Sailor Cosmos then goes back to the future to fight Sailor Chaos again, which kinda made the whole trip back in time rather pointless.
- It was not pointless. Sailor Cosmos basically wanted to end the world in a slow, peaceful way, instead of struggling for the future. Usagi's example renewed her hope and will to fight.
- It's clearly stated that Sailor Cosmos is an illusionary form of Chibi Chibi.
  - No it wasn't, its the other way around Chibi Chibi is the illusionary form of Sailor Cosmos.

  - This troper thinks that Sailor Cosmos is actually is an ultimate form of Chibi Usa. This actually makes sense because as we know her mother's reign was peaceful. And then Chaos reappeared. After an ages of fighting, Chibiusa/Sailor Cosmos despairs and flees to the past where she meets Sailor Moon. So in a way they both encourage each other. Sailor Moon defeats Chaos. And Sailor Cosmos returns to her time to defeat Chaos there.
- I remember reading something from Naoko about how Sailor Cosmos was the future Sailor Moon. It doesn't really need to be Usagi, just Sailor Moon. Could be that eventually, Usagi's family line morphed from being able to turn into Sailor Moon to being able to turn into Sailor Cosmos. Maybe Sailor Cosmos is a distant descenant of Neo-Queen Serenity?
- We're not supposed to know exactly. Word of God is that the true nature of Sailor Cosmos was left intentionally ambiguous, even to herself.
- My personal theory, regarding how Moon became Cosmos, is that she's taken on the powers of the other senshi. Remember what Cosmos said, that the Cosmos' Crystal's power, Lambda Power, is "all the universe's Sailor Crystals as one"? And that she had lost everyone in the wars? Look at the colors on her skirt; White (Moon), Light Blue (Mercury), Dark Blue (Uranus), Teal (Neptune), Green (Jupiter), Yellow (Venus), Red (Mars), Pink (Chibi-Moon), Purple (Saturn), Black (Pluto). Cosmos may be Usagi!Moon, or may be a further descendant, but it seemed to me that Naoko was implying that their powers had been combined.
WHAT was the point of anime Endymion's stupid plot? He sent himself dreams that Usagi would be hurt if he stayed with her, except future Endymion knew that he was the one who sent those dreams, and that he actually protected Usagi. So what was the point? The series never says it's to toughen Usagi up or to test their love as far as I know, so what the hell was up with that stupid plot?
- Actually, anime future Endymion does state that he sent the dreams to Mamoru to test his love for Usagi, and to test the strength of their relationship.
  - Never mind that that's an incredibly stupid way to go about it.
- And since there's a Guardian of Time, it's clearly possible for the future to be changed (no Stable Time Loop), so that was probably at least a semi-legitimate worry on his part.
  - It's because the director at the time did not like Mamorou and created that subplot to make him (BOTH of him!) look like a jerk.
- The point was to show that they are together not only because of destiny.

On the subject of Mamoru breaking up with Usagi to protect her, why didn't Chibi-Usa vanish out of existence, since she's their daughter and all? Is it because they didn't know it yet? I mean, in something like Back to The Future, Marty and his siblings vanish piece by piece according to his photograph of themselves when he accidentally gets Lorraine, his future mother, to fall for him instead of George, his future father.
- I want to say it's because the ultimately got back together in the end, but given how she faded out of existence in the early part of Stars, that kind of shoots that theory to hell.
During the Makaiju arc, why didn't Eiru and An stay a couple when disguised as humans instead of pretending to be siblings?
- Because people like incest?
- Possibly because a teenage couple living alone might raise eyebrows but siblings aren't so bad. I'd guess SM Japan has really lax housing laws, since both the aliens and Makoto (and Mamoru in the manga) are all under twenty (the age of majority in Japan) and live alone.
  - If the Warriors of Legend book is accurate, teenagers often do live alone in Japan because their schools are far away and it's cheaper for kids to live alone than with the whole family.
This troper is just watching now and is almost done with the first season, but found something that just bugs her. In the beginning when Jadeite was trying to get energy to restore their queen, why did he continue to set up operations in Tokyo? Clearly they're going to be stopped by the senshi if they're set there, and there are stupid people they can use outside of Japan. Is there any reason for this other than the fact that Tokyo is the center of the universe?
- No
- Because he may have been looking for the Silver Crystal and thought that the place where the Senshi are would be the most likely place to find it. In the Japanese version, I think Beryl asks for the Silver Crystal first, but then she decides that getting people's energy is a better temporary solution (since it's already there). And possibly because the Senshi might follow him even if he went to another country (especially if Sailor V was still in England at the time the series started).
- Consider how many astronomical bodies can have Senshi and how many moons and trans-Neptunian dwarf planets we have in our Solar System. If they had gone to say... New York City instead of Tokyo, they probably would have just triggered the awakening of Sailor Charon, Sailor Callisto, Sailor Titan, Sailor Miranda, and Sailor Nereid to fight them.
- According to the manga, each Shitennou had an area of activities: Europe for Zoisite, North America for Nephrite, Middle East for Kunzite and Far East (that include Japan) for Jadeite. My theory is that in the anime it started that way, and that Nephrite moving to Tokyo was due to both the need to deal with the Sailor Senshi and Japan being the easier target (Europe having the far more experienced Sailor V kicking the life out of youmas, Middle East being filled with illegal guns and one of the best intelligence services in the world and North America including a country where civilians are often allowed to own military-issue personal weapons, automatic weapons and even flamethrowers, while Tokyo had much less weapons capable to harm a youma, less invadent governements than the rest of Far East and less experiences Sailor Senshi). Then, around the time Zoisite retreated from Europe, either Beryl or Nephrite found out hints about the Rainbow Crystals (the key to recover the Silver Crystal) being all in Tokyo, hence all the activities moving there in a desperate attempt to recover the Silver Crystal and kill Sailor Moon's group before the Princess was awakened and/or Sailor Venus moved back there. Too bad that Venus moved back in Japan at least a couple days before they managed to trap Sailor Moon and get Tuxedo Kamen's Rainbow Crystal and that the very act of summoning the Silver Crystal would awaken the Princess and give her the Crystal...
Why would anyone believe Sailor Venus would be the Moon princess?
- From what I recall when Sailor Venus was pretending to be the Moon Princess, she was still using her Sailor V idenity which seems to be designed to make her appear associated with the moon. For instance her By the Power of Greyskull was "Moon Power Transform" and she even has a crecent moon on her forehead. In other words when they thought she was the Moon Princess they didn't know she was Sailor Venus.
How could Chibiusa not realise Usagi was her mother? Usagi and her mother look exactly the same and have the same name.
- I figure part of it was psychological - she saw her mother as a Queen, usually in formal wear and being regal, while Usagi was not much older than her and a complete ditz. Plus, apparently a thin golden band is a sufficient disguise in the universe, at least in the anime. In the manga Chibiusa knew from the start.
  - I seem to remember the anime flipping back and forth on whether she knew who Usagi really was. Early on in the season she at least knew that Usagi had the crystal - the first few episodes had her ransacking Usagi's room and coming up with various plans to steal it. Then later on she witnesses the senshi transforming and is for some reason completely surprised.

Is not as profound as other topics here but it just bugs me the fact that the Shitennou only represents Far-East(Jadeite), North America (Nephrite), Europe (Zoisite) and Middle East (Kunzite). I mean, who was in charge of Africa, Australia, South America or Antartica? No one?
- My guess is that Endymion's kingdom didn't actually encompass the entire Earth.
- Fridge Logic to the original answer: His Kingdom is only the Northern Hemisphere. Hence the Shitennou.
- Maybe Far East, North America, Europe and Middle East were their primary hunting grounds as members of the Dark Kingdom (saying primary because the Codename: Sailor V manga shows a subordinate of Kunzite working in Tokyo itself, with a side-activity in Honolulu).
How come (in the anime at least) Chad/Yūichirō sleeps on the temple steps? That doesn't look remotely comfortable.
- Yuichirou falls in love at first sight with Rei and decides to sleep on the steps so that next day he can ask for a job at the shrine. (Presumably his previous address is too far away to get back in one day and he just doesn't want to delay.) He doesn't sleep on the steps again after that first night.
Sailor Moon's attack upgrade from Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss to Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss in Stars bugs me. Yeah, yeah, there's always a midseason powerup, but the excuse for this one is just stupid. The monsters hadn't gotten tough enough that her old attacks didn't work on them or anything like that, there wasn't even a hint that Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss wouldn't go on working just as well at purifying phages as it had all season, she just accidentally dropped the Eternal Tiare, was blocked from picking it back up, and bam! upgrade. If they'd waited even just one episode and worked out a way for it to happen on the plane it would have made a lot more sense, since she was actually in a really tight spot then.
- It makes more sense in the manga, really, her original staff gets destroyed by either the Evil Senshi, or Galaxia, then it gets upgraded by Chibichibi.

It's a petty thing to be bugged about, but when the girls transform we get a close-up of their hands, and their fingernails are magically painted. This is all fine and dandy until you remember that all of the scouts wear gloves.
- Whoever designed the transformation was obviously Crazy Prepared regarding making sure that they would always be elegant looking, no matter what.
- According to The Materials Collection, it's hinted that certain powers/attacks(i.e. Shabon Spray, Fire Soul) comes from their magically painted nails(gloves or not).
This may seem a bit stupid about getting upset over, but in one SuperS episode, Mako waits outside all night for Tiger's eye to come back because she thinks he is her prince, but it's just that. She does nothing for almost 12 hours, then when her friends come to her, it's all fine and dainty. Like, she didn't get hungry? Or need to use the bathroom? That bugs me. And also, Usagi was talking on the phone with someone, and they where at Mako's house, EVEN though she is an orphan and even mentions that. Who the heck was that? It's a little issue, but it bugs me hugely!
- Seems rational an orphan would like friends being around.
About the senshi's powers, when they get upgrades, do they lose their previous abilities in exchange for the new ones, or do they get to keep the previous powers? An episode in the R season suggests the latter. On the other hand, Moon's previous abilities seem to disappear everytime she gets a new wand.
- Yes, they keep their old powers but since they're usually less powerful or ineffective (and less flashy), they aren't used much. Sailor Moon's previous abilities do disappear when she gets a new wand but she can still use her tiara attack.
- Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury all use their R attacks right after being upgraded to Super forms. Sailor Moon later uses Moon Tiara Action in Sailor Stars, despite not even having a tiara anymore! She uses a frozen pizza.
- Venus' love me chain wasn't always used as an attack either, as it has been used more then once to rescue people from falling into ravines/bottomless pits.

Why exactly did Luna dismiss the idea of Princess Diamond being the Moon Princess based on the fact that Princess Diamond wasn't expecting a talking cat? It might make sense if one could reasonably assume that the Moon Princess would be prepared for all of this but Usagi was just as astonished when she met Luna. What criteria was Luna using to decide whether or not someone was the Moon Princess?
- In the first episode, I believe Luna was looking for Sailor Moon, not the Moon Princess.
  - Luna was looking for Sailor Moon, but the point is that both Princess Diamond and Usagi were just as shocked at seeing a talking cat and Luna for some reason decided that in Princess Diamond's case this meant she couldn't be the Moon Princess.
    - It makes the whole difference. Luna didn't say anything about Ami, Rei and Makoto being surprised, and seemed at most irritated at Usagi's shock, which makes me think she was prepared for the Senshi to not remember her. Along with the below point about the matureness, I got the feeling that Luna expected the Moon Princess to instantly recognize her.
- I think this ties in with Luna generally expecting the moon princess to be more mature. Consider how often she's shocked and dismayed by Usagi's un-princesslike behavior.
  - Luna said the Moon Princess would be expecting her. Which is true enough because by the time Usagi transformed into Princess Serenity she knew who Luna was.

- Magic.
  - Not a valid answer. The Sailor Senshi's powers are fairly specific. I doubt they can do that.
    - Sure they can. Disguise pens to get into registar buildings for legal documentation and the Mercury Computer to produce the relevant documents, both of which are "magic". Money stolen untraceably from criminal organizations via the Mercury Computer and/or provided by Pluto and/or paid for by Sailor V merchendizing royalties.
      - Hey, if Ali and En can pull it off, why not? And they're just kids.
When Mimete was trapped in Eudial's machine, did Usagi and company destroy it as a Mercy Kill, since she was trapped in there forever?
Why doesn't Queen Beryl/Metaria recognize Usagi as Princess Serenity immediately? It's not like their memories have been sealed. Shouldn't they at least suspect it, after seeing her heal an entire city instantaneously? I know it's been some thousand years, but it's not like they've been doing a heckuva lot, and her powers aren't exactly a dime a dozen. Also, by looks, you'd think she'd recognize the person who drove her to madness/evil, in the case of Beryl...
- Princess Serenity was never a Senshi in her past life, and it's likely that she didn't use those healing powers at the time. That could be what was throwing the villains off. That, and the fact that Usagi, well, acts nothing like a princess.
- Besides, Beryl never really saw Usagi as Usagi -- or, for that matter, any of the Senshi in their reincarnated civilian forms. If she did, she'd probably connect the dots. As for why Endymion simply didn't tell her, well... um... we'll get back to you. While we're at it, why doesn't anyone in the Dark Kingdom suspect Sailor Moon is the princess? Considering there was no Sailor Moon in the Silver Millennium in the first place, and this identity was only created in the present day?
The episode where Jupiter kills a Daimon on her own. Okay the first episode of S, Moon's Scepter didn't even phase the very first Daimon the Sailors fought which was most likely one of the weakest Daimon's they fought. Although Jupiter was using her most powerful attack surely it was around the same power level if not weaker than Moon's scepter since it was obtained around the same time (in the R season) so how could Jupiter kill a Daimon monster that was likely stronger than the Daimon Sailor Moon couldn't even touch in the first episode?
- If we're thinking of the same episode (because there are actually two where Jupiter kills a monster), I think it may have been because of her will and desire to strengthen herself.
So in the Infinity Arc in the manga, the second half focused mostly on how Saturn's mere presence signaled the end of the world. With that comes many fights over whether or not it is right to kill Hotaru and subsequently seal Saturn away forever in order to prevent the destruction of the planet. So after the build-up, Saturn eventually awakens, begins to cause destruction, Sailor Moon fortunately unleashed power earlier that would ensure rebirth, and Saturn is reborn as Hotaru as an infant. Okay, that's all good. But why is it that in the next arc, when the Senshi gain new powers, no one is concerned that Saturn is present once more? Yes, she did tell the Outer Senshi "we're different now" and that their mission has changed, but they seem to take her word a little too well given the dramatic buildup from before.
- Considering how it worked out the first time, it's not unreal to think they'd take it a little better when they knew they'd survive her the second time.
When Sailor Moon finds out the day's monster stole a boyfriend from Sailor Venus, she is fully in the mindset of not saving her/letting her die.
- This is the same episode where Minako, upon learning that said boyfriend and said friend were truly in love with each other, faked her own death instead of just breaking up with the guy and going home. Yes, teenagers can be dramatic, but wouldn't it have been more work to keep up the "I'm dead!" charade? So yea, I don't think anyone was in their right mind that episode.
When Ali and En's home is demolished, did it just happen that EVERYONE else in the building happened to be out? Or did the few hundred people get vaporized?
- I always thought the building was really abandoned and they'd created the apartment as a cover. Since nobody would be visiting anyone else in the building, it's not like the main characters would suspect anything. That or Implied Endor Holocaust.
What's up with the HUGE Idiot Ball everybody is holding during the Kunzite-part in the first season? Gee, I wonder if there's a connection between the villain trying to kill Sailor Moon and all those random princess seminars/contests popping up that always end disastrous! In one particular case, it even was called "Moon Princess" seminar. Suspicious, much?! It doesn't necessarily have to mean anything, but honestly, the term isn't all that common, it should have rang a bell. Kunzite being Dangerously Genre Savvy is one thing, but it's quite jarring to see all of them, not just Usagi who "is exactly the type of girl who'd fall for it", walk into such obvious traps.
- Maybe Minako knew but played along to train Usagi and the others.
- This isn't the only question. Assuming that the senshi have some ability to keep their enemies from recognizing their civilian forms, why didn't Kunzite notice that the same girls appear at these contests would appear shortly before the senshi appear?
What was the point of returning Hotaru to her father, only to take her away later? (From the standpoint of the writers.) Did they not know what would happen? It seems kind of cruel, and it's not really mentioned again later on.
- The in-universe reason is that the Sailors are not omniscient, not even Pluto. They gave baby Hotaru to her father to give them a chance at a normal life, one where Hotaru would no longer be tainted by her possession by Mistress 9. It's not their fault they eventually failed (a whole season later, at that). The out-of-universe reason is that Professor Tomoe died in the manga but survived in the anime. The anime writers didn't know Naoko had other plans for Hotaru in a later arc. The Nehelennia filler arc in the anime was inserted partly to age her back into the main cast.
How does Tuxedo Mask get to the fight scene in time? The Sailors themselves always just happen to be there by accident, but Mamoru can be at a completely random location at that time.
- In the anime, before he realized he was Tuxedo Mask, he would go into a trance whenever Sailor Moon transformed. Afterward, I'm guessing he just has a sixth sense about protecting Usagi, so he probably has a backup plan to get to her quickly. Also, while brainwashed by the Dark Kingdom he showed an ability to teleport. And on top of that, he's showed flight in a few episodes.
This one has probably been analyzed to hell and back, but... Why is Pluto linked with time and Saturn with death? Wouldn't it make more sense the other way round?
- It has, in fact, been analyzed to hell and back.^{[dead link]} The main point is that Sailor Moon draws from more than just Greek/Roman mythology.

How come that Queen Beryl immediately recognized Tuxedo Mask aka Mamoru aka Darien as Prince Endymion but she didn't recognize Sailor moon aka Usagi aka Serena as the moon princess?
- Tuxedo Mask isn't a proper Senshi. Presumably he lacks whatever disguise magic they have, and uses the mask to compensate.
  - Plus she was in love with him. As evidenced in the series, love is a very powerful thing.
- Beryl knew Prince Endymion very well, but she saw Princess Serenity only once.

Why Mamoru is so dense? During his every fight with Zoicite, Zoicite is cheating. And suddenly Zoisite is offering him "fair and square" fight for the crystals. Mamoru agrees, gives the crystals, finds out Zoisite was cheating all the time. FEW MINUTES later, Zoisite offers another fair fight and Mamoru agrees without hesitation! Didn't he have enough time to learn that he should not trust Zoicite?
- In both cases he was concerned about Usagi's safety. Perhaps it was a "I have no choice" situation.

In an episode of Sailor Moon R Ami noticed that Ail showed up at roughly the same time as the Moonlight Knight. How does it not occur to her that he and his sister showed up at roughly the same time as two aliens (one male and one female) did? Is she really the smart one?

In the anime, a big deal is made of the fact that Chibi-Chibi looks just like Usagi. Not her sister, but rather her daughter or even closer. Well, in the manga, it makes sense for them to look similar. In the anime... it doesn't.
