Sailor Moon/Heartwarming

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Sailor Moon is rife with these moments.

General

  • Usagi is a thirteen-year old girl, who is constantly late to school, tripping over things, and failing her classes. Yet she becomes the hero of the story, because of her big heart. That's a lot for a young girl to hear, that your kindness makes you a hero.
  • Almost every Chibi-Usa and Hotaru interaction is a CMOH. The Soldier of Destruction develops a bond with the heir to the Moon Kingdom, and it ends up saving both their lives.
  • Almost any scene where Usagi and Chibiusa don't fight and get along is a minor Heartwarming Moment.

Manga

  • After her first attempts at fighting a youma go sour, it's serious when Usagi learns that her new friend Ami is walking into a youma trap. She decides to go rescue Ami, with no hesitation.
  • Who ends up snapping Black Lady out of her brainwashing? Not Sailor Moon or Tuxedo Kamen, who has been brainwashed again. Sailor Pluto does it, by giving up her life to stop Dimande from causing an apocalypse. Black Lady stops in her tracks, cries for her friend, and reverts back to being Chibi-Usa.

Classic Series

  • Usagi is running late to school. Then she sees some kids picking on a cat, and shoos them away. She then checks on the cat, and notices it's trying to get a bandage off its forehead. Usagi carefully removes the bandage, revealing a crescent moon. It shows how kind she is.
  • Luna takes the time to thank Usagi for removing the bandage from her forehead, while introducing herself. If the crescent moon is covered, she can't talk.
  • Nephrite and Naru's final moments go between this and Tear Jerker.
  • Yuuichirou defending Rei from a youma. "If it's for you, Miss Rei, I wouldn't mind dying!"
  • The four inner senshi's spirits comforting a defeated Usagi after all dying for her. "Cheer up..."
  • Sailor Moon successfully is able to de-brainwash Tuxedo Kamen and their touching last moments.
  • All of the Sailor Senshi's spirits come together and give Sailor Moon the courage to finally defeat Queen Beryl once and for all.

The R season

Black Moon

  • The scene at the end of Chibiusa's debut episode, as Usagi tucks her into bed. Usagi recognises that she's been through tough times just like her and says that, "If only you'd told me everything up front, I could have helped you." It speaks a lot to Usagi's compassion that no matter how much she had irritated her by invading her life Dawn Summers-style, she never would have hesitated to protect her.
  • Ami's third focus episode, in which she refuses to believe that her friends would ever turn against her.
  • Usagi and Mamoru finally getting back together.
  • Saphir's death at Wiseman's hands...actually, heck, almost all of episode 86 had Heartwarming, Heroic Sacrifice and Tear Jerker moments in spades. This troper admits that (besides crying every time while watching it) she has never before been so disappointed by a character death OR the death of a wonderful pairing-to-be. Saphir/Petz was not only implied...it was pretty much downright stated before Saphir was killed
  • Naru talking to Usagi one last time before getting Brother Chuck'd, implying that she's know her friends secret the whole time. She asks Usagi to be careful when investigating that "black thing" in the center of the city. Usagi tries to play dumb, but Naru cheerfully says that they'll talk in school the next day, and she expects to see Usagi there.
  • The Senshi enter the crystal using a Teleportation. Within seconds, a trapdoor opens up under Sailor Moon, delivering her to a chamber where Dimande is waiting. He attempts to hypnotize her into loving him, twice. The first time, she starts crying and whispers, "Mamo-chan" which is enough for him to lose his concentration. As he floods her mind the second time, she starts seeing her friends call out for her. It ends with Naru saying, "See you in school tomorrow!" Usagi's memories of her friends, not her lover, broke the Third Eye's spell.
  • How Sailor Moon snaps Dimande out of serving Wiseman: she brings up Dimande. She asks if his brother died for nothing, when he gave his life to warn the Black Moon about Wiseman.
  • Prince Dimande's Heroic Sacrifice by Taking the Bullet for Sailor Moon.
  • Sailor Moon becomes Neo-Queen Serenity to talk down Black Lady. She brings up the memory of Chibi-Usa tripping while chasing a frog, that Wiseman used to corrupt Chibi-Usa. We see the full context: the queen and king were stern, but kind, encouraging Chibi-Usa to stand up and bring herself to her feet. It ends with Neo-Queen Serenity kneeling and opening her arms, silently urging Chibi-Usa to get up and come to her for a hug.
  • The final episode and this exchange between Usagi and Chibi-Usa, as Chibi-Usa prepares to return to Crystal Tokyo, restored to its former glory.

Chibi-Usa: Thanks for everything, Mom.

The R movie

  • The story implies that Fiore was one of the Makaiju Tree's children. Remember that the tree said all her children were wiped out by hate, leaving Ail and An as the only survivors. Turns out she was wrong; Fiore survived by some miracle and didn't learn the hate that destroyed his siblings.
  • Fiore and Mamoru's brief friendship, when the former was an orphan and the latter was recovering in the hospital from the car crash that killed his parents. As Fiore explained, the atmosphere on Earth was too toxic for him to stay, so he left. Mamoru gave him a flower as a parting gift, while crying. This little gesture made Fiore promise he would find the perfect flower in the galaxy to bring to Mamoru.
  • There are a few times when Fiore stands down while attacking the Senshi, when Mamoru tries to reason with him. He seems almost willing to at least hear them out; if only that Kisenian Flower weren't attached to him.
  • When the girls arrive on the asteroid, they see Mamoru in the healing crystal at a distance. Remembering what happened last time enemies held Mamoru hostage back with the Dark Kingdom, Makoto warns Usagi that it could be another trap. Sailor Moon actually pauses, remembering the DD Girls electrocuted Mako using illusions of Mamoru and Motoki to make the girls lower their guard. Fiore appears, reassuring them that he has no plans to use Mamoru as bait in crushing his enemies. He keeps his word, and Mamoru stays out of the subsequent fight. Until Mamoru breaks free, that is.
  • The entire last ten minutes go back and forth between this, Crowning Moment of Awesome, and Tear Jerker. To elaborate...
    • When Tuxedo Kamen tosses a rose at Fiore, piercing him in the heart, it kills all the youma flowers on the planet and depowers Fiore. Fiore refuses to attack Mamoru, despite being shocked. When Ami notes the youma are dead, Mars cheers briefly, thinking the battle is over.
    • Usagi, despite being heavily drained of energy to the point of death, makes herself stand and summons the power of the Silver Crystal, to redirect the asteroid before it can collide with Earth. She reassures her panicking friends that she won't die while using it. Remember that at this point, Usagi has already died once or twice using the crystal's full power to grant her dearest wish, depending on when the Black Moon invasion happened.
    • Remember that flashback with the flower? We get Once More, with Clarity; a young Usagi heard Mamoru crying in his hospital room. She was visiting the hospital because her mother had just given birth to Shingo. When Mamoru explained that his best friend was leaving forever, Usagi kindly gave him a flower from the bouquet she was delivering to her mother, the same rose that Mamoru would give to Fiore. In canon, it makes complete sense that she would forget this since she was a little kid and Mamoru became a bit more of a jerk when he was older, but Usagi and Mamoru were always meant to have an emotional connection. Fiore gets a Heel Realization that he wanted to kill the "girl" that indirectly gave him a flower. That gives him enough Heroic Willpower to destroy the Kisenian Flower and her hold over him, as he cries Tears of Remorse and fades away.
    • The Senshi and Tuxedo Kamen know that Sailor Moon will likely die while using the power of the Silver Crystal. They lend their power to help her, while all being beaten down from fighting Fiore, to at least give her a chance of survival. Each Guardian flashes back to how Usagi made them feel less alone, and voew to protect her. Sailor Moon redirects the asteroid with their help, chanting that no one is alone, but the flower form of the Silver Crystal shatters and she collapses.
    • As Sailor Moon lies prone on the asteroid, Rei is the one begging her Please Wake Up with tears in her eyes, shaking her friend. All the Senshi implore Usagi to open her eyes, for someone to save their friend, "what was most important to us". That person ends up being Fiore. He thanks Mamoru for saving him again, and Sailor Moon saving him as well, saying he can finally fulfill his promise of delivering the perfect flower. Fiore gives up his power and reverts to child-form to revive her, in the form of "The flower of life" derived from his energy. Mamoru drinks the nectar and transfers it to Usagi by kissing her, restoring the shattered Silver Crystal. Fiore leaves in peace, to find a new home among the stars.
    • Everyone cries Tears of Joy when Usagi revives in Mamoru's arms, and says, "You see? I promise I'd protect you all, no matter what." Rei is the first to hug her, while the others follow and fawn over her. That's where the movie ends, as flower petals swirl in space. We don't need to see them return to Earth, knowing they'll be okay.

S

  • It is exam season, and the girls start having group study sessions. These moments allow for some of the best camaraderie between the girls.
  • Usagi is struggling in the first episode with school, as usual. Rei notices, after she received a troubling vision about a strange disaster called the Silence. She reassures Usagi that her kindness and cheerful spirit is what makes her strong. It becomes a Tear Jerker when the daimon succeeds in pinning Rei to a tree while incapacitating most of the Senshi, and forcing them to watch as it removes Rei's heart. Usagi begs Rei Please Wake Up, fearing that she's dead.
  • Haruka offers Usagi a ride home after she missed the bus from the motorbike races, and the next one isn't several hours. When rival bikers chase them, Haruka focuses on keeping Usagi safe, hiding with her in the woods.

Super S

    • Chibi-usa and Helios' developing romance in Super S is also very heartwarming. Especially the scene where Helios tries to leave out of fear of endangering her, and she holds onto him, refusing to let him disappear. Her absolutely heartbroken look and her crying pushes this into major Tear Jerker territory as well.

Chibi-usa: You said you needed me! You said you needed the power of my dreams! I won't ever let you go!

Stars

Nehellenia's Castle

  • Michiru, to Haruka: "You have beautiful hands!"
  • Usagi is celebrating that she got into high school with her friends. She was worried with her poor grades and study habits that she wouldn't be able to pass the exams. That she did shows great Character Development.
  • A girl comes to Usagi and confesses that she has a crush on her. Usagi lets her down gently, explaining that she already has a boyfriend. But Usagi says that she knows the right person is out there for this girl, because she is wonderful.
  • The very end of the Nehellenia arc where everything has returned to normal for her and she's reverted back to a child. She's about to go to bed when she turns around and quietly asks her servants, "Will someone please read me a bedtime story?" Then one of the unseen servants says, "Yes, it would be my pleasure."

Galaxia and Chaos

  • Seiya develops a crush on Usagi, after attending school with her. When he realizes that Usagi is oblivious to his feelings while fretting about Mamoru, Seiya accepts it with a few moments of weakness here and there.
  • Minako and Yaten's conversation in the backstage of the Idol Singer contest. Yaten tries to reprehend Minako for getting herself in when she should be only fighting for the universe, but Minako turns the tables on him and says that even when she wants to save the world, she should not forget her own dreams in the process. Way to go, Mina-P!
  • Sailor Moon's healing attack manages to heal part of Sailor Tin Nyanko. She starts warring with herself, confirming that the Animamates are Brainwashed and Crazy. Sailor Moon is horrified when Galaxia appears and executes Tin Nyanjo for remembering who she used to be.
  • The very last episode of Sailor Stars. Specifically, the scene where Usagi, having defeated the Chaos, is floating in the skies, alone. She starts crying because she is lonely without her Nakama who were all killed by Galaxia... and suddenly, a familiar voice tells her that she is not alone... Then, after all the senshi reappeared, somebody calls out "Usako...". Usagi's reaction to Mamoru's voice and her flying into his arms, in tears...
  • The Starlights leave Earth, as Seiya says farewell to Usagi, now that they have their princess and leader restored. He smiles as she says that he's a great friend. It's all but implied that the Starlights will come back to visit, this time with no enemy in sight.
