- Only Moment of Funny in an otherwise tragic war film: the scene where Guy tries to catch a goat to milk so the baby won't starve. Ends up falling on his ass, much to the amusement of the previously aloof Vera.

- Complete Monster: Goran, who hacks the finger off a dying woman to steal her ring, casually quipping, "She's just an old, Muslim bitch. Let her bleed to death." After encountering Vera, kicks her in the stomach to induce premature labor, and readies his gun to "splatter that Muslim bastard's brains the second he comes out"
- Moral Event Horizon: When Goran was about to shoot the child as it was being born, Guy decided he'd had enough of this sadist.
- Unfortunate Implications: Being one of the few war movies about the war in Bosnia that isn't shy about depicting how all sides commited atrocities and how none of them was any better or worse than the other, and to make matters even "worse" the protagonist was fighting for the Serbs, some viewers might criticize the movie for downplaying Serb warcrimes. But then again a good part of these complains tend to come from people feeling offended whenever the other side isn't depicted as genocidal savages.
