Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Critical Research Failure: Pterodactyls are dinosaurs, but they don't leave behind scales.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse:
    • The Tar Monster and the 10,000 Volt Ghost are considered the most horrifying monsters.
    • James Gunn considers Captain Cutler to be this.
  • Ham and Cheese: Peter Boyle, Seth Green and Tim Blake Nelson sure had some fun in the movie.
  • Memetic Mutation: Fans take pictures of the Tar Monster and caption them with "We are Venom".
  • Non Sequitur Scene: Subverted with the potions scene. Although it's quite over the top with how zany it is, and the various transformations Scooby and Shaggy go through are never brought up again, it does lead to Velma, Fred, and Daphne discovering that Shaggy and Scooby lied about Scooby contacting rabies so they could sneak out and go to the Faux Ghost. Also, the explosion caused by buff Shaggy throwing a highly combustible potion leads to the gang discovering the Monster Hive.
  • Obvious Judas: It's quite predictable that Alicia Silverstone's character was the villain. For example, her acting is more dull than the others.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The Cotton Candy Glob is hard to ignore, since he was eaten by Shaggy and Scooby so quickly.
  • Sequelitis: Many critics at the time of its release considered it inferior to the 2002 film.
  • Signature Line: "I think Coolsville sucks!"
  • So Bad It's Good: It's not that good, but it's a good kind of bad.
  • Squick: Scooby flirts with Aggie Wilkins in his disco disguise.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Many Scooby-Doo fans consider it better than the 2002 film because it is more true to the cartoons.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: As with the first film, Matthew Lillard did a convincingly great job as Shaggy.
