Shadow of the Gods

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

A role-playing thread [dead link] started in 2008 on the Furry to Furry forums. It has survived and is still going now, centering around the story of a group of humans discovering they have superpowers and alternate forms to go with them. (Typically these alternate forms are anthropomorphic animals.)

As time has gone on only a few of the original starting group still remain, others either dropping out or simply just not having the time needed, but the influx of new characters looks promising...

Tropes used in Shadow of the Gods include:
  • Aliens Are Bastards: Titan and Gia's kind were wiped out by them and now they're coming to Earth to finish the job. Wiping out Humans along with them is just a side effect, and they don't seem to care.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The group is called in to fight a giant sea monster in Boston.
  • Bad Future: What Templar shows Larry during the "Awakening" event.
  • Berserk Button: There are plenty of buttons not to push around a few of the characters. Ironically Kailex and Michael have the same one; loved ones being hurt.
  • Captain Ersatz: Several characters being used recently for the coming plot feature abilities that are quite clearly taken from In Famous, Prototype and Crysis respectively. Their backgrounds and how their powers integrate with them are original however.
  • Code Name: A few of the characters now have settled code names to protect their human identities.
    • Michael is Sparky.
    • Larry is Morph.
    • Kailex is Blacklight.
    • Ashley is Templar.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The crew has plenty of moments showing the world that they're here to help.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The "interfacing" scene with Alluria and Michael.
  • Dysfunction Junction: The crew. Period.
  • Enemy Without: Happens to the whole group of the time when Titan catches them in one of his many traps.
  • The End of the World as We Know It: What'll happen if they don't get strong.
  • Fantastic Racism: Not only are they stinking superpowered freaks but they're goddamn furry too? We must protect human purity! And totally ignore that they're trying to save us!
  • Future Badass: A few of the characters get a glimpse of their potential thanks to Templar. Templar herself is a notable example in the story, turning from Moe to a Determinator of the enth degree.
  • Gambit Pileup: Titan and Gia's plans. They have connections everywhere and their plans are barely understood completely, neither can anyone really guess what their true motives are.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Ashley? Pure white feathered wings. Kailex? Black scaled demonic wings.
    • Templar also has the angel wings, but she's not exactly an angel.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Multiple cases.
  • Saving the World: Kinda the whole point of the characters discovering their powers and training to get stronger. Turns out there's an alien armada coming to earth, and they're pissed.
  • Superpower Meltdown: A crazy Animus - a badger with a melting nuclear core - tries to blow up the White House and nearly suceeds. He does explode, but Kailex manages to carry him up into the earth's atmosphere high enough to avoid serious damage.
