Sheroes Central

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Sheroes Central is a forum aimed at teens and young adults for discussing such topics as feminism, female role models, current events, entertainment, faith, culture, and... well, pretty much everything else. Many of the participants were brought together by the works of Tamora Pierce and/or Meg Cabot, who have both endorsed and promoted the forum.

Sheroes is notable for being a true "safe place," where the tone is warm and inviting and everyone is welcome. In many ways, it functions as a support group for its members, and provides assistance for all kinds of problems, from homework and jerky coworkers to more serious issues such as eating disorders and self-harm. It's not all serious, though--general silliness is welcome in the appropriate areas, and "niceness threads" are guaranteed to brighten your day.

The forum can be found here.

Tropes used in Sheroes Central include:
  • Adorkable: Plenty of the actors/various other famous people posted in "sexy threads." Also, some of the Sheroes themselves.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Any of the various "niceness threads."
  • Fan Service: "Sexy threads," where anyone who chooses to can post pictures of their favorite actors, singers, fictional characters, writers, and whoever else they think is sexy.
  • Geek, Nerd: Most of the Sheroes self-identify as some shade of geek or nerd.
  • Genius Bruiser: Any of the Sheroes who participate in martial arts or contact sports such as rugby.
  • No Periods, Period: Averted. Newer members might be slightly shocked by the unabashed discussion of menstruation, birth control, etc.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Cheeseflux. Though this term isn't really in widespread use anymore.
