Shizuko wa Ore no Yome (シズコはオレのヨメ, "Shizuko Is My Bride") is a Japanese supernatural romance/comedy manga written and drawn by Kirioka Sana (桐丘さな, also the author of the slightly more well-known Taishou Otome Otogibanashi).

1000 years ago in the Heian Period, the human Princess Shizu and the oni Shuri (also known as Benkei) fell in love and married. When the princess died young, the oni turned to stone in his grief.

1000 years later in the modern day we meet high school girl Shizuko. On her 16th birthday, when she is old enough to marry, she is accosted by Shuri who has awakened from the stone and now claims to be her husband. It turns out that Shizuko is the reincarnation of Princess Shizu. Shizuko is overwhelmed and weirded out by all this. Shuri, meanwhile, declares his everlasting love for Shizuko and resolves to do everything in his power to make her love him again like she did in her past life.

Expect a sweet, heartwarming story of love and silliness.

Shizuko wa Ore no Yome was published from 2014 to 2015. It consists of 12 chapters collected in 3 volumes.

Tropes used in Shizuko wa Ore no Yome include:
  • Badass Grandpa: Shizuko's grandfather, Mishirazu Yoritomo. He's a mortal man and has no magical powers unlike Shuri, but he is very strong and fit for a 70-year-old and is an 8th dan kendo master.
  • Bishounen: Usawaka. He is drawn very feminine, talks almost like a woman and calls himself "the most beautiful male in Japan".
  • Easily Forgiven: Shizuko is surprisingly friendly towards Usawaka despite his attempts to murder her.
  • Genki Guy: Shuri is like this in the beginning, being always very cheerful and energetic. In later chapters we see his angry and frustrated sides more.
  • Heel Face Turn: Usawaka; with the turning point being chapter 9.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Usawaka tries repeatedly to kill Shizuko. His plots tend to fail ignominiously.
  • Only Sane Man: Shizuko is a fairly normal and reasonable girl surrounded by silly weirdos.
  • Reincarnation Romance: The core premise - albeit a one-sided variant. Shizu dies and is reborn as Shizuko, but Shuri is still the same, being a long-lived oni.
  • Tear Jerker: Several heartbreaking flashbacks to the time of Shizu's death and a grief-stricken Shuri.
  • Unrequited Love: Shuri and Shizuko, at first.
  • Unwanted Spouse: Shuri sees himself as Shizuko's husband. Shizuko does not agree, and is less than thrilled to have him clinging to her. At least at first.
  • Woobie: Shuri during the sad flashbacks to Shizu's death.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Shizu.
